Even though he might have millions, can he really use it?
Yes, he can. Diocesan priests do not make a promise/vow of poverty.
I mean, he has to l live in a Catholic environment, like at a parish church, doesn’t he?
As a diocesan/secular priest is can live anywhere his bishop allows him.
He doesn’t own his own private residence, does he?
Diocesan priests are allowed to own houses. However, the bishop may or may not allow him to live full time in it. Most diocesan priests who own homes use them for their days off and vacations.
He’s not going to drive around in a Ferrari
He could if he wanted to. However, it wouldn’t be advisable.
I don’t think Catholic priests can invest their $$$ on the market, etc. can they?
Yes, diocesan priests can. We have 403(b)'s, IRA’s, and other such investments.
I always thought priests weren’t free agents, but rather servants of the bishop who can be moved and directed at will.
Each diocesan priest is connected to a bishop, correct. However, bishops do allow a variety of ministries and circumstances.
Though they don’t take an oath of poverty, in some ways the lifestyle of being a priest living in bad parts of town (in many cases) and having to live on the site of parish churches negates any $$$ they have. He can’t live in his own private home I don’t think? So what good does the dough do? I don’t know much about this. I’d love to learn…
The bishop can allow a priest to live in a private home. The overwhelming majority of diocesan priests live in rectories and church properties but there are exceptions.

Is it fair, just, or moral to call a woman about whom you know nothing a psycho? You’re committing the same wrong that someone passing judgment on Father Corapi would be.
See you said “youre” doing something you know nothing about me so how is it that you claim that I did something wrong
BASED ON WHAT I READ FROM FR. CORAPI HIMSELF AND THE PEOPLE OF SANTA CRUZ IS THAT SHE ATTACKED PEOPLE BECAUSE SHE WAS FIRED AND CLAIMED THAT SHE WOULD TAKE FATHER JOHN DOWN.Oor something along those lines
so…in my book thats a bit vengful
and HOW DARE YOU CLAIM I HAVE COMMITED A GRAVE SIN

Father Corapi has already been suspended, which means a canonical process is in progress. He needs canonical legal assistance. For clergy there is more than one type of legal.
If Fr. Corapi has incurred a legal debt by retaining canonical legal assistance, then it was incumbent upon Santa Cruz to specify this in their statement. The plea for financial support was vague, and had an attendent mercenary quality which was immediately striking.

As I have said, I believe Fr. Corapi’s words of denial, which frankly should have stood alone as the singular response to this matter. Santa Cruz comes across as self-serving, and frankly, somehow disingenuous in their statement. Father Corapi has been ill-served by this sloopy, ill-timed attempt at damage control by Santa Cruz.

I will continue to pray for Fr. Corapi, and pray for his accuser as he has asked us to do. That there are troubling aspects to this story which cause one pause are the source and substance of so much of this angst-ridden speculation. We don’t have clarity, so the mind probes for details. Fr. Corapi is a beloved figure, so the consternation over this affair is very raw and emotional. May his name be cleared swiftly and completely.

This is the last thing that Father HIMSELF has said and I think it speaks volumes
The bishops have jumped the gun based on a phsyco woman’s claims
however the damage to his name has already begun
the church in america is so flawed though
if a bishop isnt supporting a liberal politician that supports abortion (directly or indirectly)
he is usually involved in some scandal or keeping quiet
The church in america seems to be suffering right now so Im not suprised that they went TOO FAR in the suspension of Fr. John, based on a non-credible phsyco woman’s vengful claim.
the guilty-just-in-case routine is very damaging
The bishops have done nothing. Fr Corapi was placed on leave by the superior of his religious community.

There is so much misunderstanding and misinformation going on with this story it is saddening.

Your reply is still non-responsive, i.m.o., not addressing what I addressed.
I certainly did address your post. I said that what you purport to be able to do you, if fact, can not do.

Time will tell what the real facts are.

