So atheism IS a religon!
It seems to be in Australia. Apparently the state of Victoria in Australia has a religious instruction period in its schools.
Professor Cahill also intends to approve a proposal by Muslim leaders to allow volunteers to teach religion in state primary schools.
“I think there’s a greater realisation that Australia’s emerging as a multi-faith society, which means the acceptance of non-Christian religions … there’s an increasing realisation that the notion of religion has expanded to include all kinds of spiritualities and associated world views, including atheist and humanist world views.”
theage.com.au/national/religion-in-schools-to-go-godfree-20081213-6xxs.html?page=2

But as Kaninchen noted, earlier, instruction by any faith group is voluntary:

There is a double standard here from your end; you call anything that opposes your viewpoint indoctrination, even when it is not required, but creationism in classrooms? No way! Of course that isn’t indoctrination.

Seriously though, ID is not science.

  1. Which god?
  2. They are right though: there IS NO EVIDENCE, at least not more for one diety than for another or any supernatural claim I make this very moment.
  3. It seems to me they are NOT TEACHING THERE IS NO GOD(s), but THERE IS NO EVIDENCE for there being one(some), which is a good stance.
Of course there is evidence for the existence of God. I have numerous books, easily obtainable from any Catholic bookshop or online bookseller, deatailing numerous miracles that not only cannot be explained by science but, by their nature, point to the God of Catholic belief.

I myself, have been part of a supernatural occurence which was only explained by the persons concerned having disobeyed God’s laws and dabbled in the occult. One of the other witnesses to this event was a police sergeant.

I am sick of people saying there is no proof for the existence of God. There is. Time and space limit me from detailing more, but just start an honest investigation.

As for someone on a Catholic forum seriously saying that humanists should be able to preach their atheistic religion in our schools - I find that incredible!

CWBetts;

Refer to the comment and note the context please.

Most modern humanists are Liberals and support abortion. Therfore, are enemies of God.

Why is the word liberal there? Being a liberal does not make one an enemy of God. Abortion does, but I am questioning the fact that you put in the conjunctive word ‘and’ in and so it seems you think that both liberalism AND abortion leads you away from God.
How?

My Windows XP software can’t prove that Bill Gates exists. I’m sure there is a small group of interconnected computers out there that “think” that they evolved from primitive diodes.

-Tim
Exactly. The same way neither Romeo or Juliet couldn’t prove Shakespeare existed!!!

Why are we quick to say religion should be taught in schools because of our right to free speech, yet when a group wants to teach humanism it’s INDOCTRINATION FROM THE PROPAGANDIST LIBERAL LEFTIST AGENDA?
This whole thing has been twisted.

Are you an Australian, then? After all, the thread is about Australia.

So, what have you got against the children of Atheist and Agnostic parents (or anybody else who wishes) - in Australia - having classes on ‘humanist applied ethics’?

Yep every religion has miracles that supposedly cant be explained  If the REAL scientists actually cared you wouldnt have any miracles.
I myself, have been part of a supernatural occurence which was only explained by the persons concerned having disobeyed God’s laws and dabbled in the occult. One of the other witnesses to this event was a police sergeant.
Hmm i guess if you’ve seen a miracle for yourself then theres no changing your mind, but thats not going to convince others.
I am sick of people saying there is no proof for the existence of God. There is. Time and space limit me from detailing more, but just start an honest investigation.
Iv never seen any evidence for a god at all.

I live in Victoria and im glad to see this happening, this is actually the first i’ve heard of it. Some people on this forum are saying there going to use experiments and science to prove god doesnt exist but thats just not possible. How can they use science to prove something undetectable doesnt exist? Its like saying theres and invisible cat on jupiter use science to prove it doesnt exist. You cant. Thats something religion clings to, no matter how advanced science is it’ll never be able to prove allah, jesus or buddah dont exist, one of the stupidest arguments religion has and it makes me laugh everytime i hear it.😃

CAF is not inherently a ‘Catholic forum’. It is not run by the church. Likewise it is not exclusively for catholics. The only rules we have to adhere to are the forum rules.
Of course a persons belief (or lack thereof) seems only to be a hindrance to many people on this forum if the person is in disagreement with the ‘enlightened’.

