Ah yes–in your eyes, you see error. In my eyes, I see someone bearing false witness against Christ’s Church.I do not see how I could be a Christian and allow such error to continue without saying something.

Oh man…Lol. It just never ends.Perhaps Mum has read scripture, took a look around her Catholic church, and wondered how it could have drifted so far away from what the Bible teaches. As Catholicism has drifted further away from biblical truth by adding layers and layers upon the message of Christ, it looks less and less like the church he founded. Thankfully many are finding the truth within the Holy Bible.
Unless you’re willing to anoint yourself Pope, I find it highly odd that you, as a Protestant, would presume to say what the Bible teaches when the thousands of Protestant denominations cannot agree among themselves on a single matter in the Bible. The matter becomes even more chaotic when the issue at hand isn’t covered by the Bible.… drifted so far away from what the Bible teaches. .
Why would I appoint myself something I do not believe is biblical?Unless you’re willing to anoint yourself Pope, I find it highly odd that you, as a Protestant, would presume to say what the Bible teaches when the thousands of Protestant denominations cannot agree among themselves on a single matter in the Bible. Face it: Sola Scriptura is a dismal failure that keeps on failing.
Persuasive, very persuasive. I just may change my mind on mum’s departure after weighing this one.Let me see then…
I think Mum is making the right choice.
I know my rules and what I can and cannot say.Persuasive, very persuasive. I just may change my mind on mum’s departure after weighing this one.![]()
You wrongfully and arbitrarily assume such authority because of the unbiblical invention of Martin Luther called Sola Scriptura. Why would I appoint myself something I do not believe is biblical?
You know, you should join the Foundations thread. You wrongfully and arbitrarily assume such authority because of the unbiblical invention of Martin Luther called Sola Scriptura.

Why are you right about your personal interpretation of Scripture when other Protestants are wrong?
That’s OK, I wasn’t following it and it is too long now for my tastes. You know, you should join the Foundations thread.
Thats sad -you are leaving the One True Church founded by Jesus Christ becuase the people at another Church seem “nicer”. You are trading the TRUTH for emotion.I’ve enjoyed being with you for the last year but I have decided to leave the Catholic church and get a believer’s baptism in a church that does not weigh it’s members down with man-made rules that cannot be found in the Bible and legalism. Just wanted to let you know. God is good and I have never known Him like this before.
That reminds me of a question, why is your interpretation of what is religious truth different from my interpretation? Catholics interpret too you know. That’s OK, I wasn’t following it and it is too long now for my tastes.
I’m still wondering why your personal interpretation of Scripture is right when other Protestants are wrong.
That reminds me of a question, why is your interpretation of what is religious truth different from my interpretation? Catholics interpret too you know.
I do not agree with that statement. If the Catholic church were true it never would have failed. Christ promised this. So your interpretation of what that church meant is the problem.QUOTE=DeFide]1. You ignored the question of why Sola Scriptura keeps on failing.
Catholics do this as well. Just like official Catholic doctrine is true, despite what many of your priests, theologians, and laity believe, so the Bible is true, despite what man may do to it.
- Catholics interpret within the allowable boundaries of the Catholic faith vouched safe by Christ himself. Protestants have no such boundaries and thus twist scripture in thousands of ways that it was not intended by God. Contradictory interpretations cannot all be true.
Peace.I’ve got way more than 19 posts. I have hundreds. I had a problems when I was registering so ended up with two as I had to try twice. This is the one I signed in with today although I wasn’t sure which one was going to be coming up.
OK, to answer:
No, I do not and never have believed in the real presence.
We have ONE mediator with God and that is Jesus. Not a priest. I do not need a priest to confess. Legalism - where does it say in the Bible that if you don’t go to church on a particular Sunday you go to hell if it is not confessed?
I like going to the other church because I am tired of the apathy I find in the Catholic church, from lay people and priests alike. Why is it that other more evangelical churches are on fire for Christ while in the Catholic church, you’re lucky if you can get half the congregation kneeling when they should? Young people sitting slumped IF there are any young people at all? Not in the other church. And my children are now excited about church and learning so much. Much better than Sunday morning complaining.
I can go to a woman’s study group once a week and I can learn about the Bible. It’s solid. They are actually reaching out to the congregation. And there is a real community. People actually care if you are there or not. By the time I’d been going a few weeks I knew more people there than I did in the Catholic church because they were interested. The opportunities just weren’t there in any neighbouring parishes.
If the Catholic church does it for you, that’s great, be where God wants you to be. But I sense that God wants me elsewhere now.
I’m not making an announcement. I am sharing since I have shared with many of you in many ways over the last year or so.
As far as obedience, this, and getting baptised, IS an act of obedience. It is very humbling to get up and get baptised, as Jesus commanded believers to do, at my age. His will not mine be done.
Obviously there’s much more too it but this is just part of it.
The Church didn’t fail. Human nature failed the Church. The Church is still here. There are just thousands of reinventions out there because of the sinfulness of man.I do not agree with that statement. If the Catholic church were true it never would have failed. Christ promised this. So your interpretation of what that church meant is the problem.
You’re not making sense. How can you not “agree” with a question?I do not agree with that statement. If the Catholic church were true it never would have failed. Christ promised this. So your interpretation of what that church meant is the problem.

The premise was that Sola Scripture failed.QUOTE=DeFide]You’re not making sense. How can you not “agree” with a question?
We believe that scripture is the final authority. I have not ignored anything. Why is your personal interpretation of Scripture right when other Protestants are wrong? You’ve ignored this question over and over and over again.
Oh. Well, it appears there are more heretics than Catholics in your church then.Catholics do what as well? Catholics do not purport that interpretations contrary to Catholic teaching are correct. Heretics do that.
We have a definitive guide. You rely on traditons from sources you cannot identify while we trust the writings of the men who knew Jesus. You really should join the foundations thread, I know it is long but is Truth worth it?Once again, we are back to the question of why your personal interpretation of Scripture is correct when other Protestants are wrong. How do you know? How are YOU different than them? Are you going to ignore the question for the umpteenth time?
