Is the young boy a candidate for Sainthood?

I’m a bit confused about this one because I went to the website dedicated to Mattie J. T. Stepanek and it doesn’t mention anywhere that he is a candidate for Sainhood nor does it mention anything about him being Catholic. :confused:

Unless, I’m missing something. 🤷

On the other hand, sadly we watched my (maternal) grandma slowly slip away from Alzheimer’s Disease and she passed away 2 years ago on the Feast Day of St. Anthony of Padua.

As for other “Unknown” Saints here are a few that haven’t been mentioned

If my “sense of the faithful” is on track,I too am so attracted to the life of Mattie Stepanek.Unlike the great ArchBishop Fulton J.Sheen, Mattie’s cause has not the resources behind him to gather evidence about his short heroic life of suffering–in,with & through Jesus.It might take the miraculous conversion to the Catholic Faith of someone like Oprah or Jimmy Carter!! As for being a Catholic,perhaps this poem written by him might give you a clue–
When I Die (Part II)
When I die, I want to be
A child in Heaven.

A ten-year-old cherub.
I want to be
A hero in Heaven,

Without turning this into a theological debate, your question is worthy to ponder.I was reading today a short spiritual Canticle of Saint John Of The Cross.I believe it answers, why we need and admire a vast array of holy women & men, who lived a heroic life of virtue.I believe that they can help us understand the depths of Christ ,who is so vast in holiness, that not one person can mirror them all. Here is part of this article–

“Would that men(women) might at last understand that it is impossible to attain to the thicket of manifold riches of the wisdom of God without entering into the thicket of manifold suffering,making that its consolation and desire.And how the soul which really longs for divine wisdom first longs for suffering,that it may enter more deeply into the thicket of the cross”.
For this reason Saint Paul encouraged the Ephesians not to loose heart in tribulations,but to be strengthened,and rooted in love,that they might have power to comprehend with all the saints what is the breath and length and height and depth;and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge,that they might be filled with all the fullness of God.For the gate whereby one may enter into these riches of his wisdom is the narrow gate of the cross.Many long for the delights to which that gate leads:but few they are indeed who are prepared to pass through it."

Hence why we need the example of the saints ,to help us overcome our fear of sufferings and to see what bliss their lives turned into, when they arrived in Heaven!! “If they can do it–so can I”(Saint Ignatius of Loyola)
 
Can I focus on the Church in China( I recently read about these would be saints in a publication called China Exchange edited by Fr.Paul McGee(now no longer published)—75 years ago Bishop Frans Schravens was murdered along with eight other europeans by Japanese soldiers in Zhengding,Hebei province in northern China on October 9,1937,during the Second Sino-Japanese War.In the incident known as “Massacre of Zhengding Church”.The deaths were believed to be in retaliation for the clerics’refusal to provide the Japanese invaders with 200 young “comfort” women.Of the nine martyrs,seven were members of the Congregation of the Mission (Lazarists_-Bishop Schraven,four priests and two brothers.One was a Trappist Monk and one was a layman.At present the Msgr.Schraven Foundation in the Netherlands,headed by the local Bishop has asked the Holy See for permission to start the beatification process.

Wow! What a beautiful poem by Mattie and what a very touching and edifying testimony from his mom. I absolutely love it.

One Saint I recently discovered and loved automatically is St. Pompilio Maria Pirrotti who had a great devotion to the Holy Souls in Purgatory.

I found out about St. Pompilio Maria Pirrotti from a Free Catholic Magazine I receive from Italy called, " Il Rosario e la Nuova Pompei" I will gladly give you the contact address for the Magazine if you PM me.
St. Pompilio Maria Pirroti had a great devotion for the poor souls. When he prayed the rosary, the holy souls prayed along with him, shouting in response to each Hail Mary recited. The souls in Purgatory were tranquil and full of joy while the rosary was prayed.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful holy young Jesuit with us on this thread.His life story must be hated by the evil one, as their are sites which put a "twist"to Bl. Bernardo’s Mystical Marriage Experience.These same sex attracted “gay rights”-- “christian” lobbies should understand that a mystical experience is an out of the body type of spiritual union and not on the same plane physically.

