Thank you for posting all of these friend, there is much wisdom to be found in all of these quotes. By the way, I found a really good quote from Maximilian Kolbe earlier and I’ll post it below.

“Modern Times are dominated by Satan and will be more so in the future. The conflict with hell cannot be engaged by men, not even the most clever.”

Maximilian Kolbe
That is so true . . . It’s a call to rely on faith in God, Who is our Victory and Refuge. Our weapons are spiritual. It’s too easy to sink into relying on oneself, when God is the only way to accomplish what needs to be done.

We need more souls like Bl. Teresa of Calcutta, active, self-abandoned, sacrificial souls who are utterly given over to the love of God, and through that love, give God to so many.

We have so much need of holiness, and the world around us needs us to be holy, too.

“Mary alone gives to the unfortunate children of unfaithful Eve entry into that earthly paradise where they may walk pleasantly with God and be safely hidden from their enemies. There they can feed without fear of death on the delicious fruit of the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. They can drink copiously the heavenly waters of that beauteous fountain which gushes forth in such abundance.”

~St. Louis de Montfort

“If you put all the love of all the mothers into one heart it still would not equal the love of the Heart of Mary for her children.”

~St. Louis de Montfort

“When the Holy Spirit finds Mary in a soul, He enters that soul completely and communicates Himself completely to that soul.”

~St. Louis de Montfort

“Mary is the lily of God’s garden.”

~Bridget of Sweden

“No man is delivered or preserved from the worldwide snares of Satan save through Mary; and God grants His graces to no one except through her alone.”

~St. Germanus

“Jesus is the mediator of justice; Mary obtains for us grace; for . . . it is the will of God to dispense through the hands of Mary whatever graces He is pleased to bestow upon us. With God, the prayers of the saints are the prayers of His friends, but the prayers of Mary are the prayers of His mother.”

~St. Alphonsus Liguori

“It is the privilege of the glory of Mary, that after God, our greatest happiness is from her.”

~St. Bonaventure

“No matter how sinful one may have been, if he has devotion to Mary, it is impossible that he be lost."

~St. Hilary of Poitiers

“Prayer is powerful beyond limits when we turn to the Immaculata who is queen even of God’s heart.”

~St. Maximilian Kolbe

“What a joy to remember that she is our Mother! Since she loves us and knows our weakness, what have we to fear?”

~St. Therese of Lisieux

There are so many reasons that I’m so thankful for this great Catholic faith of ours, with the least of those reasons not being the teachings on Mary. Mother of our Saviour and our Mother. I never understood these teachings for the longest time and I was very hesitant to pray the Rosary. I admittedly don’t pray the Rosary as much as I used to, and thats something I need to strive harder to start doing again, even if its one decade a day to start out. Three (3) things that I want to point out here, that I wish more of our Protestant brothers & sisters were aware of, are three things that came to me when I was praying the Rosary. Were they signal graces from Mary, or something I just figured out? I’m not that smart, so I’d like to think that there was Divine intervention.
  1. Look at the prayer of the Rosary, the whole thing is straight out of Sacred Scripture. What did the angel say to Mary when he appeared to her? Hail Mary full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
What did Elizabeth say to Mary when she was FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT? Blessed are thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.

What does Mary say in Scripture? From this point forward all generations will call me blessed. Catholics are fulfilling Mary’s prophecy. When we pray the Rosary, we are praying Scripture.

2.What does Jesus say when he is upon the cross? He says to the disciple whom he loved: Son behold your Mother, Mother behold your Son. Protestants like to argue that Jesus was talking to John, but those are not the words our Saviour chose. He said to the disciple whom he loved. I hope to be a disciple whom Jesus loves.

3.A wise man once explained too me that from the original sin, which was pride, death entered the universe and Eve became the mother of all the dead and dieing. Eve thought like so many do today, that she could become her own god, choosing what is good and evil for herself. She disobeyed God and death entered the universe, and at that very point, Eve was banished from God’s sight.

Look at what God says to Satan in the book of Genesis. “I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers.”

There are many references of Jesus in Scripture where he is called the offspring of David. Is Jesus the immediate son of David? No. Are we the immediate sons and daughters of Mary? No. Are we the offspring of Mary? Yes.

How important is Mary? She is the spouse of the Holy Spirit, the Mother of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, and she is mentioned & prefigured in the Old Testament several times, including the Ark of the Covenant. The ark carried the Sacred vessel within it, Just as Mary carried the sacred body of Jesus within her womb. Mary is in the New Testament, and is also a prominent figure in the Book Of Revelations.

“Men do not fear a powerful hostile army as the powers of hell fear the name of Mary.”
Bonaventure

“Often fill your mind with thoughts of the great gentleness and mercy with which God our Saviour welcomes souls at death, if they have spent their lives in trusting Him, and striven to serve and love Him. Do your utmost to arouse in yourself a love of heaven and the life of the blessed so you will weaken your dread of parting from this mortal and fleeting life.”

Francis De Sales

“He need have no fear of error in believing that God is calling him to contemplation, regardless of what sort of person he is now or has been in the past. It is not what you are nor what you have been that God sees with his all-merciful eyes, but what you desire to be.”

Anonymous, The Cloud Of The Unknowing

Hi Saint wannabe! Thanks again for all the beautiful and inspiring quotes.

