Poll done this month by Ipsos-Reid, for Reuters says Independents are opposed to the mandate 73%

Sooooo, we’re all going to be subject to a new tax if we can’t afford the coverage that is going to cost $1300 more per person due to Obamacare. The Church will be forced to pay for abortifacients and worse. Taxes are raised during a recession. The members of the middle class who are employers are going to pay a lot more for their employees’ health coverage than we do now, but with more Obama mandated cost increases coming in 2013 and after. The deficit is going to keep going up. And Obama is going to represent this as a vindication of his whole program and his plans, which may allow him to whittle that 73% down.

Just guessing, now, I would say we’re in a heap of trouble every way there is to be in trouble.

And if you don’t pay your tax it goes to the IRS which can add interest to the non payment and can put you in prison when all else fails.

Ah…put in prison one gets free health care.

And I praise all of you who saw Obama for what he was in 2008.👍

And for the rest of you who voted for him and will again do the same there are no words. 🤷
Amazing, isn’t it, that so many don’t see the full signifcance! And Heritage Foundation is already spouting that “we will still fight and repeal this…” get serious!

I, for one, think that this is a great decision. The SCOTUS invalidated the use of the commerce clause as justification for the FEDGOV to do as they will. That is huge (and is not being reported, btw)

Construing the Commerce Clause to permit Congress to regulate individuals precisely because they are doing nothing would open a new and potentially vast domain to congressional authority. Congress already possesses expansive power to regulate what people do. Upholding the Affordable Care Act under the Commerce Clause would give Congress the same license to regulate what people do not do. The Framers knew the difference between doing something and doing nothing. They gave Congress the power to regulate commerce, not to compel it. Ignoring that distinction would undermine the principle that the Federal Government is a government of limited and enumerated powers. The individual mandate thus cannot be sustained under Congress’s power to “regulate Commerce.”

Also, another tremendous part of the decision is that the court invalidated the Medicaid expansion.

Yes, the court upheld the mandate… .as a tax…but, when employers start to drop coverage for their folks and others start laying off people, that will be quickly fixed. Many folks are already resentful because of what has happened to their premiums due to Obamacare. When the other shoe drops, it will be almost impossible, politically, to support it.

For immediate purposes, I fully grant that the decision is pretty grim. But there are some little gems in there that need to be considered.
January 22, 2013…

“And we will enact legislation imposing a tax upon all religious-affiliated institutions which do not provide ‘reproductive services’”.

Discuss.

Obama lied and said it wasn’t a tax. The law was written as a tax and therefore legal.

It was all a farce and deception from the beginning.

The interesting thing is, when you poll people on the individual parts of the law-like being unable to be denied for per-existing conditions and being able to keep your kids on your insurance until they are 26 more people approve of it. If the pollster says "do you like “Obamacare” they say no-not understanding that the things they like ARE parts of it.

.
Except many of the people that are “for it” think it means they will get free health insurance. I have three people in my office mad at me because “I won’t sign the company up for the free health insurance under Obamacare”.

Nonsense. Obama now gets to say that what he did was constitutional all along, and that Romney and the Republicans were wrong.

I realize people want to find a silver lining in this, yet there just is not one.
You mean he can start bragging that the individual mandate that he said was a REPUBLICAN idea was constitutional?

Romney got $300000 in online donations in the first hour after the Supreme Court decision. Do not tell me this does not help Romney.

It is perfect? FAR from it. So let’s improve it, not just stand with our collective arms folded, stomping our feet and yelling NO!! Let’s hope that the Congress actually does it’s job and works on something BETTER instead of working just for a repeal so they can say they “beat Obama”. They win, but the people lose.
The people have already lost, especially the middle/working class.

People like free goodies. This is news?

Do you like free ice cream? Do you think the government should take over the ice cream industry in order to provide free ice cream?

Now that the SC has punted on striking this down it will be up to the political process to repeal this monstrosity. A loss for America but an advantage to Romney who is now essential to that.

I suspect Obama will probably leave out that it is a tax in future speeches on ObamaCare, because it shows him to be a hypocrite. He said in an interview in 2009 that it was not a tax. ObamaCare will raise taxes by $500 billion. Obama will not be able to ignore it when he debates Romney.

Most grown ups realize nothing of value is free in society. Either you or someone else will pay for it.

A temporary loss. Electing Romney is now a must. This thing will be repealed.

Prepare my friends, prepare. The precedent that this sets opens up so many possibilities for what the government can legally force people to do. There is a serious persecution coming against the Church and many other people of faith besides Catholics. Pray, study Scripture, read the Saints, be faithful to the Sacraments, prepare for what is coming, and lift up your hearts to the Lord that we may stand fast and true.
Yeah…next thing you know they’ll require us to buy broccoli.

The government has had this kind of power for a long time, we GAVE it to them. People tried to warn us, but nobody wanted to hear it because they liked the party in power then. The problem is, once you give it to the people you like, you open up the door for people you don’t like to use that same power.

SCOTUS Blog: ‘Apologies - you CAN’T refuse to pay the tax; typo. The only effect of not complying with the mandate is that you pay the tax’
What an ironic situation!

If, as a Catholic employer, you refuse to provide the mandated contraceptive/abortifacient coverage, you get fined, uh, “taxed”.

What do they call that in Islam? “Jizrah”; the special tax paid by “infidels”? I guess a whole lot of us are “infidels” now, from the perspective of the Obama religion of death.

Republicans need to hammer home that this is the biggest tax hike in US history and Obama lied to us. The Supreme Court was all unnecessary because it was a tax and government can tax at it’s will.

The health care system in this country really did need changing, and still does. Absolutely.

What these people are “for” is that they will be able to keep their children on til they are 26 *with no increase in cost, *which will not happen. There *will *be an increase…

Second, immediate coverage for pre-existing conditions will raise insurance premiums a lot. Moreover, people who don’t have insurance will be able to wait and pay the penalty tax, and then get immediate coverage… huge problem. People’s policy costs will skyrocket each year…

Did the Supreme Court not JUST say that in ord to have that coverage it was a tax that everyone must pay??? You can’t have it both ways-it’s not free and a tax on everyone at the same time.

And repeal is wrong…it is REPAIR we need.

Constitutionally does mean good law or good policy. When Independents here of the increased taxes they are not go running to Obama just because he says his law has been vindicated in the Supreme Court. It has not in the court of public opinion.
