In Ex.31 we see
13 Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the Lord that doth sanctify you.
16 Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant.
17 It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.
1)The Sabbath here is a sign that it is the Lord that sanctifies them (and not man).
2)It is also a PERPETUAL COVENANT. Let me ask you how long of a time does perpetual imply?
3)This passage says that “the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath” Well, who are the children of Israel?
Jer.31
31 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
This says that the new covenant is made with the house of Israel, and with the house of Juda. Whoa, wouldn’t that mean the Jews?
32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the Lord:
This says that the new covenant would not be made as it was with the father who broke the covenant
33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
But that God’s law would be placed in their inward parts and written on there hearts. Now I’m thinking that this law (THE TEN COMMANDMENT) included the fourth commandment.
But then we still have the idea of God making this covenant with the Jews. Consider this.
Rom.9
4 Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises;
5 Whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.
6 Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel:
7 Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called.
8 That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.
The new covenant is made with SPIRITUAL ISRAEL and the Sabbath is still a sign that it is God that sanctifies them (and not man).
Isaiah66
22 For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the Lord, so shall your seed and your name remain.
23 And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the Lord.
24 And they shall go forth, and look upon the carcases of the men that have transgressed against me: for their worm shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring unto all flesh.
And this Sabbath which is a sign of God’s people will be kept down through the ages of eternity (perpetual)