Yeah, tha’ts the problem with the burden of proof*. It’s not MY job to prove YOUR god is real/not real. You made a claim, you prove it.

Can you provide some examples?
Or am I getting of topic again?

Can I ask on what happened?
The same way neither Romeo or Juliet couldn’t prove Shakespeare existed!!!”
Um… occurring to the script, they didn’t even have to. You do know those two are fictional, right?
Lol Spiderman can’t prove Stan Lee exists! Oh boy…

& You’re in support of taking away the free will in decision making that God has given people so they can live their lives as they see fit, even though he might not approve. They will be the ones punished for their acts, you are not the one who is going to face their retribution, why are you interfering with their choices?

If there would be ANY PROOF AT ALL, especially for YOUR GOD, then there wouldn’t be so many different religions.

What’s the point of being on a forum where everyone agrees with you. No fun.

LIberalism generally supports abortion. Among other anti God actions, things, beliefs, practices, etc.

Well depending. If it is a public school, then both or neither should be taught. But the fact is is that the leftist humanist agenda is being taught/pushed, where teaching about religion, is a “violation of Church and State” to the leftists. For a group that claims to be soooo tolerant of other people/beliefs, they sure put up a big fight against religion. Basically because religion teaches against abortion and gay marriage, and sets rules for a society to live by, Liberalism does the same thing, only just the opposite.

If atheist and agnostic parents want their children to be taught humanist perspectives what’s the problem? It’s an alternative, it’s not compulsory.
Public schools should not be promoting atheism.

Peace,
Ed

For primary school students in the Australian state of Victoria, the humanist indoctrination of state courses is no longer a subtle matter.
“Victorian state primary school students will soon be able to take religious education classes which teach there is no evidence God exists,” the Australian Associated Press report begins. The new course, developed by the Humanist Society of Victoria, is designed to counter religious instruction courses, both of which students can opt out of through parent intervention.
The courses will be taught by “accredited volunteers” who will presumably proclaim the humanist doctrine that says ethics have “no necessary connection with religion.”

 But God forbid we teach Intelligent Design or Creationism to prove there is a God in Religious classes… Link and text originally found from here:

Any god that could be proven would by definition be a false idol, according to a Christians believe in God. Proving the being upon which all of existence is contingent upon is an impossible task. It is like assuming a stickman on an two-dimensional page of paper
would have the wherewithal to prove a third and a fourth dimension.

Science can reduce all of the universe into a singularity of the beginning of space and time. Anything beyond is by definition outside of the realm of scientific method.Science too is finite and can tell us no more, though a such a singularity begs the questions of from whence and why and how from the void of a singularity the world became. Answers to the great mystery of why the singularity are outside of the realm of science and measurement. The scientific method is ill-defined at defining a world that is as measureless as the singularity.

Like on the question fo values, science can say nothing.

So in the end, if we are driven to the humble realization that we are a mystery to ourselves, that a finite understanding can never measure the infinite, why not then, instead of mystery, we celebrate Mystery? Pragmatically speaking, to choose to trust in the Mystery, to valuate the mystery, to celebrate and praise the mystery of our source and our end-this is the better choice, the sounder choice even.

And the thing is, all ethics are ultimately derived from such a valuation.God is the fundamental grounds upon which an absolute worth to our humanity can be based. A humanism without a good God as a purposeful creator in the end is built on a foundation of sand. To value our humanity becomes a question of opinion, relative to the shifting norms of society, and not a bedrock belief that can only come from a belief that we were created in the image of goodness.

The children of atheist and agnostic parents shouldn’t be exposed to ethical questions then? The alternative is that they would get no formal exposure at all - they won’t be going to the ‘Christianity’ option.

Public schools should not be promoting atheism.
I agree this is a good idea for the US. But since the state of Victoria, Australia has a religious instruction period in their public schools and since various religious denominations are allowed to come in and teach what they want, why not allow the atheists to do the same?

Nope. Liberalism is a philosophy first founded by John Locke and Jeremy Bentham.
There are many conservatives who are pro choice.

Your inclusion of the word liberal indicates that you think being pro conservative is as important as being pro life.
