But that shouldn’t hold up the confirmation of Judge Kavanaugh
Perhaps. I suppose that witnessesare asked to testify under threat in many cases. But the investigation of the the new information as part of the background check should.
There isn’t any new information. They received the letter, included it in the file. Done.

Nothing but a delaying tactic. Dems ought to admit it, but of course they won’t. Investigation isn’t the point, and your post proves it. Delay is the point.

Threats against Ford, if they’re real, have nothing to do with Kavanaugh’s fitness for office.

Per a story posted here, apparently, the FBI has already said twice, they are refusing to investigate this matter.

Site the police report
No need. She has given her story publicly. But you know that.
And you know that filing a complaint is not a sine qua non of the existence of an allegation. And you know that FBI background checks are not limited to matters for which charges have been filed. So enough.

Interesting thread. I am dismayed to see “me too people” presented as bad in some way.

I don’t know how to use the quote functions on this site yet, but Ridgerunner wrote:

"I meant “Ms. Ford” in the sense of her as an issue. Feinstein bears significantly more of the blame than Ms. Ford. Ford appears to be a “me too” person, hat and all. She’s a professor at a liberal institution, and she has reason to resent Kavanaugh’s family. That isn’t an “ad hominem”

I believe Ms. Ford showed up at some of the “me too” protests. Is that wrong to mention? The rest seems to be more facts about her, I gather she is a prof at a liberal institution and yes, in her family history, the mother of Kavanaugh was a judge who was in a foreclosure hearing with her family.

Anyway, I think we are suppose to limit our posts, so no more for me for awhile. No one is suppose to dominate the conversation with charity for all.

It’s implied that being a “me too person” is bad in some way.

The only way it’s bad that I can think of, is having to endure sexual abuse or assault. It’s not a club anyone wants to be a member of.

Dr. Ford actually told others years ago, which has been confirmed. Since sexual assaults are typically not done in front of an audience, and since the only other person in the room was allegedly a friend of Kavanaugh’s, she might have considered her case hopeless whereas to not file charges. This is not at all unusual in such cases.

So, why now? Don’t know for sure but my guess is that if something like that happened to you, heaven forbid, and then you saw that same individual who assaulted you being elevated to the highest court in the land that often deals with crime, might you not maybe be upset enough to think “Enough!” and break your silence?

Let’s look at this from another perspective. Both Hatch and Grassely claimed in the Anita Hill case that it was important for FBI to get involved into Hill’s accusations, why are these two singing a different tune now? And why is it that the accuser wants the investigation but Kavanaugh doesn’t? If I’m innocent, especially trying to avoid any cloud that might hang over my head if I’m approved, then why wouldn’t I want such an investigation to try and prove that there’s nothing to confirm the accusation?

And why the rush? The Senate Republicans sure weren’t in any rush with Obama’s Garland’s nomination? Also, it’s not like Trump’s term is almost over.

I guess the question is “What’s more important: that we rush through this SCOTUS confirmation or that we get this possible criminal case right about a judge who might have a lifetime position that affects the whole country?”.

Indirectly they do. The fact of these threats answers the question “Why did she hesitate to come forward?” which has been used to throw doubt on her claim. The less doubt one has of her claim the more one considers that perhaps Kavanaugh might not be fit for this particular job.

Not so.
2017 if that is years ago and it is not with me. <— And even this may have fallen through.

Please cite a link if one is going to say something of this nature.

Only other person in the room? It has varied from 2 to 4.

Her story is not credible, this is just to prevent the confirmation of Kavanaugh.

She didn’t have death threats when she gave it to Feinstein back in June and (reportedly) asked Feinstein not to release it. So her reason for telling Feinstein not to release it had nothing to do with any death threats allegedly received later.

There is no way to know where these threats are coming from. Keith Ellison’s accuser claims threats as well.

It is because she understood, being the smart woman that she it, that there may very well be such threats, and the threats just prove her fear was justified.
