Quote:
Move over, Dr. Phil, there’s a new relationship expert in town.

He’s Saudi author and cleric, “Dr.” Muhammad Al-'Arifi, who in a remarkable segment broadcast on Saudi and Kuwaiti television in September, counseled young Muslim men on how to treat their wives.

“Admonish them – once, twice, three times, four times, ten times,” he advised. “If this doesn’t help, refuse to share their beds.”

And if that doesn’t work?

“Beat them,” one of his three young advisees responded.

“That’s right,” Al-'Arifi said.

He goes on to calmly explain to the young men that hitting their future wives in the face is a no-no.

“Beating in the face is forbidden, even when it comes to animals,” he explained. “Even if you want your camel or donkey to start walking, you are not allowed to beat it in the face. If this is true for animals, it is all the more true when it comes to humans. So beatings should be light and not in the face.”

His final words of wisdom?

“Woman, it has gone too far. I can’t bear it anymore,” he tells the men to tell their wives. "If he beats her, the beatings must be light and must not make her face ugly.

"He must beat her where it will not leave marks. He should not beat her on the hand… He should beat her in some places where it will not cause any damage. He should not beat her like he would beat an animal or a child – slapping them right and left.

“Unfortunately, many husbands beat their wives only when they get mad, and when they start beating, it as if they are punching a wall – they beat with their hands, right and left, and sometimes use their feet. Brother, it is a human being you are beating. This is forbidden. He must not do this.”

My grandpa was Catholic and kicked the snot out of his entire family routinely.

I’m sure there are plenty of Muslim clerics that don’t condone beating their wives. But it is curious why it would state this is a directive from the mouth of God in their Holy book. I’m not devout with ay religion and I’m pretty certain if there is a “God” like people describe around here he definitely doesn’t want us beating our wives at all.

All religions and holy texts are man made and full of errors, this is just one more proof in a long line of them.

This statement is presumptive and dogmatic enough to be a “religion” in itself, IMO.
No that statement is just a simple fact. SInce all holy texts are written by men, and all religions are lead by men, they are all undoubtedly full of errors and man made. Since men are far from perfect it’s a very simple conclusion to come to.

“Spare the rod and spoil the child” comes to mind as a Christian bible verse routinely used by those good Christians (and probably Jews) who tend to ‘beat the snot’ (as you so vividly put it) out of others.

Just shows how the Devil can indeed cite scripture for his own purposes, obviously not a problem unique to Islam. In both cases the problem isn’t so much the texts themselves as the blinkers of the people reading 'em.

So you believe in God, but you apparently believe it’s somehow beyond his power to protect certain teachings of a religion from error. Yeah that makes a lot of sense.

The difference is that the Qu’ran expressly states that a husband may beat his wife.

Just another example of Islam’s “special” view of women.

So you believe a Church and religion is perfect even though there’s not enough Whiskey in Ireland to number the amount of errors it has made? Yeah that makes a lot of sense?

The Bible has errors plenty of them, that is a fact. All Churches and religions have made terrible errors that is a fact. I think if God were going to miracle a perfect book and a religion to mankind it would be far different than anything we see today. We definitely won’t see rapist priests, crusades, inquisitions, suicide bombers, militant zionists, endless division and contradictions etc… from it.

OK what happend? This is the talk of a bitter, ticked off individual. I’m sure you got a good reason to be upset, but this is straying of the thread’s original course. Heck message me or start a new thread. Perhaps we can help lessen the pain that’s evident here. Remember the problem with the Catholics are the Catholics themselves (a good paraphrase by Fr. Groeschel). Their beliefs are sound.

Islam was certainly an improvement over original Arabic religion, which basically treated women as slaves.

RedSoxFan beat me to it, but your bitter and unsubstantiated replies make it pretty evident that you aren’t capable of discussing this rationally… not in the state you’re in right now. So whatever perceived injuries you have projected onto “religion”, please save them for your therapist.

How come Muslims who say that Islam is peaceful never do anything to protest their fellow brethren blowing things up? You don’t see mass protests in Iraq speaking out against the violence.🤷

The phrase is not in the Bible. It’s from “Hudibras” by Samuel Butler

:dancing:

However there’s similar verses in the OT as opposed to your Christian claims
“He who spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is careful to discipline him. Proverbs 13:24 (NIV)”.

“Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you punish him with the rod, he will not die. Punish him with the rod and save his soul from death.” Proverbs 23:13-14

but then we Christians are told to love everyonem not just our neighbours

What we need to establish is what Peace means to the Islamist. We know what peace means. Peace means we get along with those who are alike and disimilar with us in a varied world and do so in a peaceful way. Does this word “Peace” as we perceive it,have the same meaning in Islam? THIS IS THE DEFININIG MEANING. Well? Do Muslim view peace as living along side of those who disagree with you and yet tolerate you and not persecute you?

Save the psycho-babble guy, my response was fine, if you have an issue with it, report it and see if the moderator feels it’s against the T.O.S. otherwise enough with your personal commentary on me, that isn’t what the board is for.
