To be clear…

What role, according to you, does the individual person play in controlling/overcoming what ails them mentally or spiritually? No role at all?
Sometimes individuals don’t have much control over what ails them mentally. My father has Alzheimer’s and it’s had a significant mental effect on him. But there’s not much he can do to make the amyloid plaques in his brain that are the likely cause of Alzheimer’s go away.
Sometimes does not automatically transpose to always.

The case still needs to be made that gender dysphoria is akin to Alzheimer’s.

You cannot assume it is merely because it might be.
I wasn’t saying that gender dysphoria is similar to Alzheimer’s, only responding to your posts that seemed to me to imply that most mental conditions can be overcome by the individual themselves without medication. You often seem to be saying that the problem is usually in the person’s thoughts and in their “mind” not necessarily in their brain.

Nah, Google isn’t “my friend.” It is skewed in its results. I have other mechanisms to can use.
You certainly can distinguish a peer-reviewed paper from fluff from an internet search. And there’s Google Scolar.
The regret shown by the individual in the OP demonstrates that a great deal could be at stake and that some in the medical profession are all too ready to undertake imprudent courses of action.
I don’t disagree with this. The OP’s article states the patient did not follow the standards of care but used the informed consent approach. Except in this case the patient was too immature to inform his consent.

It’s to avoid these situations that the stands of care were developed in the first place. Caveat emptor.

In summary: I believe it is morally licit to treat the transgendered according to the WPATH standards of care, which in extremis can include surgery.

I believe the « informed consent » treatment model as presented in the article is deficient and as such morally dubious, and especially, morally illicit in the immature.
And you are also fully aware that no one here has ever advocated doing nothing?

Apart from furthering research on the topic, which may help suffers in the future, what concrete proven proposals have you put forward to help sufferers now?

One concrete proposal would be to not permit the activists and social progressives to dictate public policy.

There are moves in many jurisdictions to permit children as young as five years old to choose their gender. There are also moves in some education ministries to shut parents out of the discussion when children claim some gender other than their birth gender, including removing them from the custody of parents who don’t “go along” with the child’s decision.

All of these imply that government health agencies are all too ready to let social movements dictate public policy out of fear of being targeted as “transphobic.” There is something amiss with letting activists and not reliable medical practice determine what is good practice.

I cited this article previously but no one seemed to have responded to it. So here it goes again.

From the article…
The NHS is “over-diagnosing” children having medical treatment for gender dysphoria, with psychologists unable to properly assess patients over fears they will be branded “transphobic”, former staff have warned.

Thirty five psychologists have resigned from the children’s gender-identity service in London in the last three years, Sky News research suggests.
What is troublesome is that the same individuals who line up on the progressive left seem to always take the same point of view as the political left with regard to all issues whether they be medical, moral or social. That would seem to indicate that it isn’t medical research, ethical considerations or what is good for society that is the warrant these people have for their perspective, but rather that political concerns are driving the perspective they take. That is dangerous for anyone caught within the agenda of the progressive left who go along with it without due deliberation.

That, fundamentally, is my concern.

Again, no proposal on what can be done to help sufferers now. Not permitting some group to “dictate public policy” doesn’t do anything to ameliorate the suffering right now of those experiencing gender dysphoria.

But you should not allow that concern to permanently taint your assessment of a medically endorsed treatment, in relevant circumstances, simply because there is a fringe group that would happen to support it.

What taints my perspective is the experience of our culture over the past 40 years or so.

Some new idea comes along – say abortion to save the life of the mother – that idea gets support and it quickly snowballs to abortion for any reason that the mother decides right up to birth and even after. Infanticide will be next – if Peter Singer is taken any more seriously than he has to now.

Similar things are happening with euthanasia in some of the European countries. It will get worse as soon as the population control / climate alarmists have their way.

Gay rights is now morphing into transgender rights where trans-women can compete in sports as biological women to a distinct advantage.

The issue seems to be that once a new idea comes on to the scene there is to be no stopping that idea from going to its logical and often absurd terminus.

We seem, as culture, to have lost all sense of perspective and restraint.

Back in the 1950s, women most commonly held jobs as secretaries, receptionists, bank tellers, sales clerks, teachers, etc. Now some of them want to be presidents and prime ministers. What’s the world coming to?

😲

Now THIS is what it’s coming to…
What if a Trans MAN is looking at vocation as a PRIEST?
What happens THEN!!

The Catholic Church operates in reality.
No matter what some person may do to themselves to appear one way or the other, the Church will work on what they actually are.

And the Catholic church doesn’t doesn’t teach anything against using preferred pronouns and names or transitioning.
