Gallup: Delaware is conservative

So, the conventional wisdom is that Delaware is too “moderate” to elect Republican Christine O’Donnell.

That is not what Delawareans say.

Gallup reported that 37.4% of the people of the First State describe themselves as conservative — or nearly double the 19% who describe themselves as liberals.

That gives conservatives an advantage of 18.4%.

That is a bigger advantage than conservatives enjoy in Maine, where both senators are Republicans.

The Blue Hen State is redder than California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Nevada, New Hampshire, Washington state and Wisconsin — states where Republicans are either favored or competitive in the Senate races.

In January, a Republican won a Senate election for the first time since 1972 in a state where conservatives own only a 1.4% advantage.

Delaware is too liberal to elect O’Donnell?

I think not.

She must have something going on since “uneducated hicks” do not really get to become Governor of a State, run for Vice-President and influence a growing political movement. 👍
Just so you know I of all ppl most certainly didn’t call anyone an uneducated hick. But don’t forget Sarah Palin is not a governor. It’s one thing to retire after serving your term or even get booted by the electorate and be called by title. Another to just quit midterm. But I don’t know maybe she wanted to do a book tour or something instead of fulfilling her job in Alaska.

Most likely because Palin is so easy to mock. 🙂
And so is Obama.

Yes, they do make frequent fun of people like Clinton, Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Hillary.

But the humor there does not have the same level of bite and venom that Republicans get. Remember what happened to Dubya?
I’m surprised the man was not kicked out of office for being “mentally slow,” such was the caricature of him portrayed on the show.

How about Cheney? Came off like a vicious psychopath in SNL.

Clinton particularly came off like a “lovable scoundrel.” Yes, he lied and obstructed justice and all of that—but hey the ladies sure do love him!!!👍 And he did SO much good for the nation!

Obama is made fun of------but one usually laughs “with” him, not “at” him, like one did Bush. Occassionally fun is made at his expense, but more of the time Obama is the Great Black Savior of the Nation having to put up with interference from those, evil, nasty, religious wacko, racist Republicans.

Tina Fey happens to hate Sarah Palin----you don’t think that had anything to do with anything???

Don’t forget, CNN did a fact check of the sketch:

politico.com/blogs/michaelcalderone/1009/CNN_factchecks_SNLs_Obama_sketch.html

Hmm…did CNN do any fact checks on Bush skits? Cheney skits? Palin skits?

So sad when people get their news from SNL Yahoo

What did Sarah Palin really say about Russia? Can she see Russia from her house?

The line “I can see Russia from my house” was uttered by Tina Fey playing Sarah Palin on Saturday Night Live (SNL). It’s such a good line because it’s close to Palin’s actual words and thoughts. She could well have uttered those very words.

Here is what she said to ABC’s Charles Gibson – we give you Gibson’s question and Palin’s answer (fact check the source: ABC)

GIBSON: What insight into Russian actions, particularly in the last couple of weeks, does the proximity of the state give you?

PALIN: They’re our next door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska.

🤷 I can see my neighbor’s front yd across the street from me as I look out of my window right now while typing on the keyboard. Doesn’t mean I have any insight though on my neighbor’s actions today, let alone particularly in the last couple of wks. Nor makes me qualified to be VP let alone Pres.

I admit to you that Palin apparently let the media glare and controversy surrounding her (name removed by moderator)ial term to get to her and it led her to make an unwise decision to quit. I would have wanted her to tough it out.

And you know what? It does make one understand that she is not ready yet for the Big Office. But personally, if you look at her history you come to understand that she is a
“quick learner” and she has the ability to learn from mistakes.
Hopefully she will grow politically and lifewise if she is to run for President in 2012, as some suggest she will.

A good insight into Palin’s psyche comes from Stephen Mansfield and his book THE FAITH OF SARAH PALIN. Give it a try. Mansfiled and his co-author actually come up with 7 things that Sarah Palin should do to grow politically and to convince the American People that she is ready for the Big Time. One of the suggestions (from what I remember) is “learn from your enemies.”

I would not vote for Palin today, but if things keep rolling like they are now, I would be willing to.