This last one sure makes me feel better. I hope it is true 😃

This next quote was stolen from another thread here at CAF. 🙂 It was posted by a member here named Zooey.

Zooey has been made made aware that I was taking this quote and placing it here, because I liked it so much.

A person once asked Saint Joan Of Arc if she was in a state of grace, and she replied:

“If I am may God keep me there, and if I am not, may God put me there.”

Zooey suggested that this was a good prayer that should be used by all, and I would whole heartedly agree.

Thanks Zooey. 🙂

“Out of love the Lord took us to himself; because he loved us and it was God’s will, our Lord Jesus Christ gave his life’s blood for us - he gave his body for our body, his soul for our soul.”

Clement Of Rome

onmyknees, It is thought by many that The Cloud Of The Unknowing was indeed written by a saint, and He/She was a very humble saint at that, because the whole book is written by an anonymous author. I really like that quote, and I believe it to be true.

What an awesome thread! I haven’t been able to read all the responses, but what I’ve seen is very inspiring!

My favorite quotes - some of which, undoubtedly, have already been mentioned:

St Francis of Assisi: “Preach always, and, when necessary, use words.”

Mother Theresa: “At the end of the day, do not just ask yourself what you did for Jesus, but also, what did I do TO Jesus” (not verbatim - I couldn’t find the actual quote)

And my very favorite: “Everything is a grace”: St. Therese of Lisieux (The Little Flower). I think this is the most inspiring quote to live by. Truly, if God has our best interests at heart (which He does), then absolutely everything He permits in our lives is a grace, if we will conform our will to it! NOTHING is difficult to accept given that perspective!

I’m glad that you like the thread. Please feel free to come back and read all of the quotes, inspirational stories, etc. And please also feel free to add more. God bless friend.

“The man who follows his own will independently of God’s, is guilty of a kind of idolatry.”

Saint Alphonsus De Liguori

If you would understand that the cross is Christ’s triumph, hear what he himself also said: “When I am lifted up, then I will draw all men to myself.” Now you can see that the cross is Christ’s glory and triumph.

Seeing that I wish to become a Salesian priest, I will post some wonderful quotes of inspiration from Don Bosco and some of my thoughts on them.
“That you are young is enough to make me love you.”
I just love this quote so much. It may sound silly, but at times I do feel Don Bosco’s love.
“For you I study, for you I work, for you I live, for you I am ready even to give my life”
As a person who attends a Salesian school, I see the devotion that Don Bosco had for his students from the nuns and teachers at my school today. These men and women were passed the torch that Don Bosco first held through the grace of God. There is something in knowing that over a hundred years ago a saintly but simple priest worked so hard and devoted his life so that you experience the education and love that I have experienced at a Salesian school.
“I want no long-faced saints.”
This seems to me to be a big part of the Salesian spirituality and charism. Don Bosco had a pupil named Dominic Savio, he would become one of the youngest saints in the Church. Dominic wanted more than anything to be a saint and would often say, “Death but not sin.” Dominic would often times sacrifice, so much so sometimes that it was detrimental to his health (it didn’t help that he wasn’t the healthiest of boys to begin with). Don Bosco would often approach Dominic and tell him this, “I want no long-faced saints.” Meaning that he wants his boys to be saints, but happy ones. That is something we should strive to be happy saints!

Don Bosco on sainthood:
  1. That it is God’s will that each one should become a saint.
  2. That it is easy to become a saint.
  3. That there is a great reward waiting in heaven for those who try to become saints.
Great for anyone who wants to be a saint.

Don Bosco is a hero of mine and I love him, although I have never met him I feel as if he is a spiritual father. Though I can say that I have met him through the Salesian sisters, priests, and lay cooperators that I have met.

And two of his quotes I repeat often:
“Trust in Mary and you will see miracles”
“Mary Help of Christians, pray for us.”
We envy the shepherds who went to visit the grotto of Bethlehem to see Him, kissed His little hand, and offered Him their gifts. “Lucky shepherds!” we exclaim. And yet there is no reason to envy them, for their fortune is ours, too. The same Jesus they visited in the grotto is in our tabernacle. The only difference is that the shepherds saw Him with the eyes of the body, whereas we see Him with the eyes of faith. Nothing will please Him more than our frequent visits to Him.
Viva Don Bosco!

Thanks for posting those. I honestly don’t know that much about Don Bosco or haven’t read many quotes or writings from him. Iv’e learned so much since Iv’e started this thread, and it seems that we as Catholics have been blessed with an endless source of wisdom from these great men and women that we share our faith with.

“He said that we must be slain and hated for His name’s sake, and that many false prophets and false Christs would come forward in His name and would lead many astray. And this is the case. For many have taught what is godless and blasphemous and wicked, falsely stamping their teaching with His name, and have taught what has been put into their mind by the unclean spirit of the devil, and teach it until now.”

Justin Martyr

“Avoid heretics like wild beasts; for they are mad dogs, biting secretly.”

Ignatius Of Antioch

This is some good advice from Saint John Vianney, that I need to take to heart and practice more often. I know that this is easier said than done, but I think if everyone were to take this to heart & practice it, the world would be a much better place.

“The way to overcome the Devil when he excites feelings of hatred for those who injure us is immediately to pray for their conversion.”

John Vianney

“Those who love God are always happy.” St Alphonsus Liguori.

That’s the tagline & inspiration for my gallery of ‘Happy Saints’ artworks!
