Sorry if this isn’t the right place to post this. I’ve posted something on the topic of masturbation (from a very different angle) and no one said it was in the wrong place, so I hope I’m okay this time. If it’s not, then someone please help me post this somewhere else.
Hello, my name is Anthony. Recently I discovered, that many Catholics, of all ages, men and women, are committing the grave mortal sin of masturbation.
Masturbation is the sin of touching one’s genitals for sexual pleasure. Not only did Saint Thomas Aquinas condemn it as wrong, (and the Church has said for us to deeply rely on him! Saint Thomas Aquinas, pray for us!) but the Church as a whole has, I believe.
Since genitals on both men and women are sensitive, you can understand why people commit it. Even Catholics.
I will even go now to say, I have committed the sin of masturbation. I started around three years ago, and basically…I’ve been going none-stop since. Once a day, or every other day. I knew it was wrong, and I still do. That’s why I’m still fighting it, and I want to help any fellow brothers and sisters in Christ with this sin.
Recently, I haven’t been masturbating as much, which makes me very happy. After any time I would masturbate, I will feel so dirty, as I should. I am sure many of you have felt the “dirty” feeling. And I can tell you first-hand, as soon as you begin to stop, you will feel happier!
So now I’m going to give you advice for what’s helped me stop:
And if it makes you feel better, I too, will pray for you all (even if you don’t struggle with masturbation)! God Bless You All!

- Pray the Rosary: As Padre Pio said, Prayer is our only Weapon. The devil will try all in his power to tempt you into masturbation (or any sin) as much as he can. But when we say the Rosary, it’s like the Blessed Mother enters our house and visits us. Satan is afraid of the Blessed Mother, and if you pray to the Blessed Mother, she will help you, and make sure Satan keeps far away. And of course, ask Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, to help you “never commit the sin of masturbation again!”
- Don’t get Sad: Usually, when I would masturbate, I would feel very sad throughout the day. As punishment, I would prevent myself from doing my favorite hobbies (Video Games, Music, etc). And of course, I would feel bad from missing my hobbies, but mainly from offending God. Well, let me say now: don’t get so down after you masturbate. Simply say an Act of Contrition, ask Jesus for his forgiveness (with or without tears) and if you are TRULY sorrowful, God will have forgiven you. You MUST still confess it of course, but you will still have Perfect Contrition. If you were to die, you would not perish in Hell for that sin. And if you ever feel bad in the day, just say a prayer, and forget you committed the sin. I know it’s hard, but fight it! Don’t even remember it!
- Stop Being Alone: Whether it happens when you’re alone, or because no one can see you, you need to do your part, and be in a place where you can’t masturbate (in front of your family, or a picture of Our Lord). Many times, I was alone with a Laptop. I think you figure out where it went. Not good. But once, I was going to work on something on a Laptop alone, but just in case, I went downstairs with my family. As long as you CAN’T commit the sin, you’re not. Even if you want to, as long as you stay down where you can’t and say something like: “Satan, Go Away! I do not want to sin against God ever AGAIN!” you will not commit ANY sin, and obtain a virtue, with greater merit in Heaven.
- Ask for God’s Help: After masturbation, I would ask God to give me the grace to never commit it again. Not long later I planned to masturbate. I was waiting for my family to leave, so I could do it quickly, but as I was getting ready, something in me said “NO! NEVER AGAIN!” It was God helping me! Sure enough, I ended up not masturbating! God will give you the grace if you pray. There will still be temptations, but we HAVE to fight them! Pray to God that he’ll help you never masturbate again! And you pray enough, he WILL help you.
And if it makes you feel better, I too, will pray for you all (even if you don’t struggle with masturbation)! God Bless You All!
