Get a non-racist President
Blaming fatherless children in black communities on Trump, who has been in office for less than 4 years?
Education about slavery
National dialogue on Race
What more needs to be said about slavery? Slavery ended 155 years ago. It is well documented and no one denies what it was. No one denies the inhumanity and brutality of slavery. No one denies the damage slavery did to those who were subjected to it.

No one alive today was ever a slave in a southern state in America. Of all the black Americans, how many are actual decedents of slaves of the American south?
White people need to champion Black rights and opportinutues
I take issue with the phrase “Black rights”. One, there is no such thing as “Black rights” because we all have human rights. One thing I know is God made us all in His image, all of us human. So there are no white rights, brown rights, black rights, just human rights.

I don’t know why you don’t see this happening already. I see it all the time. I see very successful people of all colors all the time. Everybody has the opportunity to make a success of their life. It is a matter of wanting to, of being willing to take action. It requires a change of attitude though. You have to start thinking in terms of what am I responsible instead of what do “they” own me. You have to stop waiting around for “someone” to do something, and start doing something for yourself.

This is one of my biggest issue with Democrat politics. They want people to believe they will are that “someone” who will do it for them. They really don’t want people to do it on their own.

No, women are objectified in every relationship where contraception is used and that is Catholic teaching, i.e., even a loving husband commits the sin of objectifying his wife when she becomes SOLELY the object of his lust when contraceptives are used to separates the love act from its purpose of begetting.

Although you don’t have to be Catholic to understand this. More and more Christians are coming to this conclusion as are other religious (and some atheists).

We as a society have forgotten what sex is for.

Yes, I understand what you mean, there is in some instances a give and take, but these communities are not ignorant of birth control, so what should we propose to do, force them??

I think the matter goes deeper than a simple solution of birth control, because after all the prevalence of sex outside of marriage was spurred on by the legal and widespread use of birth control in the first place.

I like this part of the article:
The most damage done to black Americans is inflicted by those politicians, civil rights leaders, and academics who assert that every problem confronting blacks is a result of a legacy of slavery and discrimination. That’s a vision that guarantees perpetuity for the problems.

Denzel Washington on fatherlessness:

Only 3 minutes long, definitely worth watching.

Figure out how to bring the black fathers back into the black families and that would help a lot. I’d start with jobs with some sort of social welfare reform tie-in that would emphasize keeping parents together so they can raise their children. That social welfare reform should be available to the poor of all races. But it would help the blacks the most as they are the ones most affected.

Some suggested reading for Fathers Day would be Saint Paul’s first letter to Timothy. It is not long and is full of thoughts on the family, although some verses taken out of context are so contrary to our culture that they will be rejected by some without even trying to understand them.

The letter begins:
Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by command of God our savior and of Christ Jesus our hope,
to Timothy, my true child in faith: grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
1 Timothy 1:1-2
and includes:
Further, Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and transgressed.
But she will be saved through motherhood, provided women persevere in faith and love and holiness, with self-control.
1 Timothy 2:14-15
But if a widow has children or grandchildren, let these first learn to perform their religious duty to their own family and to make recompense to their parents, for this is pleasing to God.
1 Timothy 5:4
And whoever does not provide for relatives and especially family members has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
1 Timothy 5:8
I charge you before God and Christ Jesus and the elect angels to keep these rules without prejudice, doing nothing out of favoritism.
1 Timothy 5:21

No, I’m just saying that the birth rate is indeed down, and this is one of the reasons.

This is also true. It’s truly a multi-pronged problem.

Lately, I’ve come to believe that while slavery ended, enslavement has not. Until these systemic problems are addressed, then, yes, there will be problems in perpetuity.

I agree with you, but does it bother you that the heavily Catholic Hispanics have more out of wedlock births and abortions than white Protestants? Does it bother you that heavily non-Christian Asian Americans have lower rates of out of wedlock births than other Americans who claim to be Christians?

It seems like a major failure of evangelization to me, with innocent children being the principal victims.

It will probably fall long before any fixing is possible.
Why do you think it will fall? What do you think that falling will consist of?

Babylon fell. I think it will result in a totalitarian system replete with thought crime, we’ll endure years if not decades of outright persecution of those with differing beliefs, and finally the entire morally and economically bankrupt system will fall because they always do.

Have you ever read Wilhelm Reich? Mass Psychology of Fascism? Listen, Little Man?

Well, of course, why wouldn’t it? Any child whose born out of wedlock and grows up fatherless is to be pitied. And yes, a better means of evangelization needs to be implemented in these communities.

It is hard to tell on message boards, but I certainly did not mean to say you would not be concerned. It was more of an open question to everyone else in support of your claim that even people with no faith could reach the conclusion that marriage and the family are part of our nature and that these cause better outcomes for society as a whole.

The state university of New Jersey, Rutgers, did a multi-year, multi-disciplinary study called “The Marriage Project” that is now being continued at the University of Virginia. They reached some unsurprising conclusions (to me) that families with marriage compared to any other arrangement resulted in better mental and physical health, longer lifespans, better educational outcomes, more income, more assets, lower crime rates, and lower rates of incarceration. Why politicians would embrace policies that produce outcomes contrary to those findings is a huge mystery to me.

The irony here is the politicians and celebrities who mindlessly jam “evidence-based” and “science” into their sentences are the biggest offenders.
Though policies play a role, the biggest culprit is the culture shaped by Hollyweird and pop culture. Fatherlessness can happen due to unfortunate causes (death, abuse, adultery. abandonment) and was considered unfortunate. Now it’s encouraged because “smash the patriarchy” and “empowerment”. And men are taught they have no responsibilities.

Yes, I think pop culture and media plays a big role in fatherlessness, but I think, initially, it was the sexual revolution, which was ignited by access to birth control. Birth control use promulgated this general attitude to where people became easy, people became objectified, and children became collateral damage.

It is forgotten that Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood, purposely instituted abortion and birth control clinics within black communities. She consorted with Hitler and believed Black people were “weeds”. 😡

How do we solve fatherlessness?
I dont think we as voters can solve it. The state can’t force someone to love. At this point, we can only pray, and fight hard to make sure our own sons and daughter see the long-lasting value of virtue and joy.

Yep. How can one think it isn’t?
I find it to be more of an organic problem where some communities are clearly broken while other’s are thriving and healthy. A healthy family is a strong correlation.

I agree with that.

My son took eight years to graduate from college. But, he is the grandson of four college graduates, the son of college graduates, the nephew of college graduates. There is no divorce in even the extended family.

So, he persevered. I am incredibly proud of him. But he had an awful lot going for him. He had a lot of expectations and a lot of support.

Some people don’t have that.