I have read some of the magazines called in English The “New Pompeii” and I would agree with you that it has some fine articles in it.My parents have been to the shrine of The Basilica of Our Lady of Pompeii and I also noted that the new "Australian"House in Rome is dedicated under the same title.Thanks for the links and information on Blessed Peter & St.Pirrotti–both very inspirational.

One of my favorite saints is Peter the Aleut, also known as Cungagnaq:



He’s an Orthodox saint, not a Catholic one (in fact it was the Spanish Catholic missions that martyered him) but I still have a place for him in my heart. Does anyone know if this is allowed for a Catholic? Becuase if not, maybe it’s a sign that I should start looking into the Orthodox Church?

I looked up St.Theodore and now I know a least a little about this great saint of the East (the left lungs of The Church as Blessed John Paul 11 put it).You never told what attraction drew you to have devotion to this Saint.Since I suspect that a lot would be in the same boat of ignorance about St.Theodore,below is a good link(and short to boot–for the lazy posters like me–or pressed for time,as I still keep my day job!:D)

mmmmmm? Well my friend,you certainly know how to bowl a curved ball(aussie/english cricket term-a ball the turns suddenly, when it hits the ground, as it has a spin on it and usually is deadly to the batsman–unless he “reads” the ball!)

All Catholics look forward to the day when The Orthodox Church will again be reconciled to The Bishop Of Rome–The Holy Father–The Rock Of Saint Peter.Certainly these good people are the closest in their beliefs and the Roman Church (the right lung) would be so much richer and stronger when It can breath from both lungs.This is why the Ecumenical movement between these two Churches is important and we Catholics pray constantly that “they might all be one”. I am sure that when this happens The See of St.Peter will look at your Peter–if all the signs of holiness are there,he would be included into the Liturgical Calender of Saints.

So if you are looking for a sign–are you looking for an authentic sign which will lead you to Rome or maybe in your confusion,you mind will “spin” on a tangent?

What drew me was the really cool name! Some saints are so memorable because of their names. Like St. Christina the Astonishing.
 
I have found many of the holy people here to be interesting! I had never heard of - Augustine Tolton, Elisabeth Leseur, Bl. Fr. Leopoldi, St. Oswald and St Christina the Astonishing, and I enjoyed all of their stories.

Personally my more unusual saint (perhaps), is St Damien of Molokai. He was a Belgian priest who volunteered to serve on the island of Molokai in Hawaii, knowing that it was a leper colony. The people there had no system of government and he established churches and hospitals and housing for them. After years there, St Damien contracted leprosy himself, and died in 1889.

What draws me to him is how selfless he was, risking his physical health to aid ill people and spread the Gospel to those who were outcasts. He is an example to us all, I think.

O God, who called the Priest Saint Sharbel Makhūf to the solitary combat of the desert and imbued him with all manner of devotion, grant us, we pray, that, being made imitators of the Lord’s Passion, we may merit to be co-heirs of his Kingdom.

👍 we are all different,I knew a woman who bet on a horse because of the name! As long as you go beyond the initial attraction and you imitate their virtues and life lessons! What about Bruce the Bold?:D(do not worry–not a saint–I think!:D)

I know a priest friend (Lebanese/Irish parentage) who told me about your saint–had great devotion to The Blessed Eucharist from memory.Thank you for sharing this wonderful saint herewith us here on CA.
There are other wonderful saints coming from The Maronite Lebanese Catholic Tradition such such as Sts. Rafca &Nimatullah .I have a prayer card from both of these that touched their relics.

I visited a good friend of mine on Saturday who originally came from the country of Slovenia and he told me of Bishop Frederick Baraga.(Tony naturally is very proud of his fellow countryman.)The Bishop was a missionary to the Great Lakes of America and his pastoral work among the American Indians.He has been raised Venerable and is on the way to sainthood,this link also has a religious sister mentioned.
