As if you on the opposing side do not play both sides. You keep arguing that it is not true that the majority of teen suicides are young homosexuals then try to say that homosexuals are more prone to suicide. They do attempt or even commit it my friend. It is because there are no visible representatives of those with SSA to keep them going. Instead they get the nonsense from the religious right that there is something wrong with them from the get go.
It’s not because people who plagued with a disorder don’t have others to urge them on in their disordered practice. That’s just silly. What we all have is the grace of Christ and the counsel of the Church. Reject them and we are all left to fend for ourselves.

We’re not talking about a practice. We’re talking about how someone feels inside. Instead of a crush on a girl he has a crush on a guy. Yet because he feels unable to share for fear of ridicule he closes up and does something drastic. This has got to stop. Unless of course it is the counsel of the Church that they should kill themselves rather than live with SSA. I am here to tell the young gentleman he is free to have a crush on anyone and not feel so guilty about it. He is still loved exactly as he is-no strings attached.

Nothing wrong with them from the get go. There is nothing wrong with me just for being SSA. I don’t require counseling and God loves me without exception.
I didn’t say there is anything *morally *wrong. I said that there is *something *wrong: it is an intrinsically disordered attraction. Your desires should not be as they in fact are. The same would be true of someone who had an attraction to non-human animals, or small children. It is intrinsically disordered.

And again there is nothing wrong. I am the way God intended me to be. I no longer struggle to fight it.

“For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the *natural function of the woman and burned in their **desire *toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error. And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper …].” Romans 1:25-28

You are exactly what God intended, in his infinite wisdom. That does not mean that your desires are what they ought to be. They are intrinsically disordered, and (as Paul says) “unnatural,” “degrading” and “indecent.” The desires themselves are no sin, to be sure, but they are not something to be proud of or content with.

Well I am proud of them and content with them.😛 I do not need your or anyone else’s counseling to correct them. I am doing fine.

The APA’s buckled under to political pressure over 30 years ago just as much of the rest of American Society has. Since morality has come to mean virtually nothing to many people then it is easy to dismiss the truth as coming from neanderthals (aka Catholics). I suppose you’ve been in conversations with homosexualists and with gay pride parade participants. If that is so I don’t believe that you are serious when you claim that such behavior does not demonstrate a mental disorder.

They removed it as a disorder based on the vote of plurality of those attending a convention. i wish the National Cancer Society would vote that cancer is no longer a disease-that could save a lot of lives…

Cancer is a detrimental disease, Bob. Same sex attraction is not and that is why they voted to take it off the list of disorders. The Church has evry right to say the actions or morally disordered but it has no authority on scientific findings. That is not its area.

Geez Louise, the way some people here think, one would be rushed off to a shrink or counsellor for even mentioning having same sex attraction. No need to tie up the system for something so inconsequential and unnecessary.

Given that the APA doesn’t consider it a mental disorder I don’t know why they would be trusted to help anyone. Yet, there are people who can help. Sometimes people are cured from the disorder. As I understand it many are not. It becomes a thorn in the flesh. I do honor anyone who has a strong attraction who seeks to remain loyal to God and resist the temptation to act on it. The problem is not by any means inconsequential.

No I haven’t I asked the question because I have no idea. From what I found, no one really know if being homosexual increases suicide risk for sure. I doubt we ever will, as it makes for bad politics. Therefore, there is no evidence that all this sensitive training is even needed.

If evidence every surfaced that homosexuals were at high risk for suicide, it would support labeling it a mental illness since killing oneself is considered abberant behavior.

It was not a scientific finding. They took it out of the DSM in response to pressure from gay activist groups who then turned around and argued it isn’t a disorder because it’s not in the DSM.

“when gay activists began to protest the designation of homosexuality as a pathology Spitzer brokered a compromise that eventually resulted in the removal of homosexuality from the DSM. Given the acrimony surrounding the subject, this was an impressive feat of nosological diplomacy”

There’s no plot to unveil. We’re not discontinuing the traditional families. We’re providing education for those who have felt ostracized in the past to not feel that way anymore. I really grow weary of those who feel this is a threat. It shows a basic insecurity.

Will you also be “providing education” in the public schools for those who are physically crippled? Are you “providing information” about the Jews, for they have been discriminated against for centuries? Are you “highlighting” famous Jewish Americans? I don’t think so. Most public schools don’t even mention the fact that Einstein was a Jew…simply because it isn’t important, there is neither time nor money for this & the atheists among us would not stand for it, they would claim that promoting a person because he is Jewish or Catholic, etc. is unconstitutional.

The public school system is not allowed to teach morality in any other area. They are not allowed to teach that abortion is wrong. They are not allowed to teach that one should acknowledge whatever God they worship in every endeavor.
This kind of “teaching” belongs to the parents…not to the public schools AND if they do “provide information” about famous people who were/are gay will it be COMPLET?. If, for instance, they “provide education” on the famous gay playwright, Oscar Wilde…will they mention that he was a Pederast who seduced under aged boys? Nope, it’s not going to work.

And there is no political agenda to reclassify it as a mental illness.

They don’t need to teach about Oscar Wilde being a pederast. As for your other points, we already do have sensitivity training for the Jewsih people. We teach about the Holocaust and hopefully teach against the KKK. Why should those with SSA be excluded?

If you want SSA to be labelled a mental illness you will have to give good scientific reasoning without quoting scripture. After all, if we just quote scripture you would think the earth is flat or the sun goes around the earth, neither of which is true. Psychology does not take a stand on whether or not homosexual behavior is morally correct or not. Therefore the Church should not be getting into science. They voted to take it off the list of mental disorders and I accept that.

Granted but I would supplement my children’s Catholic schooling with a respect for homosexuals as well.
Respect not tolerance. when we begin to blur the two is when we become lukewarm to the issue at hand–which is defending the truth about sexuality.

Teach our children to love and respect all but that homosexuality is a sin and wrong!

Sorry. I will teach my children what I want to teach them, be it tolerance as well as respect.

I smell fear,
As a heterosexual male who has had many occasions to interact with SSA individuals, I have to say that these threads largely discust me.
Do any of you think that SSA (homosexuality) is something new? If so, you only need to read a bit about the Kings and Queens of Europe.
This is the United States of America (secular nation), and no one should be trodden down.
If this is truly a sin…let the Lord God decide that.
John