Certainly you have to admit, CMatt25, that her influence and actions within the Tea Party make her more than just a “one trick pony” and interesting (and humorous) footnote to American History. 👍

Or maybe it could have to do with the fact that the left was harassing her family, ridiculing her children (including the one with Down’s syndrome) and trying to destroy her children in the public eye. I’d quit too if someone was doing to my children what the left was doing to hers.

… and go on to make millions as a media pundit? She’s certainly not abandoned the public eye; she just now appears in controlled venues. Much more money coupled with much less accountability – it must be great.

If you resigned, what would you say to your donors? Or to your political appointees who gave up more lucrative jobs to work in your administration?

You may have a point there, Whitacre Girl.

Still, potential Statesmen and Stateswomen should be made of sterner stuff than that. That’s what the American People expect of their leaders.

But events have shown that Sarah Palin is growing in getting respect and clout and weight from the common people----and she may indeed “grow” and “learn” so that she is able to mount a strong challenge in 2012. I would vote for a Palin ticket if that were to happen. I probably will, to be honest.

Melkite, oh indeed I admit to that. She’s already spent time in Iowa and Iowa Republicans tend to be of the conservative Christian variety. If I’m not mistaken Rev Gov Huckabee has won the Iowa caucuses previously. (I do enjoy him playing bass guitar on his FOX show btw. I don’t agree with many of his political policies but a cool dude) Anyway I can see her winning there and maybe moving on and winning SC and if she does that, who knows. I can see a path for her being the GOP nominee in 12 most certainly. 👍

I agree with the bit about public servants needing to made of stronger stuff, but I certainly don’t fault her that much for trying to protect her family by moving to a more controlled environment. It has to be hard having a child with a disability, but to have the “party of tolerance” berating your disabled child for simply being related to you…I certainly can’t fault her. She stood against it for longer than I possibly could have, which shows she really is strong to put up with so much. Not to mention what happened to Bristol, and the pain the MSM was putting her through for her pregnancy and broken engagement. :nope:

I really admire Palin, she is a woman of conviction and strength. I would vote for her in a heartbeat.

If the original statement is bad enough, why lie about what she said? Because the left wants to discredit her. She can’t see Russia from her front porch and she never said she could.

I do not have the ability to articulate to certain people what I think about them all the while remaining charitable.

So I will respond to your post and ignore the previous one.

Let me point you to this article:

abcnews.go.com/Politics/sarah-palin-speaks-abc-news/story?id=8016906

Palin had the choice of staying in office and filing bankrupt on, if I remember right, nearly 1 million dollars she faced in personal legal bills.

Or leaving, sell the book and paying cash.

Just to point out also, in college, she did something she was uncomfortable doing to pay cash for college instead of going into debt then as well. That was the beauty contest.

Regardless of the choice she made, those looking for a reason to dislike her would have found it. She had the choice of becoming a “quitter” or someone who can not handle their personal finances. Bankruptcy would have haunted her for much longer than resigning her office.

She would skin Obama like an Alaskan salmon if they were to debate in 2012. I’ll put my money on it, and I hope it happens.

This is beside the point, but why would you say she has conviction and strength?

Every other person in politics deals with the press. She confines herself to the most softball interviews and facebook posts.

You can say the press was more unfair to her than others (I don’t agree), but even so, that isn’t a reason to run away.

She seems to run from anything remotely serious. She didn’t even finish her term as governor. That doesn’t show much commitment to the people who elected her. It seems to me she had a choice of working as a public servant on a public servant’s salary with all the frustrations of politics, or being a superstar speaker making millions of dollars. She chose the latter. It isn’t an immoral choice, and I might have done the same had I had the chance, but certainly not one I would call a demonstration of conviction and strength.

There is a tremendous amount of ink wasted on her (this post included). I’m mystified as to why anyone who adopt someone who appears so cowardly and self-absorbed as a personal hero.

I doubt it.

Most people will admit that Palin is somewhat light on the issues. Really, by depth and experience she is not presidential timber. Sure, she can run her mouth in controlled settings, but she really cannot even substantiate what she says under hostile media questioning or should would not come up with comments like ‘death panels’.

It was not the threat of bankruptcy which forced her out of office – she wanted to pile up some cash and speak before friendly crowds. You can’t always do that as an elected official.

Ms. Palin has not shown that she knows her limits.
