We’re baaaaaack…and I’m WAY too old to ever have been an altar girl, prodigal. Everything north of the altar rail was verboten to any female except members of the Altar Society when I was growing up and to confirmation candidates who had to kneel and get slapped by the bishop.

I don’t cross myself at all–except of course for all those times when I go against my own best interests…but is that a cross, or is that a double-cross?Poor, poor Greek Orthodox. I assure you that I am neither Greek Orthodox nor do I cross myself improperly.

Catholics: You silly people and your pagan practices. You cross yourselves with your hands, say hail mary’s, recite the Lord’s prayer from memory, and so many more rituals I can’t think of at the moment.
(The Lord’s prayer was simply used as an example for how we should prayl it wasn’t meant to be something we recite word-for-word when we can’t think of any other thing to say to God. I know he wants to hear our personal praises and concerns, not some memorized prayer used in the Bible. That’s like stealing an answer from the person sitting next to you in class. The teacher wants your own work, to know what’s on your mind, or to know what you have to say).
As for hail mary’s & crossing over yourself, I don’t think those are even Biblical rituals… more like traditions that keep getting passed down, that people think are necessary.
Atheists: You people are against living your lives the way anyone else tells you to, so you refuse to admit that there may be a God. And, if there is a possibility, then don’t you think you should pick up a Bible sometime? I mean, after all, it is the world’s best-selling book! It is very unique, and has been tested several times to ve proven historically inaccurate; that has yet to be done! Also, this book has a savior within it’s pages, and I’m sure most of you know about Jesus Christ. He says to come to him as you are, he doesn’t expect anyone of us to change our lives for him. All he wants is people who are willing to follow him. He will do the rest. And, I know from personal experience, as well as from Christian friends: that once you become a Christian that you lose the desire to do a lot of things that are considered sinful. However, even the most devout Christians (even the Pope himself!) are sinful people.
Mormons: As of today, there has yet to be any archaeological evidence that the Book of Mormon is historically accruate. The Bible has that…the BOM does not.
Be fooled no longer by the words of that book.

Support that with a Biblical verse. Where does Jesus say he wants to hear our personal praises and concerns.
And why is it not personal for someone to pray what others have prayed before. You can make anything pesonal if you so wish.
I am sure you have told someone “I love you”. Why use those words? Be original for heavens sake!
Psalm 139 says the Father already knows what we want to say before it is even on our lips.

Finally something I can agree with. ALMOST. If you lose the desire to do a lot of things that are considered sinful when you become a Christian, then explain why the whole lot of us Christians are still terribly sinful.

Just created this thread to link away from mine which is being hijacked so they can continue their debate and tear each other apart within it.,
This is going to be a thread that will have no real topic to it, so there is no way to go off topic, it will be where I point people to that insist upon tearing each other down, tearing each others views down, tearing each others perspectives, and in general, showing as a shining example of how we are not in any way kind to each other and the use of tact is entirely optional.

Well, the original intent of the OP was not fun
. So I must say that CI has a point.Besides, since when has defending ones faith been considered “tearing each other apart?”. It is more like tearing each others’ belief apart to get to the truth.
Notice everyone, the thread has managed to not go down the heated path because we have not discussed doctrine.
And this is what is really sad, that once we bring into play the basic tenets of our faith, the fun and games cease.
But faith is not fun and games. Faith is serious stuff. So i would not even dare poke fun at my own faith as someone suggested.
Apropos my assent to Nsper7’s suggestion that everyone convert to the Catholic faith.
It is not a co-incidence that converts and re-verts refer to their experience as COMING HOME.
This will be understandable in a re-vert (after all he/she has been there before so it is indeed a coming home.
But how to explain this from the convert’s point of view? There must be something deeply ingrained in us Christians that recognizes this fact once we have crossed the threshold, that the Catholic Church is indeed HOME, the Household of God. And as sons and daughters (of the Prodigal variety
) of a very Prodigal God, our rightful place is indeed God’s household.So there, I have just put a damper on your party spirit.
