The other elephant they are ignoring is the implication of this suit.

If SCOTUS were to hear it (they won’t), it would open the door to every state suing every other state over “constitutional violations.”

California would sue every state that prevents LGBT friendly lesson being taught in schools (free speech!), Oregon would sue every state that has “In God We Trust” on their seal (freedom of religion!), New York would sue every state that places any barriers to voting (equal protection!).

The floodgates would open in a way that they could never be closed.

No one should want this at all.
Texans don’t realize the precedence they are attempting to set. They can’t see the forest for the trees.

Texas alleges the other states changed election laws due to the pandemic without the legislature’s blessing. You know one state not being sued that did that? Texas.
Texas could not even get its Solicitor General — the man who argues on behalf of the state before the Supreme Court — to sign onto the lawsuit. That’s how frivolous it is.
That is just as telling.

No, what Texas seeks is for the Supreme Court to mandate that the defendant states comply with the Constitution, and that means that electors are selected by the states’ legislatures.

Hmmm. What party controlsl the state legislatures in PA, GA, MI and WI?
They want to change the rules because they lost. FYI, the state legislators will choose electors, but the do so based on the popular vote in their state. That is the way democracy works.

Yes, the GOP is now the hottest bed of sedition in the world. I will not ever vote for Paxton again, or Ted Cruz. Cornyn has not supported this coup, though, as have others who have shown a belief in the rule of law and respect for the Constitution.

No doubt. These sort of actions always boomerang.

Yes. In addition to sedition, the GOP is setting a whole new standard on corrupt political hypocrisy. Like I said, they want to change the rules after the election was lost. And it was lost. That is not even debatable now that the votes are all certified. They just want it thrown out.

@Victoria33 if Trump won, why is Melania shipping her personal effects to Mar-a-Lago? Seems kind of a strange thing to do unless they’re moving the White House to Florida.

I am not sure this is true.

Many states have had their elections scrutinized by the Justice Dept to ensure civil rights were not infringed. The Supreme Court ended that a few years ago.

Now Texas wants to supervise the electoral process in other states? Or they want a precedent that individual states are not subject to supervision from other states so that they will not have to return to supervision?

Sounds too clever for the Tx attorney general. Never mind.

Why don’t we let Texas run every state’s elections, if they’re so concerned.

Yes

Just quite the opposite. If SCOTUS hears this, then it opens the flood gate for any State to Challenge any State on any matter they choose and have the case sent directly to SCOTUS.
