I love saint Monica and chose her when i converted. I admire her persistance in prayer…the fact she prayed for years for her son, never giving up the hope of his conversion. I think it is an excellent example of faith, and wonder if I would of given up, or continued, I pray I can be persistant and faithful like that!!! I also understand she had an abusive husband who eventually converted too.

I heard a story about Saint Monica, about when she went to go see a Priest, so she could talk too him about the conversion of her son. The whole time they talked, she continually cried, because she was so concerned about her son. I guess that the priest told her: “Woman, would not God feel compassion for all of the tears that you shed for your son? Your son will surely not be lost.” That priest was speaking prophetically.
 
I figured that I would post a quote from the most famous saint of all.

My patron is Saint Nicholas. I chose him because I love Christmas. Because of him I proudly answer “YES!” when people ask if I believe in a living Santa Claus. His body is gone, but he is alive with God in Heaven. Does he bring gifts? Absolutely! Every time he intercedes on my behalf, and he especially gives his “gifts” in the Advent and Christmas seasons, since his Feast Day is in Advent and he is the patron Saint of Christmas. He is also the patron Saint of New York City along with a whole host of other things (including prostitutes!).

Anyway, yeah. But my favorite quote would have to be from St. Augustine. I love St. Augustine. He has so many great quotes. My favorite is, “The road to Hell is paved with good intentions.”

I also have a good relationship with Saint Michael the archangel. He very nearly became my patron. I invoke his prayer fairly often.

Iv’e heard that quote before, but I never knew it was attributed to Saint Augustine. Thanks for sharing that.

AN HONORABLE MENTION.

I know that Archbishop Fulton Sheen isn’t officially a canonized saint of the church yet, but I’m confident that he will be some day soon. With that being said, I wanted to give him an honorable mention here. I really love his old homilies, and I also really enjoy many of his quotes. This man had many thought provoking things to say, but also seemed to have a truly divine sense of humor. So here are a couple of quotes from him.

“The proud man counts his newspaper clippings, the humble man his blessings.”

“An Atheist is a man who has no invisible means of support.”
