I thought Obama said he wouldn’t raise taxes but the SC ruled this is a tax.

Epic Fail.

Cardinal Dolan has to be losing his mind right now. This is only the beginning, November can’t come any sooner. All people of Faith that truly believe in Gods Words and the fundamental belief in sanctity of Life should take heed to this and stop sitting on the side lines and let there voice be heard. Obama is a socialist and I always remember these word, A government so quick to give you everything can just as quick take everything away!

It just occured to me that the part of the Medicaid issue being struck down, according to my understanding, gives states the right to opt out. That will leave millions of working poor unable to sign up for medicaid and they will be required to buy their own insurance.

If those people realize how much this is going to cost them, it could likely cost Obama A LOT of votes come November. This is a very serious mess for the working class.

Are you dizzy from spinning?

You threw in a caveat about ā€œjust makes senseā€ which doesn’t change the fact that a tax increase would occur. Sense depends on the person.

You parsed his words (income tax and capital gains tax) when he never said anything about them. Obama, 2008 - ā€œIf you are a family making less than $250,000 a year, you will not see your taxes go up.ā€

And then you use doublespeak and say ā€œeven though they called it a tax, it is really a penalty.ā€

All around sad. You can pretend to be Obama, but you aren’t. those are his words, and despite you acrobatic attempts to defend everything he does, this is a pretty clear case of him being wrong.

Door 1 - If the fine is a penalty, it is illegal.

Door 2 - If it is a tax, it is a tax increase.

Pick a door.
No more talk matters–the SC has ruled. Period.

This makes Obama an absolute nobrainer to win relection. Obama now can use this ruling as support for everything he has done, including HHS Mandate.

I believe, and have for sometime, that we are under chastisement.

That part of the law wasn’t in question this time around.
That was not part of this case. The last time the HHS mandate appeared in court, the government said that there was no sense litigating it until after the law came into effect.
Oh okay. Thanks everyone. When will the court judge on the contraceptive mandate then?

That said, I am really sad and angered that Obamacare wasn’t struck down.

Really? I don’t recall there being anything about abortion in the ACA.
Obama+healthcare does not automatically equal abortions!
It is pretty obvious to the rest of us - anything Obama endorses that could be seen as an aid to his reelection is bad for the unborn. Unless you somehow believe he is good for the unborn?

Prepare my friends, prepare. The precedent that this sets opens up so many possibilities for what the government can legally force people to do. There is a serious persecution coming against the Church and many other people of faith besides Catholics. Pray, study Scripture, read the Saints, be faithful to the Sacraments, prepare for what is coming, and lift up your hearts to the Lord that we may stand fast and true.

Here is another thing to worry about…

What other hidden goodies are in the thousand page monstrosity of a bill that the supreme court just ruled to be constitutional?

I am absolutely sickened by this:(. This law further erodes the sanctity of life because government is in charge of who gets care and who does not Unfortunately, I am in one of the vulnerable groups. Now I have to worry about how much care I will get in future years just because I was born with special needs:mad:.

How is the requirement to buy health insurance a tax hike? I don’t understand your point.
The penalty if you don’t pay is considered to be a tax for not having insurance. So all that will probably happen is that all the folks who were unable to afford to buy insurance before will now still be unable to afford to buy insurance, but they will have to pay a tax for not buying insurance.

Thanks, Democrats, for looking out for the little guys!

I simply made the point that this would be a tax increase. The USSC agrees - that’s all. Saying ā€œno more talk mattersā€ in this context doesn’t even make sense.

The USSC ruled on the mandate as a tax.

I don’t recall them ruling who the next President is - did I miss that.

You may not be depressed, but the rest of us are after reading your defeatist attitude.

Should we assume you’ll stop praying about the election and not vote, since it is already over?

When did any poll inidicate the number issue for reelection was Obamacare?

Again, this could help or hinder either candiate, but stating your dour opinion as a non-negotiable is silly.

i guess church run/affiliated groups could just drop insurance coverage all together, let the employees buy their own.

Faith Community and Pro-Life Leaders Disappointed in Supreme Court’s Ruling on Obamacare

RGA Statement on Supreme Court Decision
Republican Governors Association Chairman Bob McDonnell issued the following statement regarding the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act:
ā€œToday’s ruling crystallizes all that’s at stake in November’s election. The only way to stop Barack Obama’s budget-busting health care takeover is by electing a new president.
Barack Obama’s health care takeover encapsulates his Presidency: Obamacare increases taxes, grows the size of government and puts bureaucrats over patients while doing nothing to improve the economy.
It’s never been more important that we elect a President who understands the marketplace and will make job creation his top priority. By replacing Barack Obama with Mitt Romney, we will not only stop the federal government’s healthcare takeover, but will also take a giant step towards a full economic recovery.ā€

Supreme Court saves Obamacare: now it’s up to Mitt Romney to kill it in November
For the other big winner of today is Mitt Romney. If Obamacare had been struck down completely by the Court, Romney would have no big issue with which to galvanise conservatives in November. But hatred for the mandate is so hot on the Right (and among a number of independents) that he now has an issue to really hit Obama with. Moreover, by redefining it as a tax the Court has basically sent a warning to many Americans that their tax bill is about to go up. While voters who stand to benefit from Obamacare will doubtless stick with the President in November, others will possibly resent the new costs. Times are tough. Many people can’t afford this.
In total, this is a good day for Obama but it might not deliver the long term political bump that his administration so desperately needs. This news must be balanced out with bad jobs figures and a general feeling that the country isn’t moving in the right direction. Meanwhile, the message to all those folks in the Tea Party is plain. If they really hate Obamacare, they can’t afford to sit out the election just because they don’t like that Massachusetts moderate, Mitt Romney. If conservatives want this law repealed they’re going to need a Republican President and a Republican Senate to do so. For them, the moral necessity for a Romney win has just grown stronger

Is there any limit to the power of taxation other than political process? We shall see.

I don’t much care if you like my opinion or not. I remain with what I said, I believe this makes Obama a nobrainer and I believe much of what we see today is part of an allowed chastisement. I wondered all along what ā€œeventā€ would help put Obama back on the ā€œlikely to winā€ position–this SC ruling tossed him way above Romney. IMO.

I am not a defeatist–I am a realist. I also might be wrong, and hope and pray I am.
