There would be a national uproar if Moses and the Commandments were stricken from the SC building, that is why the supremes took the cowards way out…as usual.

richardols,

I agree completely that the commandments are not a founding document, yet I also think it is sheer nonsense to keep the commandments out of the public arena. To some degree or another the commandments are significant to all Christians, Jews and Muslims…that accounts for over 90% of this nation and something like 65-70% of the world’s total population. I would say that the commandments most definitely have a place in our schools and in our court houses.

It is not a matter of the commandments being a foundation of our nation…it is a matter of recognizing the historical importance of the commamdments to this nation and to the founding fathers. Europe is dying and they have quite dilibererately erased any mention of their faith history from the public record. We will see a continuing of Europe’s decline until they wake-up.

Considering the commandments cross many faiths, I cannot see how anyone can conclude that posting them is an endorsement of any religion.
I agree that the COMMANDMENTS cross many faiths. But, we must remember that they are not “word for word” or even numbered the same in each of these religions. So which version or versions should we use:hmmm: .

Please do not get me wrong. If I had my way the 10 Commandments would be posted in and at every school room, public gathering etc. I just don’t know how we can force people to believe and follow what they say. This comes from inside us and comes from family and Church teaching.

No nitpicking at all. Either the United States was founded on the basis of the Bible or it was not. And, it was not.
This is nothing more than your opinon as you continue to say it without providing any evidence to support your position.

Abraham Lincoln was not in our founding documents. Should we take down all images of him?

Kathleen,

I know of no posting of the commandments that has forced anyone to obey God’s laws. They are simply a visual reminder of the type of people we are. I really do not care which version of the commandments are posted.

I’ve probably past millions of sayings, religous and otherwise, in locations all over - and never once did I think I had to obey them. These types of rulings just demonstrate how “uneducated” the judicial elite believes the masses are.

Brad,

Did you read my post #22? I make it fairly clear that I feel that the commandments should be allowed in court houses and in schools as well…not sure where you are coming from on the Abraham Lincoln comment.

For anyone doubting the importance of God and Christianity to the country’s founding fathers, check this out:

Among many others, here is a very good quote:

James Madison, the primary author of the Constitution of the United States, said this: “We have staked the whole future of our new nation, not upon the power of government; far from it. We have staked the future of all our political constitutions upon the capacity of each of ourselves to govern ourselves according to the moral principles of the Ten Commandments.”

Actually, I was advancing your position, not refuting it. 👍

Real men.

I do agree completely (as you know, I have been saying similar things for about a year now).

I really do fear that a Divine Chastisement of this nation is approaching very quickly…I fear what world my children will have to journey through.

When I view this mess, it makes me recall how the Jews had a hardening of their hearts towards the truth of who Jesus really is. It seems very similar today, in that so many people have a hardening of their hearts towards the truth…lies are now routinely being called truths, and truths are now routinely being call lies. Good is bad abd bad is good.

So true. Perhaps we are going through the chastisement and don’t realize it. We often get what we want - our perverse desires act to bring ourselves down.

**So then maybe we should spend our time and money teaching the 10 Commandments instead of spending the time and effort on trying to change the SC. Until there is an opening or two on the court we are stuck.

Must admit I want the Commandments as written in the Catholic bible and taught in CCD.

I pray that GWBush gets two pro-life and pro conservatives on the COURT ASAP. This should make things better for us mostly conservatives. (a few things I don’t agree with thus the mostly)😉

Brad,

I fear we are merely ending a period of fairly strong chastisement…if we learn and turn, that chastisement might be lessened, but we will go through a very tough road ahead. Our Lady has promised an era of peace, and Catholic prophecies often speak of that peace happening after a chastisement of possibly varying severity…I fear we have not learned much and our chastisement will be quite painful.

Kathleen,

I agree…the commandments should be taught. I also would prefer the Catholic version…yet the Protestant or Jewish versions would work also.

I hope the GOP has the guts to install some true prolife judges…we will see what happens, and we will see if they are even given a chance.

The issues are not:

If the commandments are an “endorsement” of religion (whatever that means, the term is extra-constitutional)

What version of the commandments to use.

If America was founded on Christian principles.

There is only one issue: the free exercise of religion.

Until the ACLU and other liberal groups shopped around to find activist Federal judges, Americans could put anything they wanted on courthouse walls, in the lobby, on the lawn outside, on the roof, in the bathrooms without an unelected Federal judge to force them to take it down. My parents could. My great-grandparents could. My ancestors going back to 1812–the first we know of anyone being here–could.

Until secular humanists, marxists, liberals and others hostile to faith started suing, no-one noticed what my ancestors had done (or may have done, I don’t know) was unconstitutional.
