Supreme Court Ruling on Health Care

So then Reagan only did not obstruct the Democrat Congress who necessarily passed the laws? I’m uncomfortable with the whole concept that any president creates jobs. That outlook gives the government far more power and credit than it has or should have. Also jobs are not the same as wealth. There are plenty of make work jobs even in our current economy. Debt increased and America consumed more during and since the Reagan years but neither are measures of success when productivity does not increase but rather of systemic failure.
It’s political shorthand. Lower taxes=more money in a business owner’s pocket=he is more willing to take risk and grow his business=will have to hire more workers=more jobs
😉

Obama Health Law Ruling

Would somebody explain to a foreigner what is the fuss about ?
And why so many people here are against Obama Law?
Isn’t it going to giving health care for the needed?
Am I missing something?

Yeah welfare is wonderful until the well dries up and guess what pal…the well is drying up fast.

So you continue to live in your fantasyland, I’m gonna laugh hard when Reality comes a knockin’ 👍
You are in the mythical land of the welfare queen, and while it’s really fun to believe that everyone in welfare is a lazy slob driving a big new Caddy and getting filet mignon with food stamps-there is NO proof of it. Every case that is brought up to support that theory only shows how the system works by busting them.

It’s easy to demonize the poor that way, because then you can convince yourself it will never happen to you. When you actually get out there and find out who really is getting assistance and find out they are one lost job or one serious accident or illness away from where you sit now-it’s a little scary.

I’m thinking the shareholders and the CEO of United Heathcare (who are probably drinking some pretty pricey stuff about now) would be surprised to find that out.

As I said, great bumper sticker, but not factual. Maybe if you just keep repeating it people will believe it.
I wouldn’t bet on that. Apparently, stocks of health insurance companies have been nosediving.

Please explain how a law that gives millions of more dollars to private insurance companies is communist.
Actually most of them are publically-traded (owned). But your point is valid, though many say that it’s more corporatism than private-money capitalism.

Had the Congress, SCOTUS, and Presidency during the Bush years. I didn’t notice any change. In fact the largest expansion of government other than Obamacare happened under Bush II the prescription drug medicare act.
Um, yeah, the Medicare act was under a Democrat Congress, but keep spreading the lie. It worked in 2008, see if it works again.

Please show us all how well that has worked. I am still waiting to see the tremendous job growth from the tax cuts.

Opinions are one thing, but let’s not get into falsehoods. This is NOT a massive tax increase, never mind the “biggest in history”.

The nonpartisan/conservative fact checker Politifact has labeled this charge against the ACA “False” politifact.com/florida/statements/2011/feb/14/rick-scott/rick-scott-says-health-care-bill-biggest-tax-incre/

The tax is only applied if you refuse to have health insurance when you can afford it. It equals either $695 or 2.5% of household income for those, unless you are poor and therefore exempt.

Please note, this increase is LESS than the increase the Republicans would have created when they tried to block payroll tax exemption last year, which would have added 3.1% to the tax and cost families $1,500 a year on average.

No more talk matters–the SC has ruled. Period.

This makes Obama an absolute nobrainer to win relection. Obama now can use this ruling as support for everything he has done, including HHS Mandate.

I believe, and have for sometime, that we are under chastisement.
I tend to agree with you, but God is still sovereign! Check out today’s reading from 2nd Kings. I’ve already said how apropos that this ruling came today while we hear at Mass how Babylon seized the temple. From a spiritual standpoint, I would say this had to be. Have you seen countless hearts in repentance for the sins of this nation, or witnessed conversion among the dissidents? This is the beginning of our own exile and captivity - in more ways than one.

Sept. 2009

President Obama: “No, but — but, George, you — you can’t just make up that language and decide that that’s called a tax increase.”

Later…

President Obama: "My critics say everything is a tax increase. My critics say that I’m taking over every sector of the economy. You know that. Look, we can have a legitimate debate about whether or not we’re going to have an individual mandate or not, but…

George Stephanopoulos: “But you reject that it’s a tax increase?”

President Obama: “I absolutely reject that notion.”

😦

So once again you’ve established you do not live in reality and revel in your delusion.

It IS factual because that is the definition…oh who am I kidding facts don’t matter to you, I might as well be talking to a brick wall.
:

You have learned well grasshopper…you have absorbed all the talking points and can regurgitate them on command.

Read the Bishops statement and you will see where I stand. Now, it’s long and has big words and won’t fit on a bumper sticker, but i think you can get it if you try.

I am waiting for the first state to secede over this nonsense so I can move there.

Over the top, IMHO.

ObamaCare is one-size-fits-all. RomneyCare was created for Massachusetts and Romney has said there are things he would change. RomneyCare did not raise taxes, ObamaCare raises taxes by $500 billion.
Bush paid for Medicare Part D without raising taxes. Too bad he also put the country into more debt, on the order of $500 billion coincidentally enough.

Agree, however, the system is near a breaking point too. At least in my state, it’s pretty bad. I’ve had to go on WIC for my pregnancies (I have individual insurance but maternity wasn’t covered) and well, my doctor no longer accepts medicaid, and no ob/gyn out of the hospital closest to me nor out of the hospital that my drs are out of (30 minute drive away) accept medicaid (guess they prefer to have less patients who can pay than to sit and wait for the state to come through with their I.O.U.s). The system is broke at all levels. And greed is the root of it all no matter what side of any issue you’re discussing. We need to find some honest people to lead, but then again, if they had to get to the honest point by learning the hard way, our media would eat them alive.

Today’s ruling, apart from that it could help Romney which looks like it is already doing with his donations; is that the mandate was not established as constitutional under the Commerce clause. Now that it has been labelled as a tax, people will think tax increases, and that will not help Obama.

Also I have heard that Robert’s opinion might have opened a big door for the Catholic Church to get rid of the HHS regulation

Health care in the US is very expensive because people have had insurance to cover it so no one looks at the cost. In one way, this is good, because we have been able to affford to research many new treatments and drugs, but the FDA testing for approval costs millions, if not in the billion-dollar range, so that’s all expensive.

Rather than look at *why *health care is so expensive, the federal governemnt decided to jump in with some very complex rules which will only increase the costs. It is now mandated that people buy health insurance or pay a fine tax, so people who have been unable to afford health insurance will now remain unable to afford it, and have to pay the government for the “privelege” of being unable to afford it.

And all this to cover up what is going to happen to health care over the next 30 years as the Baby Boomers retire–the government would have been unable to provide Medicare, which people have been paying into for decades.

Europe too will be facing similar problems as theiir population ages…
