I absolutely do not condone any of it. The ignorance of many of those so called died in the wool fundamentalists is sickening I know.
Ditto. šŸ™‚
But the way Protestants in general are said to be constantly ignorant of the Catholic faith and the only reason why they are not Catholic is bogus as well. True in some instances but certainly not all.
I think that much of it is due to the fact that many do not know much about the beliefs of the others. There is ignorance on both sides of the street. Further…some of the problem is that there are so many different denominations in the Protestant realm, that it is hard to know and understand all of them.

For instance…in my own case…I have yet to have anyone actually make clear the difference between Baptists, Southern Baptists, and Free Will Baptists.

Education is not dangerous, and much misunderstanding could be corrected by learningā€¦šŸ™‚

In nearly every thread someone would say, ā€œblah, blah blah, not like those Catholics that…blah, blah, blahā€. Or my questions would be met with something like ā€œI’m not falling for your Catholic baiting, you Catholics are trained to bait others with stupid questions to try to trick peopleā€.
At the most recent anti-Catholic forum I visited, something else shocked me. It seemed nobody seemed willing to verify anything. Someone would post an anti-catholic rant (ā€œWhore of Babylon, root of all evil, blah blahā€) with no facts or sources, and everyone would say ā€œThanks for the useful post. It’s spot-on!ā€ or something like that.

And this wasn’t just once. I saw it many, many times. It seemed people just liked hearing what they wanted to hear. The lack of desire for actual evidence was one of several things that made me reject their viewpoints. And join this forum instead. šŸ‘

Probably some members were reading along feeling bad for you but were afraid to say anything — when they do defend a Catholic, they get told they’ve ā€œbetrayed the Reformationā€ or ā€œgiven in to false doctrine.ā€ 😦
You left one out: when the ā€œtraitorā€ (i.e. the defender) starts getting stalked.

Kind of like the hatred spewed at many Protestants here I’m sure.

SIA, I am serious. We should all Love one another. I actually am starting a new Thread. Look for it soon. I just got in from Abortion Protest outside Planned Parenthood Headquarters. 40 days 24/7. I have a church project at 7AM and really need some sleep.

ā€œPreach the gospel at all times, and, when necessary, use words.ā€ – attributed to: St. Francis

SIA, If you talk to Mailman mention to him I also have ā€œdial-upā€. he acts like that is a bad thing!

I really hope that no one thinks I hate them. That would be so wrong. I pray the rosary daily for all the people who read our threads. Every one, the good and bad. I love  everyone on these threads.

ā€œLove without truth would be blind; truth without love would be like ā€˜a clanging cymbal.ā€™ā€ – Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, Homily

I speak the truth. If you ever catch me in a ā€œLieā€, It is merely a misspoken or misunderstood statement like many in the bible.

We are all God’s children. About the ā€œseperated brothersā€, it is only their sins that disgust me, not them as people. I understand how many of them got where they are. I have learnt a lot on this site. Not very much of it good! 😃 I guess in person people change, act different. I try not to, so I never ā€œHideā€ who I am.
My Father, was a poor man. May God grant his soul eternal rest!. He could only leave me was my good name. It was enough! May he pray to God and all the Saints for my soul, and may I always honor his memory.
There are some nice and good people on this site. There are also some funny people, šŸ™‚ who also kid. Why some joke when they think they are serious. Like: Where does it say that in the bible" Hahahaha, like the Bible was the final authority or something! Hahahaha, My sides hurt.:extrahappy:
However, there are also the evil ones that simply want to cause trouble. I really don’t understand why. They would be bettter in church praying to the Blessed Mother asking her to have her Son forgive them for their disrespect and sheer conceitedness. :signofcross: God loves us all and wishes all of His children to be Catholics and enjoy eternal happiness.

ā€œWin an argument and lose a soul.ā€ – Bishop Fulton Sheen:mad:

ā€œYou know well enough that our Lord does not look so much at the greatness of our actions, nor even at their difficulty, but at the love with which we do them.ā€ – St. Therese of Lisieux

I’m reminded of a Far Side cartoon, where God looks at His created earth, then picks up a shaker labeled ā€œJERKSā€ to pour over the planet with the thought, ā€œHmmm, just to make things interestingā€¦ā€

I’m a member of a few other message boards, and usually a clearly defined set of rules and careful moderation will take care of useless posts, baiting, trolling, and a whole host of other problems.

