“Love Him totally Who gave Himself totally for your love.” Clare Of Assisi

“To love God you need three hearts in one - a heart of fire for Him, a heart of flesh for your neighbor, and a heart of bronze for yourself.” Benedict Joseph Labre

“The proud man counts his newspaper clippings, the humble man his blessings.”

Archbishop Fulton Sheen
Ohhh . . . that’s good :D. Wow. Says so much so quickly. Like a bullet between the eyes for accuracy and sharpness.

Hey L.E., I know that I kind of went off track with Archbishop Fulton Sheen, because He’s not an actual officially canonized Saint of the Catholic Church, but I also thought he was worth an honorable mention. I also think that he will be canonized some time soon though. I found out about him through a Catholic radio station called Relevant Radio, and I really like what he has to say in many of his homilies. He also has many great quotes attributed to him, and many of them have a divine sense of humor in them. When I saw those quotes from him that I previously posted, I definitely thought that they belonged here on this thread, and that he was worth an honorable mention. I have also saw many great quotes from Mother Teresa & Pope John Paul II that I would like to put here, and I may just do that as this thread goes along.

“If I could live in a tiny dwelling on a rock in the ocean, surrounded by swelling waves, cut off from the knowledge and the sight of all, I would still not be free from the cares of this fleeting world nor far from the fear that somehow the love of money would come and snatch me away.”

Cuthbert Of Lindisfarne

“Consider everything carefully, and you will find that the customs of the Holy Roman Church do not differ at all from the divine authorities.”

Isidore Of Seville

“He cannot have God for his father who has not the Church for his mother. If anyone was able to escape outside of Noah’s ark, then he also escapes who is outside the doors of the Church.”

Saint Cyprian

“The Church, with the Holy Spirit, blesses our Lady first, then Jesus, ‘Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.’ Not that Mary is greater than Jesus, or even equal to him - that would be an intolerable heresy. But in order to bless Jesus more perfectly we should first bless Mary.”

~St. Louis de Montfort

This is the Psalm I think of whenever I consider “extra ecclesium nallu sallus,” and consider Scripture.

Psalm 87 said:
1
A psalm of the Korahites. A song. The LORD loves the city founded on holy mountains,
2
Loves the gates of Zion more than any dwelling in Jacob.
3
Glorious things are said of you, O city of God! Selah
4
From Babylon and Egypt I count those who acknowledge the LORD. Philistia, Ethiopia, Tyre, of them it can be said: “This one was born there.”
5
But of Zion it must be said: “They all were born here.” The Most High confirms this;
6
the Lord notes in the register of the peoples: “This one was born here.” Selah
7
So all sing in their festive dance: “Within you is my true home.”

All sing within the New Jerusalem, the Church, “within you is my true home,” and of Zion it must be said, “They all were born here.” No one lives outside the Church.

Praise God for the unimaginable beauty of His Precious City of Zion!

Rev. 21:2, 11, 19-21 “I also saw the holy city, a new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. It gleamed with the splendor of God. Its radiance was like that of a precious stone, like jasper, clear as crystal. The foundations of the city wall were decorated with every precious stone; the first course of stones was jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald, the fifth sardonyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh hyacinth, and the twelfth amethyst. The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each of the gates made from a single pearl; and the street of the city was of pure gold, transparent as glass.”

I really like many of Saint Louis DeMontforts quotes.

“If knowledge can cause most people to become vain, perhaps ignorance and lack of learning can make them humble. Yet now and then you do find men who pride themselves on their ignorance.”

John Climacus

‘Wherefore, it is supreme ignorance for the soul to think that it will be able to pass to this high estate of union with God if first it void not the desire of all things, natural and supernatural, which may hinder it. . . for there is the greatest possible distance between these things and that which comes to pass in this estate, which is naught else than transformation in God. For this reason Our Lord, when showing us this path, said through Saint Luke: Qui non renuntiat omnibus quoe possidet, non potest meus esse discipulus. This signifies: He that renounces not all things that he possesses with his will cannot be My disciple. And this is evident; for the doctrine that the Son of God came to teach was contempt for all things, whereby a man might receive as a reward the Spirit of God in himself. For, as long as the soul rejects not all things, it has no capacity to receive the Spirit of God in pure transformation.’

St. John of the Cross

This quote frightened me and made me go into deep thought at the same time. Thats what I love about many quotes from the Saints, they are very thought provoking. Many people may dismiss them as nothing, but didn’t many people do the same to Jesus and the Prophets? Many people also think that many of the saints were head cases and out of their minds, but again, didn’t many people think the same thing about Jesus and the Prophets? Thanks for sharing that Shin.

Yes, St. John makes for thought – with every quote!

I always also appreciate St. John Climacus.

‘The man who despairs of himself when he hears of the supernatural virtues of the saints is most unreasonable. On the contrary, they supremely teach you one of two things: Either they rouse you to emulation by their holy courage, or they lead you by way of thrice-holy humility to deep self-contempt and realization of your inherent weakness.’

St. John Climacus

“He who remembers the presence of God is less open to other thoughts, especially bad thoughts. As long as we believe that God sees us, we are restrained from daring to sin before such a Witness and Judge. In two ways the presence of God is an antidote against sin: first, because God sees us, and, secondly, because we see God.”

Ignatius Of Loyola

That is extremely profound. I want to meditate on it.

I want to have God before my eyes more often.

“I don’t know how I could have managed to write so many different books. You must have done it, Lord. I know that this is putting it badly; I haven’t written anything, you have done it all. My God, you made use of me, a worthless instrument without the knowledge, talent, or time to do all this. But, unknown to me, you were giving me all the help I needed.”

Anthony Mary Claret

Amen! This is a great quote! I must keep it!

Here is a deep one:

‘The sanctity of a man lies in the breadth of three fingers, (the forehead) that is to say, in mortifying the understanding, which would fain reason upon things.’

St. Philip Neri

“The Lord our God has granted me the grace of knowing the heart of people as if I were reading a book.”

Anthony Mary Claret

St Therese (the Little Flower) de Lesieux! (Hope I spelled that right!)

Yes you spelled it correctly. Hers is an awe inspiring life story, and she herself has left behind many great writings, quotes and thoughts.
