Very nice!!!

If we would not be judged, it behoves us alike not to judge others, and to judge ourselves. Our Lord forbids the one, His Apostle enjoins the other, saying, “If we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.” But alas! for the most part we precisely reverse these precepts, judging our neighbour, which is forbidden on all sides, while rarely judging ourselves, as we are told to do.

~St. Francis de Sales

“At the Day of Judgement, we won’t be asked whether we realized unity, but whether we prayed, worked, and suffered for it.”

~Bl. Pope John XXIII

“If God’s word is spoken only naturally, it does very little; but if it is spoken by a priest who is filled with the fire of charity–the fire of love of God and neighbor–it will wound vices, kill sins, convert sinners, and work wonders.”

Anthony Mary Claret

“The better friends you are, the straighter you can talk, but while you are only on nodding terms, be slow to scold.”

Francis Xavier

I love saint Monica and chose her when i converted. I admire her persistance in prayer…the fact she prayed for years for her son, never giving up the hope of his conversion. I think it is an excellent example of faith, and wonder if I would of given up, or continued, I pray I can be persistant and faithful like that!!! I also understand she had an abusive husband who eventually converted too.

“The temple of the spirit is raised through work and suffering; and I would add that suffering counts for more than work.”

Anthony Mary Claret

“The Cross to me is certain salvation. The Cross is that which I ever adore. The Cross of the Lord is with me. The Cross is my refuge.”

Thomas Aquinas

“Granting that we are always in the presence of God, yet it seems to me that those who pray are in His presence in a very different sense; for they, as it were, see that He is looking upon them, while others may be for days together without even once recollecting that God sees them.”

Teresa Of Avila

“At the Day of Judgement, we won’t be asked whether we realized unity, but whether we prayed, worked, and suffered for it.”

~Bl. Pope John XXIII
That is a very thought provoking quote Lief, thanks for sharing it.

I heard a story about Saint Monica, about when she went to go see a Priest, so she could talk too him about the conversion of her son. The whole time they talked, she continually cried, because she was so concerned about her son. I guess that the priest told her: “Woman, would not God feel compassion for all of the tears that you shed for your son? Your son will surely not be lost.” That priest was speaking prophetically.

I figured that I would post a quote from the most famous saint of all.

Dependence On God.

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds in the sky; they do not sow or reap, they gather nothing into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are not you more important than they? Can any of you by worrying add a single moment to your life span? Why are you anxious about clothes? Learn from the way the wildflowers grow. They do not work or spin. But I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was clothed like one of them. If God so clothes the grass of the field, which grows today and is thrown into the oven tomorrow, will he not much more provide for you, O you of little faith? So do not worry and say, ’ What are we to eat?’ or ’ What are we to drink?’ or ’ What are we to wear?’ All these things the pagans seek. Your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given you besides. Do not worry about tomorrow; tomorrow will take care of itself. Sufficient for a day is its own evil.”

King of all kings

Saint of all saints

Jesus Christ

“One of the soldiers pierced Jesus’ side with a spear, and at once blood and water came out’ (John 19:34). John says pierced or opened to show that the sacraments are available through the open doors of his heart from which they flow. The blood that flows from his heart washes away all our sins. The water that flows with the blood signifies baptism that remits all sin. His open side recalls the creation of Eve taken from Adam’s side; Christ, the second Adam, bowed his head on the cross, fell asleep in death and brought forth his bride, the Church, from his side. Nothing is as purifying as this blood! Nothing is as health giving as this wound!”

St.Augustine Of Hippo

“Our actions have a tongue of their own; They have an eloquence of their own, even when the tongue is silent. For deed prove the lover more than words.”

Saint Cyril Of Jerusalem

Tremendous good quotes.

‘My watchmen are blind, all of them unaware; They are all dumb dogs, they cannot bark; seeing vain things, sleeping and loving dreams. These are the shepherds which know no discretion; Each of them goes his own way, every one after his own gain, from the first even to the last.’

Isaiah 56:10-11

My patron is Saint Nicholas. I chose him because I love Christmas. Because of him I proudly answer “YES!” when people ask if I believe in a living Santa Claus. His body is gone, but he is alive with God in Heaven. Does he bring gifts? Absolutely! Every time he intercedes on my behalf, and he especially gives his “gifts” in the Advent and Christmas seasons, since his Feast Day is in Advent and he is the patron Saint of Christmas. He is also the patron Saint of New York City along with a whole host of other things (including prostitutes!).

Anyway, yeah. But my favorite quote would have to be from St. Augustine. I love St. Augustine. He has so many great quotes. My favorite is, “The road to Hell is paved with good intentions.”

I also have a good relationship with Saint Michael the archangel. He very nearly became my patron. I invoke his prayer fairly often.

Iv’e heard that quote before, but I never knew it was attributed to Saint Augustine. Thanks for sharing that.

Thanks Shin. You and many others have contributed some great quotes from many great saints here, and you have all made this thread very awe inspiring. Thank you all very much.

AN HONORABLE MENTION.

I know that Archbishop Fulton Sheen isn’t officially a canonized saint of the church yet, but I’m confident that he will be some day soon. With that being said, I wanted to give him an honorable mention here. I really love his old homilies, and I also really enjoy many of his quotes. This man had many thought provoking things to say, but also seemed to have a truly divine sense of humor. So here are a couple of quotes from him.

“The proud man counts his newspaper clippings, the humble man his blessings.”

“An Atheist is a man who has no invisible means of support.”

Archbishop Fulton Sheen