I know full well there are a number of people on here that would spew pages of incredibly offensive anti-Protestant venom if given the chance, but if it were posted it would be deleted and the person responsible for the post would be, to use a 1984 reference, an unperson very quickly. Instead, we’re left with less offensive anti-Protestant venom.šŸ˜‰

Honestly even in the Catholic church we have BIG Problems. Some are even going to vote for Obama because He will make changes in our country. My ancesters are German. Hitler promised the same thing. And he sure did! God help us all. If abortion doesn’t stop soon He will turn His back on us. We want to ā€œforget about Him, as a counrtyā€.

With over 30 Million Catholics even with all the ā€œmodernā€ media people are not informed. Many think we are all the same! We should be non-denominational. We should support each other and respect each other’s beliefs. Not judge or attempt to impose our beliefs on their belief system. That is evil that is the devil at work within all churches and denominations.

Many catholics believe falsehoods. In the 60’ and 70 the Catholic education fell apart trying to ā€œincorporateā€ protestant fellowship and ideas into our churches. It was mostly a failure and although we once again lost some very good Christians to false churches. The Church survived. I have often said . Anything good you say about the RCC is true! Anything bad you say about the RCC is also true. None of them 1000% but since we are such a large church how could they not be?

The Holy Spirit protects, guildes and corrects our leader’s errors if they happen to make some. Like He did when He had Luther protest the evils that were hapening. The church adjusted. Lost some good christians to evil, but the real church survived! 630 AM comes early. God bless. I love all of you even You know who You are!😃 **

No need for mind reading. The sham that the Council of Trent was speaks for itself. The poster was merely making a reference that was very obvious. That’s all.šŸ™‚
**

Oh yea, I forgot. :doh2: Same old arguments.:whacky:

Why don’t you guys save time. You could do another type of code. You could just reuse all your old arguments.
You could post things like:
On Thread:Lying about the Catholic Chuch. Same old Lie # 326, and Argument about Mary # 492
Boy, system like this would save time!.šŸ‘ It wouldn’t be interesting but that pre-proposes that the games you people play now are interesting. What it would do is stop us from saying I have to read this ā€œstuffā€ (TOS~ Rules! ) again. What would be left would be less, but it hopefully would be more interesting! šŸ™‚

Remember God desires everyone to become Catholic. Start swimming. Your life depends on it! 😃

I am on my may to church commitment. Have fun playing!

God Bless!:signofcross: **

Rob, You are a man of few words, I wish I was sometimes.**

šŸ™‚ I have to tell you my friend…That is the first time anyone has ever said that about me!! I am usually accused of ā€œbloviation on a grandiose levelā€!!:o
But I say what God desires me to say. I am only His instrument, for better or worse. He created me this way so He has to use me this way! 😃
Go with God my friend:)

Further…some of the problem is that there are so many different denominations in the Protestant realm, that it is hard to know and understand all of them.

**That is true and since 95% of their practices, traditions, and beliefs they ā€œborrowedā€. I wouldn’t want a TOS violation for calling them thiefs. By saying they actually ā€œstoleā€ them when they left the real church. I actually think they had the intention to return them back when they developed their own. They just never could let, even a part of the ā€œrealā€ church go! šŸ˜› They might as well swim back. Before the water gets …eeerrr…HOT! **

For instance…in my own case…I have yet to have anyone actually make clear the difference between Baptists, Southern Baptists, and Free Will Baptists.

