My point is that I don’t buy cars (or anything else) from a country. I buy it from a company. I don’t care what country it comes from. I do care about the company.
There are a lot of companies that don’t support the Catholic perspective. Probably more than you know…from the car you drive to the computer you use to the phone you talk on to the store you buy food at. Do you boycott them all?

👍
IMO, sometimes the comments in this forum are quite ridiculous and for me, it makes the person holier than Jesus.
It’s like “I’m more knowledgeable about Catholic faith than others.”

So can I go to Starbucks tomorrow?😉
Bring me a venti Sumatra with room for half and half and you gotta deal! 😃

If a good Catholic should boycott that which supports teachings against the Catholic Church, then EVERY Catholic in Illinois should move to another state b/c some of our tax dollars go to pay for embryonic stem-cell research. And I know that we’re not the only state that takes tax dollars to pay for an immoral act. There is no corner of the world with facilities to live in, that is completely moral on all occassions. I say it is better to try to work with the system to change it than to close oneself out of the world. I would venture to say that those who believe in boycotting every company are the same people who decide to not vote. Avoiding sinful people/companies is fine, but that attitude got us to where we are today, with a government and society run by people who give a darn about their immoral positions and are vocal about it.

I’m sure there are more than I know. I try to do the best I can by keeping myself informed w/ the LDI boycott list. If I’m able to boycott I do. I also let the company know about it. Why does this bother you?

You could not be more wrong. Not only do I vote but I work hard on the campaigns of pro-life candidates. Part of that work is getting others to register to vote.
It would be insane to move for the reason stated. We have a moral responsiblilty to fund our governments and try to change the system. It is not possible to boycott the government. It is totally different from a business.

What about supporting the parishes who’s priests believe that women should be ordained, homosexuals should be able to marry, contraception should be allowed, etc…? The vatican hasn’t done a thing about stopping them. Why? The “CEO’s” of those parishes are supporting things against Catholic Teaching.

It doesn’t bother me…really. I think it a bit odd when someone gets upset over a cup of coffee or a car yet they support other companies merely for the sake of convenience.

It is selective morality. We make purchases everyday knowing nothing of the moral position that the company, employees or vendors take regarding your views.

Do you ask the farmer at the road side stand what his stance is on same sex marriage before buying a basket of apples? Of course you don’t…yet that farmer could hold views that are completely contrary to your own views. You don’t ask, because your just happy to have your apples.

…and back to starbucks…I doubt very much that Starbucks has ever issued a statement advising that they are pro-abortion. If they have, I want to see the valid link to the article or story.

I wasn’t sure where i should post this really but i hope you can help me anyways. I was just wondering about one thing. My friend told me to apply at starbucks in my area because they’re hiring and i was looking for a job. I just wanted to know if starbucks is known for supporting anything anti-christian/catholic. If they did then i will not apply. Any help would be great.

God Bless,
I love the carmel macchiatas there.
As far as I know, they are not involved in anti catholic activities.
It’s not their lockheed or anything.

What is the LDI boycott list?

Hold on here - you don’t care about what Country it comes from? So if your happy with the views of Company X, you buy those products.

However, Company X makes the product in a country notorious for human rights abuses or perhaps in a country that exploits its workers with unreasonably low wages.

But you don’t care…because you like Company X and their view on homosexuality? Surely, that is not what your suggesting?

It is incredibly important where products come from…the entire world is connected. You are supporting a massive chain of consumerism every single time you buy something…if you pick up one tid bit of information within this thread…know that you are doing more than simply buying a product from a lone company.

Do you have any idea how many thousands of distributors, companies, NGO’s, governments, individual people, contractors and lobbyists are involved in the production of an automobile? Do not pretend for one single second that by buying a Honda, your are not directly touching and directly supporting tens of thousands of people all over the world. People who more than likely will not share your views on the world.

Honda is great…but what is the moral stance of the company that provides the lug nuts for the car? Do you know see my very clear point?

Do not pretend for even one second that the country of origin is irrelevant…because it is very important.

You were right about one thing though…do your best, that’s all you can do.

A parish is much more than it’s pastor.

It doesn’t bother me that you don’t boycott. I think it’s a bit odd that someone doesn’t get upset when a portion of the proceeds of their cup of coffee goes to child murder.

I don’t pretend that the country of origin is irrelevant. However, change within countries is largely dependent on the citizens of the nation.
Those of us who boycott are more likely to influence the charitable donations of companies than the policies of governments.
If I knowingly purchase a product made by a company that donates thousands of dollars to Planned Parenthood I feel bad. It’s as simple as that. If I have a choice I will choose the product or the store that does not donate to such charities or condones human rights violations.

A portion of my church donation has already gone to child abusers and those who supported them and to pay for their misdeeds. I guess I should boycott the church also…oh but wait, their are also good people there, same as at Starbucks (and the coffee is better at Starbucks)!

The Church has been taken advantage of by pediphiles. That’s a whole different can of worms and if you want to talk about it start a new thread.

Unbelieveable…simply unbelieveable…I am trying to hard not to crack up at the insanity. Someone comes out with a list of no-no’s and tells you that you’re going to hell in a handbasket if you even “think” of getting a cup of coffee from Starbucks…and goodness knows “just who” will see you chugging down a latte grande…

…remember that horrible movie “Priest” back some 15 yrs or so ago?..well somehow it got traced back to “Disney” having a piece of ownership in it…and suddenly the boycotts on Disney went crazy…(way before “gay days” started)…

fast forward to 2006…are Catholics still boycotting Disney because of that movie? I seriously doubt it…if you look at the average mom and dad Catholic with 2.5 kiddos…I’d bet their DVD library as well as their book library is loaded with Disney…

If you want to keep someone employed making money off of someone’s opinion…knock yourself out…

In the meantime, I’m meeting Katie for a cup o Joe at Starbucks 😃

I do boycott Disney. Disney gave PP of Orlando an award of excellence. Not to mention has given thousands of dollars to PP.
I’m sorry you find it so hilarious that I don’t want the blood on my hands from abortion.

Nope, I don’t see it that way. Some of the bosses (the bishops) of the church - the magesterium - have actively supported child abuse and gays. Sounds an awful lot like the CEO’s of Starbucks supporting whatever it is you don’t like them supporting. Of course it’s a little different supporting equal rights for domestic partners than the obscenity of child abuse but I’m sure you get the idea.
