Supreme Court Ruling on Same Sex Marriage

Honestly, I dont think there will ever be a time where two married homosexuals can embrace each other in public without passerbys shaking their heads in disapproval. It will never be equal to a marriage between a man and woman. Ever.

…And on the bright side, when a conservative supreme court reverses this ruling in the future, that could open the door in reversing other rulings from the past.

Change can happen… Things ought to be normal.

…The left has taken advantage. .

As the old saying goes, “Whatever floats your bus.” 😃

…and will, as Ben Carson put it, continue to do so until it meets resistance.

In reality, if you don’t stand up for what you believe in at the time when it is relevant, it is no good hoping for some mysterious reversal in the future, the ground is taken, and magical thinking will not take it back.

Be it civil liberties, personal dignity, the importance of the family, the sanctity of life, the Judeo-Christian basis of our morality in western democracies or anything else - as long as people will stand by and watch it taken down brick by brick, that is what will be done. The people looking to deconstruct these things are not going to be limited voluntarily, the wounds will just get deeper, more horrendous and be done with less mercy over time.

I think not reacting at all is more common. Disapproval is not a safe reaction in regard to the thought police.

That is because “same sex marriage” doesn’t exist in reality. It might be legal, but it isn’t a marriage, nor can it ever be. Someone suggested the term “rainbow marriage” be used. I suppose that is a good idea. The word “marriage” is in there, but since the term “same sex” is in there too to define what it really is, “rainbow marriage” is about as good a term as any I suppose.

At work, when talking politics, I always say what a load of baloney SSM is. I haven’t had a person openly disagree with me yet. 👍

…Just spreading the word using my freedom of speech. I won’t stop.

I suspect there is more agreement with you than is often recognized by the molders of society. You are fortunate, though, because the tolerati will often resort to much more than mere disagreement.

As long as the US reminds high in the Charity Giving Index, I have hope. I believe charity to be a Christian value.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Giving_Index

In some ways, we’ve been too complacent, compare that to places where Christians live under very stressful conditions like Nigeria.

Could what the state provides be called a civil union and what the Church provides be called the Sacrament of Matrimony?
This is what was proposed by the Catholic Church, The LBG whatever lobbies would not accept that.

This. There has been an ever increasing open hostility toward Christians in the United States in recent years. I fear that that will only increase and I fear even crime and violence will become totally acceptable toward us since we oppose the new normal and in the minds of the “love wins” crowd, we are the ones in the wrong. I don’t expect to be protected by anyone. I can’t help but think about recent events where crime and violence were seen as justified protesting and nothing was done to stop it. So, I fear for the coming days and years. It is my children that I worry for most… I am also sad for America, the entire nation. I am so sad at all the loss, for what once was a beautiful and noble land and nation. All seems lost.

We cannot be so busy defending the truth, as important as that is, or weeping for our nation, as understandable as that is, that we forget to evangelize.

Consider the situation between Our Lord and the Samaritan woman at the well. Read the dialogue. He didn’t agree with a thing she said. He didn’t approve of her living situation. Yet he was unfailingly kind to her and treated her with dignity. When he told the story of the Prodigal Son, the father in the story did not go chasing after his son, but he was always on the lookout for the son to return. He wanted the son who had remained in the fields to welcome the family member that had literally squandered half of the family fortune.

One of the things the progressives like to talk about that is right on the button is seeking the third way. It is turning the other cheek, rather than running or fighting. It is going the extra mile and yet still answering unfair condemnation with “If I have spoken wrongly, testify to the wrong; but if I have spoken rightly, why do you strike me?” (John 18:23)

Like Roe v. Wade, the Obergefell v. Hodges decision is going to challenge Christians to find the third way–that is, to neither capitulate to a false re-definition of what is right and what is wrong and yet not letting the decision sway them from going out into the world speaking the truth with compassion and mercy. We can’t let the wrongness of this decision goad us into an uncharitable stance towards those who are wrongheaded or who have been misguided on this subject. We have to remain faithful to the Gospel, and the Gospel demands both that we speak the truth and that we treat fellow sinners in a way that is in their eternal best interest and our own.

We weren’t sent into this world or called to baptism to lie in the shade on a bed of violets. We labor in a vale of tears. The vineyard can be hot and dusty and the work is real work. Yet those of us called to work are in a better way than those who wait in the square with no employment. We are not slaves in the vineyard we work, but sons and daughters doing work that will uncover in each of us the image of our Father that we were fashioned to glorify forever.

Good point…why does it turn my stomach when I see 2 guys kissing each other on the lips? 😛

It ain’t Natural!

Your post is full of wisdom and truth and I thank you for it. We are called to be light in this dark world of sin and suffering and we are also called to hope, but we are certainly called to witness for His Truth and His Church. I have read your post a couple of times now. I shall do so again and maybe again in coming days. Now, though, perhaps I need to find a way to stop mourning so the loss of our nation. This battle is lost, but the war rages on and I shall try to serve Him and His Church, I hope to be a worthy witness for Him, to be gentle and charitable but truthful. I am not brave and I do not like confrontation at all, nor am I articulate or well spoken. I am also very, very weary. But, we are called to evangelize. Prayer is my help. God help us. God save us. God be with us.

We can evangelize but each individual person accepts or rejects God and God saves whom he will. You can only do what you can do. Please don’t take the weakness and sin of others so personally or so hard! You’ll be all right. You didn’t make this happen. You’re still in the same place you were before.

Perhaps try a break from social media for awhile. A day or two. Just do stuff you like to do. You’ll come back nice and energized. 🙂 Good is still all around you.

Easy to say and possibly difficult to do, but don’t be discouraged. The recent events have had a positive effect on me as they’ve spurred me on to seek solace in the Gospels and amp up my prayer life.

Remember, Christ never said that others would be irritated or annoyed by our beliefs and find them “kinda weird”. He flat out said we will be HATED. Did this cause the apostles and early Christians to lament when they were beaten and martyred? As hard as it may seem to us, they REJOICED! Why? They knew by being hated that they were on the right side! They were following the path to enter through the NARROW gate!

I certainly can’t say that the recent events don’t bother or concern me; they do. * However, I also have to say that I believe this is an exciting time to be Catholic. Yes, you heard me correctly.* An exciting time to be Catholic. An easy time? A comfortable time? A safe time? No. And it will get worse in that regard. I hold my head up high through this. I go to confession regularly and have a joy in my heart. “Do not fear those that can harm the body. I will be with you to deliver you says the Lord”. God has an all loving plan for us no matter what this world brings.

I am personally powerless against the devil and this world in my weakness and my sin . But Christ is my savior. I know whose side I have chosen to be on; so whatever the world may rush at me with I say: “Bring it.” In the Communion of Saints, remember that we are the Church Militant. There is a battle. However, what I think we often lose sight of is the fact that Christ has already won the battle; we have to choose what side we’re on and we’re given the free will to do so.

Courage and the peace of Jesus be with you!

ChrisL
