Communion on the tongue won’t stop those who want to do this again or something similar. 🤷

But…excellent point about having one’s legacy chisled into the internet.

BTW, what’s a statue of St. Michael going to do to thwart this kind of situation?
No, nothing will stop this from happening if someone is intent on it. But…it would at least be a deterrant. Easier just to walk out of church with the Host in hand and not have to fish it out of you mouth!

But that is exactly what he did - fished the Host out of his mouth and put it in the ziplock bag he brought with him. He is now bringing anti-hazing charges against the Catholic Campus Ministries because they ‘made’ him consume it. Actually, they said, consume it or give it back so he was not forced to eat it. He could just as easily have handed it back but he refused to do so.

I don’t think this charge will stick. but he brought it in response to Catholic students bringing him up on charges with 2 separate authorities, one a student body, the other, the university itself.

This was a disgusting act, that i think no one other than the priests and faithful involved truly understand how terrible it is.

“Father please forgive them, for they know not what it is they do”

I am so deeply troubled by these recent developments because there are so so so many more young like this one running around the country. So much arrogance and self pride, and from personal experience these types have a grudge to pick with someone so they attack things like the church, etc.

The scariest part for me about all this is how is swept throughout the country so quickly, and how all the networks were quick to pick up on it. And sure enough a barrage of enemies of the church have risen up in support of this sort of thing. “If you wanna **** off the catholics do this!” And a lot of it is that, people just want to **** us off.

To me this feels like the beginning of a dark time. In this country the seeds against the faith have been sown, and now there is a generation of children running around that aren’t baptized. Already it is starting in san francisco. In canada it is full blown against the law to proclaim the teachings of the church.

This is the beginning of a very dark time, and I fear deeply that our churches are at risk. How long before copy cats spring up in other cities and we have to protect our churches? It is time to get serious about the Eucharist, and start making it mandatory to receive on the tongue. (and maybe kneeling…who knows) At least it would be a whole lot more obvious if someone does remove it from their mouth, and once moist would naturally decay if stolen.

Be vigilant in these times, our faith is probably going to be tested very heavily in the future and we’ll end up in an us and them situation…and we msut pray for them.

Fret not. This could well be a big boost to the abolition of ‘communion in the hand’. So a great good could come of it.

This sad and upsetting incident (and there have been others like it) makes a great argument for communion on the tongue ALONE!
Why is that. If he taken the host on his tongue it would not have been noticed. He would have just kept his mouth shut.

This person, presuming he’s Catholic, and he says he was, is guilty of the sin of sacrilege and desecration of the Eucharist, which means automatic excommunication. If he repents and confesses this sin and all other sins he may have committed, the excommunication will be automatically lifted.
IIRC, Roman canon law requires him to confess to the bishop before the excommunication can be lifted.

LOL! been there, done that. that could have happened either way.
🙂
Eric & Hilde, that’s why we receive on the knees under both species - The Wine made into the Blood of Christ actually can help in removing the Body of Christ from the Roof of the Mouth. If all else fails, use the simple expedient of a 1/2 cup of water swallowed with the Body of Christ (Must NOT be spit out)…

Also been there and done that and had to ask the Lord how to keep fingers out of mouth (Foot belongs there, but not fingers)…

Newbie:

He’s lucky he didn’t pull this stunt in the Early Church - They would have excommunicated him and he would have been lucky to be have been readmitted after a PROLONGED period of penance… And there’s NO telling what the Deacons who guard the doors would have done.

And, He’s definitely lucky he didn’t desecrate a Quran or anything else that was holy to Muslims - I don’t think he’d be around to wine about “physical force”…
“Cook said he still hopes to meet with the local Bishop to discuss prohibiting the use of force to recover the Eucharist. He also wants an apology.”

Hmmm…a deliberate attempt to antagonize, and he wants an apology.

My guess is that if he were to have the sand to try to desecrate the Koran durning a Muslim service, there’d be a little more than physical restraint involved…not to mention he’d probably be arraigned on a hate crime.

Which, by the way (not that the parish or diocese involved would actually do it), but couldn’t he be accused of a hat crime?

And “Professor” Myers of conspiracy to commit a hate crime?

In any case, what these two need is our prayers rather than the good thrashing that our weak side would rather see them receive.
…I’m sure Professor Myers wouldn’t dare mention desecrating the Holy Quran or any thing else that is holy to Muslims, because, unlike Catholics, He wouldn’t live to regret it or tell the tale.

I wish these people would stop mistaking our charity and decency for weakness and decide that maybe our mercy is an attempt to preach the Gospel by ATTRACTION rather than COERCION. And, Maybe he should ask which he would rather have, because if he succeeds in getting rid of us, the Islamists will gladly fill the void left by our departure…

Newbie:

Communion on the Tongue is a reminder of the Reverence and Godly Fear we we need to have for the Son of God we’re receiving - Kneeling to receive does the same thing. I know someone who receives kneeling but in the hand, but he does it with such reverence, focus and Godly Fear that it’s obvious that he believes he’s receiving the The Lord Jesus Christ under the guise of bread and wine.

I understand that’s rare, but facilitated by KNEELING.

The statue of St. Michael places the parish under the protection of St. Michael the Archangel and reminds the parishioners that they are in a Spiritual War. It also reminds them to say the Prayer to St. Michael, which further places both the Catholic and the congregation under St. Michael’s protection.

I hope that answers your questions.

thats sort of funny. Christ sticks to the roof of your mouth, not in your hands.

IIRC, Roman canon law requires him to confess to the bishop before the excommunication can be lifted.
This delict is reserved to the Holy See, in particular the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. See Sacramentorum sanctitatis tutela (The Safeguarding of the Sanctity of the Sacraments.) The bishop can only investigate and refer. That gives an indication of just how horrific this is to us (nor is it a suitable topic in the minds of Catholics to occasion humor).

This is true as well, the thought came to me while commuting. It is appropriately timed with the event of the pope requesting that all who receive communion from him at WYD do so on the tongue.

I was going to mention that too…😉

I agree, but methinks neither would thwart an effort by someone intentionally out to do what this clown managed to do.

The student ushers tried to pry the Host out of his hands once they realized he wasn’t consuming it. They were watching.
If that’s true…those student ushers assaulted that man…they had no right to apply force directly, without his consent and nor did they have color of right to remove from his hand, that which had been given to him.

Ha. Sure they did. You go into a club, you break the rules, you get bounced.

If he had been spray painting obscenities on the church walls, surely they would have the right to force the spray paint can from his hands. Why should his desecration be treated any differently?

Colour of right.

He does not have the right to spray paint property that does not belong to him. He does not have colour of right.

The Eucharist was given to him. He has the right to do with the Eucharist as he pleases. He has colour of right.

The Eucharist was given to him for him to consume, not for any other use, and certainly not to do with as he pleases.

What contract did he sign that stipulates that ushers may grab him and forceably remove the host from his hands?

Do you really believe that he would be charged with theft if he hadn’t returned the host?

If your answer is yes…🤷

If your answer is no, as it should be, you will now understand that he had every right to keep that host in his hand or do anything he wanted with it…it was given to him…it is now his.
