Sublime morality of marriage with a young girl

Remember he is far above kings, he is the so called prophet of god. You cant even compare to pope marrying a 9 year old girl coz pope is not prophet. Muhammed was not only [wed to a young girl], he also murdered his enemies and caused his associates to murder to prove their loyalty to him. He also demamded 20% of all booty taken in his conquests. If one were to write a book about his life and didnt know who it was being written about, one would come away with the idea that this was some sort of scoundrel.

I am not participating in this discussion, nor do I intend to. I do understand that there are no place for derogatory comments in these discussions, but I don’t understand why one would consider the term pedophelia innapropriate to a thread discussing the fact that a 53 yr. old man had sex with a 9 yr. old girl. Isn’t this the definition of pedophelia?

If the thread were discussing a man marrying another man, I guess it would be innapropriate to use the word homosexual?

Good point Ana. I think the problem is not about appropriate. Its all merely about charity and pedophila charges against Muhammad considered uncharitable although the muslims themselves confirm he had sex to a 9 year old girl. If its all about semantics, we’ll use another term instead of pedophile… Maybe a child lover or a child brides although like you said, isnt it a pedophilia when old man marrying little girl…

A few points:

1. The earlier a woman in a given society is married, the younger she will die, statistically speaking. For every year under 20 she is at marriage, she loses three years of life expectancy. There are many reasons, and biology is part of it.
2. Even with estrogenic chemicals in our food and environment now, women reach full sexual maturity at 23. They become fertile in a veryslight degree in their early teens. these are averages, but the odds of a girl of 9 being fully sexually mature before the Industrial Age are pretty much nonexistent, and he odds of her being even marginally fertile are extremely small.
3. The anciany Jewish age of consent, according to all the scholars i have found was not three! It was sometimes 12, sometimes 12 and a half, and sometimes 13, depending on circumstances, and that was for betrothal, which lasted a year. Men were expected to marry in their teens.
4. The physical damage to a 9-year-old girl from “consummating” her “marriage” to an adult might actually make her sterile for life, or in some cases kill her. The World Health Organization has been fighting the practice of child marriage for that reason.
5. In the rare (but increasing) cases of extreme precocious puberty, development is very uneven. A girl may menstruate, then years later release ripe eggs, then years later have a uterus strong enough to carry to term, then years later have the skeletal and muscular strength to carry a full-term child without medical intervention. Part of the reason for the increase in early births is that babies who would once have been miscarried at enormous risk to the mother’s life can be saved by C-section and long-term intensive care now. In the past, that wasn’t possible.
   Therefore, having “intercourse” with a child of nine is not merely exploitation, it could also be seen as attempted homicide or at least gross disregard for life. And it’s not part of the Judeo-Christian way of life and pribably never was.
