I here she is slightly more popular than George Weigel and Fr Mike Schmitz and Curtis Martin and Mother Angelica combined, than multiplied by a big number.

Yes, there is poor music, but I quit watching music videos for another reason. For me, they ruin good music. There are songs I used to like until I saw the video. Now those visual images come to mind whenever I hear the song, and the net effect is intolerable to me. I can’t enjoy those songs anymore. 🙁

The thing is, at least from what I have seen as a 22 year-old woman, among people who were raised with the Internet, there is no hegemonic popular culture. With the Internet, people are able to get hooked on more niche interests at an earlier age instead of just relying on what’s popular at school or what is on the TV and radio. While some do listen to celebrities, others might listen more to YouTubers who tend to be more independently-minded than the folks we regularly see on Entertainment Tonight.

If censorship of the Internet prevails, which we are seeing the beginnings today, then I will get start to get worried. But, I doubt it will because of increasinng awareness and resistance to attempts at censorship and the rise of alt-tech.

Mehhh. Depends on your own criteria I guess. She writes her own music, even when she has other writers, co produces her stuff and she’s pretty much in control of her brand. She’s more artist than a large majority of people in the industry right now.

Several reasons. The popular resistance to PC culture. The reassurance I feel because I live in America and we have the First Amendment. The Internet and all the possible alternative sources for information.

And just my own life experience. I didn’t get my worldview from the TV or my university professors, but from the sources I’ve independently sought. Same with my friends.

Not like she will care. She has made more money than she can possibly spend in several lifetimes. I think all this virtue-signaling is more to impress the elitist crowd. These celebrity virtue signallers have no problem dissing ordinary folks who would have otherwise loved their music/writing/art. Once you have made enough money from the masses, you don’t need them anymore. Now it’s about impressing the cool kids.

#metoo I think the same as you.

This made me chuckle. I’m 62 years old. My parents were fearful of my generation as a baby boomer. Sex, drugs and rock and roll we’re going to be the end of it all. Draft dodgers, war protesters and hippies! Oh, my!!
My generation was concerned about the millennials being the late bloomers, being entitled to whatever.
My point is everyone always worry about future generations. But we find while some may be wasting away their lives as some do in every generation, most are working hard behind the scenes learning new technologies and skills, bringing these toward the good of all. I have great faith in our young. Ignore the news and social media, because they showcase the worst of everyone. Look at the advances of science and technology and the men and women of the military. They’re the leaders being formed. Trust in God.

It was the shake it off album, lol. So not tooo long ago. I am not in the US, but i remember her being hugeeee since Love Story. She always had a strong following in some parts of Asia.

They’re fans. It’s a collector’s thing. She even sold two versions of magazines/books I believe qiite recently. Which meant that these fans would have gotten two albums each if they wanted to own these magazines. She also held off her album from streaming sites during release week so that fans would have to buy her music, ensuring she gets her 1m+ sales. And they don’t seem to mind. Fans of pop artists would stream and buy as many they can to make sure their ‘idol’ breaks records. Taylor just capitalises on this, which is smart of her i guess. Morally speaking, idk.

Looks like she’s going the Katy Perry route now?
Pity because I really love her song ready for it.
I think Taylor Swift is extremely smart at marketing and branding and reading the trends but imho it’s better for singers to have their own views instead of giving the public what they want/appealing to popular opinion and selling out for money and fame.

Or maybe this is what she really actually thinks about christians ?🤔

I feel a bit sorry for the people who got cast to play the “bogans” in her video clip 😆 .

I think there’s probably plenty who don’t endorse it but unfortunately we rarely hear about them in mainstream because radio stations don’t play their songs and they rarely reach mass popularity.

The video was definitely over the top. But what is also over the top is practicing “traditional” Catholics referring to gay people as f * g * on Facebook. And even in their blogs and articles they write. I don’t know why you are second guessing Taylor’s views on this. She obviously feels this way and it’s not just marketing. Just like some Christians and Catholics really feel the way they do with the hate they spew towards gay people. I used to be homophobic. By God’s grace I’m not anymore. Like I said the video was over the top but from what I got from it she was attacking those who spew hate. Not people who defend what the Church teaches in love and charity. I’ve seen the hate online for gay people by those with Catholic media platforms who with no hesitation refer to gay people as f * g * and other hateful terms.

We’ll have to agree to disagree on this. I believe the men and women in our military are smarter and better trained than my Air Force days where I trained and worked with all branches.

That’s right.

I wasn’t offended by it at all.

I didn’t take it as an attack on myself or the other posters on here who are committed Catholics who sincerely believe that God intended marriage as between a man and a woman.

I took it as a criticism of, to be frank, the anti-gay extremists.

Like this preacher, who was in the news yesterday:

article
Fritts made headlines in early June when he called for the execution of LGBTQ people and said they were “worthy of death” in a sermon posted to the church’s website and later deleted.

Question: Did it make it clear that that was what it was doing?

So, considering the facts here, I have to question the intent of those who put it together.

No.

But I’m not like the “Christians” in the video. Neither are the other Catholics on here.

I know how to spell “homosexuality.”

I know how to spell “morons” and in fact I’d never call anyone that to begin with.

If the shoe doesn’t fit I don’t wear it.

And if the people who really are like that (who preach hate, who use bad language, who go around saying that they “recruit” young people or they’re child molesters) are offended by the video, I don’t really care.

For all I know, Taylor Swift may not be doing this stuff of her own volition. It isn’t popular to be anti-homosexual in the United States in this day and age.

Our country was founded on freedom of religion and freedom from religion. We can be happy for two Catholic people who are married, two Jewish people who are happy, two atheists who are committed toward one another, and two homosexual people who are happy. These folks don’t need to agree with Catholic values/beliefs. And Catholics don’t need to endorse theirs.

There’s nothing wrong with people living their life even if you don’t agree with their approach.

Um, is Taylor Swift tattooed in real life now, or just in the video in question?
