Texas Gov. Rick Perry Entering 2012 Race

Then why an executive order? Why not have it as an option? If he is a small government conservative who believes in personal liberty (which he claims he is) why would he pass such a bill that interferes with personal liberties and parents raising their kids?

There’s also the fact that when he signed the order the drug testing wasn’t positive and a few people died during testing. If I’m a small government, personal liberty conservative governor I would not sign an executive order forcing young girls to receive vaccinations that caused deaths during testing, especially when it was a new vaccine. But he did. And a few girls ended up dying in Texas because of it.

Then there’s connections to him and the vaccine’s makers, Merck & Co… Merck has donated to Gov. Perry’s campaign. His former chief of staff is one of three Merck lobbyists in the state of Texas. His current chief of staff’s mother-in-law is a member of Women in Government.

When I heard of this story and looked it up I became disgusted by Gov. Perry and what he did. Little girls died.

He is not a true small government, personal freedom conservative.
 
He also “attempted” to pass an anti-TSA bill in Texas. While he said in public he was a supporter of the bill, behind the scenes he worked to defeat it and then say, “Oh well, I tried.”

Just a regular old establishment politician.

And Texas was threatened with NO PLANES flying into Texas… so … yeah… it didnt go through.
Would you have liked a no fly zone over Texas?

Yeah. he tried and he also brought alot of attention to the groping TSA .
Good for him.

I am a Ron Paul supporter. And no, I am not from Texas, but that has nothing to do with that.

As a love of liberty I really really do not like his involvement with Gardasil. The vaccine has caused abortions and deaths. Mandating it is against personal liberty.

He has also flip flopped the last couple of weeks moving away from a state’s rights solution to social problems to a federal solution to these issues.

I’m just saying that if he is the nominee I would be wary of voting for him. I still wouldn’t vote for Obama. Honestly, I’m just tired of establishment candidates.
 
Welcome to the race, gov. Perry. My dog and cat will make an announce too, after September 11. No worries, they are over 35 years old, combined. Funny how people REALLY care about others!! By the way, what’s the limit of candidates?? You know, for entering the race?

So far, I am a little wary of him as well. You hit it right on!!! The establishment candidates have worn out their welcome. That being said, he would have my vote over Obama, but I would hold my nose through it. My evaluation could very well change…we are just getting started, a lot could happen in a year. This is what the campaign is for…to vet the candidates. And I really wish more people in this country would actually “vet” them thoroughly, instead of being drawn by their charisma in front of a camera. We really don’t need any more super stars in the Oval Office.:rolleyes:

Even in some circles in Texas, Aggies are regarded as hicks. It is easy to see what sort of campaign David Axelrod and his associates will gin up against Perry. It will draw on the instinctive bigotry that made it so easy to demonize Lyndon Baines Johnson and the younger Bush. Obama cannot run on his record. To win, he must demonize the alternative. It is going to be ugly.” On the other hand, after the Obama era, Ivy League credentials may not have quite the cachet they had in the 1990s. But Rahe has some advice for Perry on how to counter this.

Thank you for your honesty. We will have to see how things shake out with Perry. I notice he doesn’t have an On the Issues page up yet.
 
Hurray. Another “cut from the cloth” Good Old Boy Republican entering the race to take the place of the one that dropped out.