** That is easy to explain. Not the differences but why no one can make clear. They have no idea! With their various associations, conferences, conventions, fellowships, groups, and unions around the world even Baptists can’t even keep accurate track of their sub-denominations. 😃 There are about 50 just in the USA many of which may also have modified its groups doctrinal stance to Free and General Baptists::bigyikes:

Unlike Catholicism, Baptist can only trace their church’s existence to 1639 when founded by Roger Williams in the area that would become the city of Providence. Side by side with the larger body of Baptists, Ten sects**exist. They are found chiefly in the USA. I have not listed their historical and doctrinal relationships by their historical connection to the three ā€œOriginal doctrinal variationsā€ of Baptist. I actually think that might be close to impossible. Besides the groups probably have modified their doctrinal stance to Free and General Baptists:whistle:

(1) The Baptist Church of Christ originated about 1808, Its doctrine is a mild form of Calvinism, with belief in a general atonement and admission of feet-washing as religious ordinance.

(2) The Campbellites, Disciples of Christ, or Christians, date back as a distinct religious body to the early part of the nineteenth century. They are the outgrowth of that movement which manifested itself simultaneously in some of the religious denominations in the United States in favor of the Bible alone without creeds.

(3) The Dunkards (German: tunken, ā€œto dipā€), German Baptists, or Brethren, were founded about 1708 in Germany By 1729 they had all emigrated to the USA. Today divisions have taken place among them. They practice threefold immersion, Their communion service, preceded by the agape, are held in the evenings.

(4) The Freewill Baptists correspond in doctrine and practice to the English General Baptists, but originated in the United States. They exist in two distinct bodies. The older was founded in 1729. Many of its members subsequently joined the Regular Baptists. Those who did not unite became known as the ā€œFree Willersā€ and later as the ā€œOriginal Freewill Baptistsā€. The larger body of the ā€œFreewill Baptistsā€ was founded in 1780. The denomination spread throughout New England and the West, and was joined in 1841 by the ā€œFree-Communion Baptistsā€. It has changed its official name to ā€œFree Baptistsā€. The American General Baptists are in substantial doctrinal agreement with the Freewill Baptists.

(5) The Old Two-Seed-in-the-Spirit ā€œPredestinarianā€ Baptists are Manichaean in doctrine, basically holding that there are two seeds, one of good and one of evil.

(6) The Primitive Baptists, also called Old-School, Anti-Mission, and Hard-Shell, Baptists since 1835 has constituted a sect which is opposed to missions, Sunday schools, and in general to human religious institutions.

(7) The foundation of the Separate and of the United Baptists was the result, either immediate or mediate, of the attitude taken by some Baptists toward the ā€œWhitefield revival movement of the eighteenth centuryā€ (Don’t ask!)

(8) The Seventh-Day Baptists differ from the tenets of the Baptists generally only in their observance of the seventh day of the week as the Sabbath of the Lord. ā€œSabbatarian Baptistsā€ organized in 1671. In 1818 the name Seventh Day Baptists was adopted.
(9) The Six-principle Baptists are a small body and date from the seventeenth century. They are so called from the six doctrines of their creed, contained in Heb., vi, 1-2:
(a) Repentance from dead works;
(b) Faith toward God;
(c) The doctrine of Baptism;
(d) The imposition of hands;
(e) The resurrection of the dead;
(f) Eternal judgment.

(10) The Winebrennerians or Church of God were founded in 1829. They acknowledge three Divine ordinances:
baptism,
feet-washing,
and the Lord’s Supper

Do you think the official Roman Catholic gospel is different than the gospel proclaimed by the Protestant Reformers? Consider the sacred tradition of the Council of Trent before answering.
Depends on how they define ā€œGospelā€. One of the moderators continually slams Catholics as Non-Christians, while others on the forum are more charitable, disagreeing with RCC doctrine.
Am I to take this to mean that those people were comparing Lutherans to Catholics? 😃
Well…not really. I found it interesting that the person speaking out against Lutherans failed to recognize Luther as the ā€œoriginalā€ reformer. The dissing of the Lutherans in that particular thread eluded to they not being ā€œChristiansā€ either, so…yeah, in that sense we were lumped together.
At the most recent anti-Catholic forum I visited, something else shocked me. It seemed nobody seemed willing to verify anything. And this wasn’t just once. I saw it many, many times. It seemed people just liked hearing what they wanted to hear.:
Exactly. And if they quoted something, there was some non-sensical interpretation of something to ā€œdisproveā€ the papacy, etc.
The most reasonable posters would argue that some of our traditions were ā€œnon-biblicalā€, meaning, of course, that they disagreed with our biblical support for Catholic doctrine.

