I posted at the beginning of the thread last night and just logged in now and saw there is over 120 posts and don’t have the time (and tbh the inclination) to read them all, so I’m not sure if this has been mentioned. This being people do realize there were the names of dead Americans being honored on those sheets of paper Pelosi tore up, right? If nothing else it’s complete disrespect to all those people and their families.

Misdemeanors are crimes, but less than a felony
That is a use of the word misdemeanor, but it not the use in the Constitutional phrase “high crimes and misdemeanors”.
He did not commit a crime
He did. And it is a crime of just the sort that the founders thought merited impeachment. turning a blind eye to such abuse of power, because “many good things have happened” makes us a nation of men not laws, and one that will not be able to keep its Republic.

As I posted above, a sufficient reason is found in the first criterion, I think: “for especially meritorious contribution to (1) the security or national interests of the United States…”.

And the only technical requirement is if the President wants the recipient to receive it. Though there is a format for making recommendations to him.

He wasn’t a role model for me. That was, foremost, William F. Buckley, Jr.

Rush was a good entertainer, who I listened to for a few years, then let fade away.

Personal reaction. Being a veteran of the Eisenhower years (my formative years), radio commentators were common in my young life, radio being a much bigger component of the media, in the day. I listened and agreed/disagreed, as appropriate. Rush was entertainment with a foundation in many of my values, which he did not form.

But he actually didn’t.
It is a great danger to the nation to hold to that line of thinking that the acts committed by the president and detailed by the House managers are not a crime.

She reached out to shake his hand and he turned his back on the overture

I loved listening to William F. Buckley, Jr. His debate with Gore Vidal was an “event.” Today, talk radio is mostly entertainment: nothing wrong with that per se except when people mistake it for serious political commentary.

The House is just trying to slow down his cheating. The House gave cover to the Ukrainians who don’t want to get involved in our politics. And apparently Rudy continues in Ukraine, but watched

Look man, arguing who was justified is silly. Everyone has their opinion.

More to the point, do you think Pelosi doing what she did made her look good, or helped her cause, or reflected poorly with the average person? That is ultimately all that matters.

To me, she came off as a frustrated villain in an episode of the 1960s Batman series. Each time the democrats think they have have him, he escapes. I was waiting for her to yell “drats, foiled again!” I think it made her look petulant and childish.

That opinion has little to do with whether you liked his speech, or disliked it. Had she refrained from pitching a fit, they’d simply be talking about the handshake snub. As it is, she lost her cool and the focus is on her actions much moreso. Poor form from an adult SotH.

An event I recall well, it having occurred shortly before I got married and started my military career, almost simultaneously. I also recall the various articles the two fired off at each other later, explaining the event.

I’m the only member of my immediate family who did not meet Buckley, though my sister did get my copy of GOD AND MAN AT YALE signed/inscribed to me.

Your opinion. Fortunately for our country, more senators disagree with you than agree.

I’m curious though, just who do you think is out there that will be a better president and why? The Democrats have a pretty weak slate of candidates.

I think the tearing up of the speech was likely not a loss of cool, but a calculated gesture.

That was the first SOTU I’ve listened to in more years than I can remember. All I can say is that it was pure entertainment. Especially the middle school tantrums from the lefties. It looked like somebody knocked over their bicycles.

This is like watching a duel where you hope that both sides lose.

🤣

I found contact information on Nancy’s website. You if do not live in her district you cannot send an email. I, however, called her DC office and left a message letting her know my thoughts about her behavior last night. While I know she really doesn’t care what Americans think of her or any of her actions, I feel it is our right as Americans to tell her how we feel.

Great show of Catholic charity there Nancy!

It is a much greater crime to believe the lies of the House Managers when they have NOT proven their case. The acquittal today will exonerate Trump, but the memory held by those who fell for the Managers’ lies will not be easily erased.
