I can understand what you are implying. However, the foundation goal remains to destroy Catholicism because it is the one main obstacle to a variety of secular agendas. One does not really have to end all forms of religion. All that has to be done is to get religious people to cave regarding basic truths. The movement to change Catholic doctrines so that they comport with secular views is a good example.

But I digress. Essentially you are correct. The goal is to end all forms of religion and make us a nation of atheists.

Nothing scares atheists more than religion, and no religion scares them more than Catholicism. That is why atheists from the Freedom From Religion Foundation are threatening to sue Steubenville over a proposed new city logo: the design shows the cross and a silhouette of the campus chapel, along with such landmarks as Fort Steuben and the Veterans’ Memorial Bridge.

As is commonplace, city logos reflect the people and institutions associated with the municipality, and in the case of Steubenville, this means including symbols that represent the Franciscan University of Steubenville. Because of its national reputation as a first-class Catholic university, any depiction of the school that does not reflect its Catholic identity would be dishonest. Indeed, it would be like nixing the “Fighting Irish” leprechaun-figure from a logo representing the University of Notre Dame.

Initially, city officials were wary of the costs involved (if the city loses it has to pick up court-ordered legal fees), so they opted for a new logo: the university would be featured without a depiction of the cross and chapel. But after a groundswell of support for the initial logo, experienced pro-bono lawyers have stepped forth. Everything is now on hold.

It is entirely constitutional to have religious symbols outside City Hall at Christmastime, provided they are accompanied by secular symbols. It should also be constitutional to have religious symbols accompany secular ones on a city logo, especially when the former clearly represent an institution that is integrally associated with the municipality.

Or when will they start demanding every city, town and community in the US that has a religious name change it? From Providence, Rhode Island and St. Paul, Minn. to the hundred or so cities in California that start with the words “San” or “Santa.” Even Los Angeles will have to change it’s name!! I look forward to that day…that will be quite a fight!! And a futile one (for the atheists) at that!!;):D:)

Pardon me.

It will only be a fight if today, each one of us commits ourselves to defending American religious liberty today. Today is imporrtant. If we lose today in today’s battle for American religious freedom, then the battle over “city names” will have already been won by the opposition. Today is the day to mail a letter to our representatives, local, state, and national.

Why not change the school name to something moreCatholic
Why give free publicity to a town that rejects them.
How much benifit have names like Boston College Dayton Faifield and dozens more given these cities.

Before 1955 it was just “One Nation” I guess by then there were too many people who couldn’t figure out that this nation was “under God” so they had to add it as a reminder!🤷

Seems to me that it is time to remind our elected government that we are still a nation under God which means that religious liberty is meant for all people. By the way, is our election process still free? If so, why are so many people afraid to tell their elected represenatives the truth about religious freedom? Does Steubenville still have freedom?

Perhaps if the image is dropped from the logo, that would be an appropriate change. Why associate the institution with a town from which it has been disassociated?

The City of Steubenville is now considering its options, according to an article in the local newspaper (dated August 3rd)
City Manager Cathy Davison said Thursday the city administration has received several offers of pro-bono legal representation and will continue to discuss the issue with City Council.

My oldest niece graduated from FU; her little sister is a senior. God bless this wonderful University! Check this out from the FFRF website:

“The Freedom From Religion Foundation has been found eligible for inclusion on the National Part of the 2010 Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) Charity List. FFRF has been a CFC charity since 2007. Freedom From Religion Foundation, Inc. will appear in the listing of “National/International Independent Organizations” which is published in each local campaign charity list. The CFC code donors should use to designate their contribution to FFRF is 32519. The Foundation received over $40,000 from CFC donors in 2009.”

This group is a charity? So charitable of them to attack Steubenville for showing pride in an important landmark. The local citizen, representing a miniscule minority segment of the Steubenville population, successfully demonstrated how the politically correct can tyrannize the majority by feigned insult.