Now you apologize, Mister! They deserve our love and respeat just as much as normal people do, and I am one who will ensure they get it! šŸ‘ **

Uh-huh.šŸ˜‰

Just so no one thinks I was specifically referring to one person or a group of people, I was referring to the fact that there are legitimate jerks in every walk of life all over the world. Unfortunately, a few get behind the alleged anonymity of a computer monitor and user name and start spewing venom that they never would face-to-face. It makes internet research and intelligent discussion more of a pain than it should be.

It reminds me of one of my favorite stories, this one from Jesse DuPlantis.

"This is when I first started preaching I knew enough to be dangerous you know how that is. We didn’t stay in hotels in those days…Stayed in peoples homes…I got this apartment, I got this bedroom and I always take my bible before I go to sleep… well anyway I fell off to sleep with the bible hit me on the chest and I woke up and there’s this big gray object in the corner and it would move. That scared me but I wasn’t getting off that bed, I said no I ain’t getting off this bed, I said I rebuke you, you devil from hell get out of here get out of here…I spit and hollered and screamed and rebuke all until 5, 5:30 till my throat was horse. And the light began to come through the window and it was a raincoat hangin’ over a hat rack. I can’t believe I that I actually rebuked the raincoat for 3 hours. Now here’s the funny part. I got mad at God, I said why didn’t you tell me? He said ā€œJesse that’s the funniest thing I ever saw. Rebuking a raincoat boy.ā€

Do you think the official Roman Catholic gospel is different than the gospel proclaimed by the Protestant Reformers?
I do. I make that plain in the following blog article.
Who REALLY Preaches ā€œA Different Gospelā€?
Consider the sacred tradition of the Council of Trent before answering.
Trent didn’t change the Gospel that the Catholic Church has preached for 2,000 years. It rejected the errors of the reformers and affirmed the same Gospel always preached.

I’m sure you have some point to that remark, but then I’ve seen n-Cs try to twist the Council of Trent before so bring it on and get it out of your system:popcorn:.

I think the Apostle Paul was not a man pleaser, but rather he was a God pleaser.
Galatians 1:10

For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.

Paul Opposes Peter
11 But when Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he stood condemned. 12 For before certain men came from James, he was eating with the Gentiles; but when they came he drew back and separated himself, fearing the circumcision party. 13 And the rest of the Jews acted hypocritically along with him, so that even Barnabas was led astray by their hypocrisy. 14 But when I saw that their conduct was not in step with the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas before them all, ā€œIf you, though a Jew, live like a Gentile and not like a Jew, how can you force the Gentiles to live like Jews?ā€

Justified by Faith
15 We ourselves are Jews by birth and not Gentile sinners; 16 yet we know that a person is not justified [1] by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified.

17 But if, in our endeavor to be justified in Christ, we too were found to be sinners, is Christ then a servant of sin? Certainly not! 18 For if I rebuild what I tore down, I prove myself to be a transgressor. 19 For through the law I died to the law, so that I might live to God. 20 I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. 21 I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness [2] were through the law, then Christ died for no purpose. - Gal 2Irrelevant, this has nothing at all to do with Paul and everything to do with modern post reformation step children and their unwillingness or inability to carry on a calm, rational, and charitable internet discussion about religion among a mixed crowd.

I too have seen the same thing, and am grateful for two things about the moderators here at CAF.
  1. They do not participate as moderators in the debates and discussions. (It’s intimidating) and
  2. They are even handed in their moderation and deal with individuals, regardless of religion, who disrupt these forums with behavior that violates the forum rules.
Frankly, I pretty much have lived to regret my participation in all but maybe 1 or 2 n-C forums, and aside from that I really don’t get excited about going to the rest.

Meanwhile, here at CAF, I do my dead level best to insure that I am both charitable and concise in my arguments.

Sometimes…it’s a real challenge.
