'Stand Your Ground' hearing could potentially clear Zimmerman in Trayvon Martin shooting

And in Zimmerman’s case we have that evidence?
In the Zimmerman case, we have the evidence of a fight.
We have witness testimony to it, and we have the injuries that Zimmerman received to support the testimony of the witness.

We also have a body. This ended the fight.

The hypothetical scenario you came up with lacks the witness and it also lacks the body.
Injuries in and of themselves do not say much.
But these injuries when combined with the witness testimony say a lot.

Wow!

Nothing fits other than a first degree murder charge.

However, if the system promotes vigilantism, then I don’t see how there can ever be justice other than vigilante justice.
Only if you don’t know what first degree murder is.

I’ll take vigilante justice over no justice any day.

Mark O’Mara now backing down from SYG saying: “The facts don’t seem to support a `stand your ground’ defense,” and would rather go in for traditional self defense.

“I don’t’ like ‘stand your ground’ because I’m not sure it’s a `stand your ground’ case,” O’Mara said.

From what those folks were discussing, seems like there would be no more pretrial, but rather a trial.

I’m sure the other factor has to do with the judge. SYG is only heard by the judge and O’Mara believes the judge is biased. Better chances going before a jury than to waste time with a SYG defense you expect to loose with a “biased” judge.

this whole case is a perversion of justice and of the law as it is written.

I don’t mine if the judge is changed. He is the second judge so far and in other cases, there have been multiple judges.

He did nothing other than calling a liar a liar.

I don’t care one way or the other. 🤷 But the judge isn’t budging and getting him removed would require an act of God.

I wouldn’t want to try the SYG route either if I thought it would be a loosing battle. Better to go before the jury who is much more sympatheic to defendants.

No SYG? Interesting. Maybe he’ll get to the point of considering a plea deal: it would show willingness to take responsibility for the outcome of events that he set in motion and it would save society a whole lot of rancor - not to mention money…

You are assuming a lot.