I certainly did address your post.
No you didn’t. You argued something I was not arguing.
I said that what you purport to be able to do you, if fact, can not do.
If you think that I purported to do anything except the following, you were imagining it:

I stated that all we can state affirmatively is that any man can fall from grace. (= possibility)

I stated that given all the mitigating factors in the case of this particular man, the probability of his committing these particular actions is at best controversial. The most accurately mathematical statement that can be made is that the probability of his commission of these acts is 50%.

The more realistic estimate, i.m.o., of someone with his profile, background, personality, and measurable risks, having committed these acts, is considerably less than 50%, by anyone applying the logic of the facts of his life to the accusations being leveled.

The only factor that could alter those odds would be to assume that he is a liar: to assume that the autobiographical details of his life are ones he invented. (Because among the “givens” I include the autobiographical facts of his life as he has related them. Those details, if true, illustrate traits such as discipline, will, single-mindedness, repentance, self-awareness of one’s weakness, and spiritual humility despite the human component of ego.) I take it at face value that the man is not a liar.

I concur. Sometimes, I think people do NOT read all of the posts before adding to the discussion…🤷

This has already been posted. Puts a new light into the situation:

Corapi accuser promised to ‘destroy’ priest after being fired: claim

KALISPELL, Montana, March 25, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A leader of the company that manages Rev. John Corapi’s media has claimed that the recent accusations against the popular priest were launched by a “disgruntled” former employee who vowed to “destroy” Corapi’s reputation.
Corapi, a well-known Catholic personality and member of the Society of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity (SOLT) who has been extremely outspoken on the life and family issues, has been placed on “administrative leave” in consultation with the diocese of Corpus Christi, Texas, where SOLT is based.
The move was in reaction to a letter by a former employee of the media company sent to several bishops and claiming that Corapi was addicted to drugs and sexually involved with multiple women

I posted this to the other thread on this topic but I feel it needs to be stated here also.

While some canon lawyers may be of the opinion that Fr Corapi’s suspension is illicit, that means it is not in accordance to canon law, there is more than just canon law in play.

Fr Corapi is a member of a religious community. Religious communities are bound by constitutions/statues. Those may have something to say about this matter that canon lawyers would not be aware of nor could they really comment on it intelligently.

Why Iron Man? Because I LOVE Marvel comics, love Iron Man, X Men, Spiderman, Avengers, etc. What’s not to love about Iron Man!? Come on, man! 😛
I wouldnt say attacks but rather indifference and there is alot of it though I guess the negative sticks out more than the positive but in the earlier posts I think thats the case
also (off topic)
why Iron man?🙂

It still appears to be the word of one individual against Father Corapi, which in light of 1st Timothy 5:19 is very disturbing.

“disgruntled employee” doesn’t sound good to me. It’s probably just a vendetta against Father but we’ll have to wait and see and pray for all involved. We don’t have enough information to make an informed decision. But I tend to suspect Father is going to come through…

👍 👍 AMEN AND AMEN!

What you said, ByzCath! We all need to calm down and let his superiors and whomever else might have a say in this matter take care of things.

We have to sit back, take a deep breath, and PRAY!

Wise words indeed 🙂

He was awarded over $3 million in 2005 in a settlement deal stemming from a lawsuit against the Shasta Regional Medical Center.
You’re privy to the details of the settlement, then.

Does he keep it in his mattress or has he invested in penny stocks?

The settlement is public knowledge.

Redding heart-surgery whistleblower Corapi…

Again, I think everyone should read all the posts in the threads before commenting. This link I have posted has already been posted in one of the various threads on this issue.

I applaud Fr Corapi for blowing the whistle on these doctors. Maybe more should do this. Doctors are not invincible and in the process, Fr Corapi may have helped many people in the process. We do not know what he did with the money though and it is none of our business…

We can remain calm during this period of time. We are all adult, spiritual people. I would like to see this thread remain open as it will help all of us to keep in touch with the subject. Fr Corapi is much loved because he is well-known. Let us remain prayerful for him and all concerned. This is what he wants us to do. Let God’s will unfold…🙂
