The culture today is fixated on sex.
No where near as much as many of those who claim to be Christians are. I see a lot of foaming at the mouth obsessives who find time to think or talk about little else. It’s downright pathological, and not at all anything Jesus would approve of.

Sexual sins are, generally, mortal. Rape, adultery, contraception, and homosexual activity can all be mortal. Why not speak out against those sins which can lead one to eternal damnation?
Then where are the t-shirts promising Hell for adulterers and contraceptive users? Why are these almost always about homosexuality? Sounds like the ones spouting about it are thinking about it more than anyone else.

So I’ll ask the question again, “Is it hateful for one to NOT want someone to lose their immortal soul?” Because that is what it comes down to.
No, but if you want to save souls, would you not say that there are better ways to skin that cat?

Is wearing that t-shirt the best way to save souls? I mean, if you really want to reach more people regarding sexual sins, why not have a t-shirt that says “Sex Outside of Marriage is a Sin.” ? From a numbers perspective, odds are there are more heterosexual students engaging in sex outside of marriage than homosexual students.
I don’t think that would work either, but I would imagine the girl who wore the “Homosexuality is a sin” t-shirt would NOT wear it for fear of being ostracized. (Its much easier to ostracize the gay kids).

Bottom line: Homosexual activity is a sin, homosexual inclination is not. What is the best way to reach those lost sheep? I think the t-shirt does more harm than good.

It all comes down to baloney being baloney, and no matter how much spin one may put on it, no one is going to believe it’s filet mignon. The father in the story is a garden variety merchant of baloney.

I don’t know where are they? Your profile says you’re Catholic. Do you think it’s ok to contracept or be an adulterer?

Perhaps they are spouting about it because of the publicity over the last few years about gay rights. It has been very public with lots of publicity. Or do you think it’s ok for gays to get married and engage in homosexual activity?

You didn’t answer the question.

If the girl is truly interested in keeping her classmates out of sin, then an anti-masturbation and anti-fornication shirt would reach everybody, not just a small percentage subgroup.

Her shirt bears the words “homosexuality is a sin”
Which isn’t actually true.

See: the Catechism.
By warning them, she is loving them much more than those who allow anything and everything.
This is so far away from actual fraternal correction, it’s the opposite of that. It’s scandalous itself.

From a 1st amendment perspective: If a teacher has a pride sticker on display, which seems to be allowed, then the student has the right to wear the t-shirt
This is not true at all.

Another reason to raise your kids instead of letting the state raise them.

I don’t know for sure, but I’m guessing that she decided to wear the shirt in response to seeing others promote their views, e.g. the teacher with the rainbow sticker on his desk.

She is worried about their immortal souls and where they will spend eternity.
If she truly is worried about their immortal souls and not just self-righteously hammering them, a better way might be to have a conversation over coffee. I would guess that very few ppl have a change of heart by reading a t-shirt.

That shirt is inappropriate for school attire. As are many other garments.

you sound like a hater :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Schools are getting sued all the time for violation of free speech policies. I would not want my kid wearing that shirt, but if the school is allowing a particular viewpoint to be displayed, there is a case to be made they need to other viewpoints as well, even those you don’t like.

How about just not allowing any shirts with any writing, and not allowing any stickers that support a cause / viewpoint? How about we just educate our children on the subject matter of the class?
