I have always liked Barbara’s music . I will always remember her in that old movie she was in with Robert Redford. I think she has every right to her support what ever politics she likes. She also has the right to use any language she choses.

Wasn’t she going to move out of the country if GW got elected? Why is she still here?

QUOTE=ben182;1571811]I think that she’s probably been so used to working in a relatively controlled and studied environment(recording and film studios) that the heckler thing just got to her. She is a perfectionist. Plus I read that they were recording the New York performances for a CD. The heckler probably got into the way of her performing. Of course now they’d need to put some R-rating to that CD if they release it with the bomb.

Personally, I wasn’t surprised that she used the F-word. I enjoy following on her interviews and stuff (though I don’t buy her merchandise as often anymore). In a recent interview, she said that F— was her favorite curse word. Well she went to say more than that. But then again, I guess she didnt realize that not everyone knew that about her.

I also didn’t think it was fair of her to impose her political views on people who were there to hear her sing>ardless of their political stand. People paid money to see her perform…

I was trying to edit the comment above when my computer just froze. Anyway, what I wanted to say was that “People paid money to see her perform…not to hang into every whim or point of view of hers.” I like listening to some of her work but, if I were a Republican, I wouldn’t like it myself if someone expected me to pay so much money and forced me to listen to her political point of view for the sake of “charity.” It doesn’t sound very charitable, in the first place, to expect others to give money contrary to their beliefs or without setting the expectations before selling the tickets. Not all of her fans are die hard or hang on to her every word. It’s enough that they wanted to see her. As much as I’ve enjoyed her music, she was pushing the envelope too far even for her own sake.

Well, nothing more to say…the message seems clear in this thread.

NO, SHE DOESN’T! She has as much right as I do to come to your family gatherings and use profanity. You have the right to free speech, not the right to be heard.

In my childhood Italian home, circa 1960, Dad was in love with Babs and Mom was in love with Frankie. On the old reel-to-reel tape player Dad would play “Color Me Barbra” and “Funny Girl” while Mom screamed for more Frankie in the background. I grew up thinking Babs could be my step-mom someday if my real mom was ever out of the picture. So for me, Funny Girl was as much a part of my childhood memories as King of Kings or the Ten Commandments. It’s depressing for both me and my Dad to see where Babs has gone with her enormous talent. It really is the perfect illustration for me of how important it is for celebrities to keep their political opinions to themselves. I remember when I sent my Dad a Babs CD about 10 years ago and he sent it back because he couldn’t stand to listen to her knowing where she stood on issues that were so important to him. I still watch Funny Girl every now and then and just try to pretend it is still 1965 and I know nothing about Babs except that she has a fabulous voice! And thank God she never became my step-mom!

Some people look good with big noses. Others don’t. Her’s fits her face. She was wise not to change it.
If she changed it it could have affected her voice.

I used to listen to her because my dad liked her voice. But I don’t like her voice so much and I think my dad listens to Celine Dion now. I think, and this is totally subjective, that Celine has a nicer quality to her voice.

As far as the politics go, I wouldn’t support her or go to a show because of her politics. Its the same thing with the Dixie Chicks. Sure they can say whatever they want, they have that freedom, but should they? No one cares who they offend anymore and people tend to speak before they think. Maybe Babs is not worried about losing her fan base so it doesn’t matter to her.

When you charge and people actually pay $750.00 & up for a ticket to see her, nah, she’s not worried about losing her fan base! I’m not a fan of Streisand, in fact I find her very annoying so I would never buy her music or see her perform and go off on her political rants. I am however, a former Dixie Chicks fan. They annoyed me royally & I returned the C.D. my Husband happened to buy for me on the day the controversy broke. They lost alot of their fan base, but they are not on the same level as Babs as she’s considered a Queen in the music business. She also is loved in the Gay community along with Cher & Bette Midler (two other performers I do not suffer well:rolleyes: ). I do believe that everyone has a right to their own opinions, but keep in mind that by speaking out, they risk offending some of their fans at the same time. So the chips will fall where they may. If they can’t deal with that, then just “Shut Up & Sing!”

she’s ugly but her sister who has more talent isn’t;) .
Streisand doesn’t have a sister.
I don’t think she’s “ugly” either. Maybe because MY nose is rather large also and my mother always told me it gave my face character. (moms - what can I say?..)
She has a beautiful voice.
She has NO sense of humor nor propriety.

She has a brother and a half-sister. Though I don’t know if she is in “the business.” Maybe the poster was thinking of Liza Minnelli’s sister, Lorna Luft, who is a talented singer.

I just thought it was powerful to see how quickly Rosie O’Donnell, that paragon of objectivity and virtue, swung into action to defend Babs. She convinced me. 😉

Why is it that these people think they have something to say and so many people actually listen? It’s worse than the guy who plays a doctor on tv and then starts giving real-world medical advice!

B. Streisand has a singing sister with an album too. I saw something about her on YouTube. Roslyn Kind I think it was.

I disagree. I think she is MUCH more attractive than her sister. Although I do agree with you about the talent part – Barbra has no talent to speak of.

Why did she come out of retirement again? Was it just in time for the elections?

nice nose
I have no problem with people objecting to Streisand’s politics and her foisting them on an audience. I wouldn’t like it if I paid good money and a performer had a long, drawn-out skit that I hated.

I don’t think denigrating her looks is very charitable or much of a Christian attitude.

I say kudos to her for keeping her nose and not undergoing plastic surgery like so many other celebrities. People literally risk their lives just to look good by doing all of this surgery, liposuction, breast implants, etc.

I really don’t think Jesus would advocate a nose job. He would appreciate a person for whom he or she is.

What are you saying? She has a right to free speech as long as she only talks to herself ??

No. She doesn’t have the right to use profanity in a public setting.

You have the right to free speech but not he right to be heard. You can say your point of view, but I don’t have to listen to it. I have the freedom to walk away or not show up at all. There is nothing you can do (legally) to make me listen to you.

You have the right to free speech but not the right to be heard.
