From Mark 9:

38 9 John said to him, “Teacher, we saw someone driving out demons in your name, and we tried to prevent him because he does not follow us.”

39 Jesus replied, "Do not prevent him. There is no one who performs a mighty deed in my name who can at the same time speak ill of me.

40 For whoever is not against us is for us.

41 Anyone who gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to Christ, amen, I say to you, will surely not lose his reward.

And the point is???

Strange. When I converted from Lutheranism to Catholicism, for some reason I felt no need to send parting shots on the way out.

The Church didn’t fail. Human nature failed the Church. The Church is still here. There are just thousands of reinventions out there because of the sinfulness of man.
Thats right, the church did not. What you define as the Church did though. It could not stand up to scrutiny when the scriptures became more avaliable to people.

When did the Bible become available to the masses?

Peace.

That is a very interesting statement. What is it about Catholics that make them so hateful toward Catholicism if they leave? Is it because they have received a large dose of Catholic misinformation from non-Catholics and feel duped by the Catholic Church? That the Catholic Church, somehow, lied to them? Is it because they want to rationalize their reasons for leaving? Did they feel controlled and manipulated by the Catholic Church?

Peace.

Yup, you ignored the question for the umpteenth time. Why don’t you just say “I don’t know”?

Unlike the Church, the Bible cannot tell three Protestants with contradictory interpretations which is correct because the Bible is not a person. The Bible cannot knock the other two (or maybe all three) Protestants on the head and say, “You are interpreting me wrong!”.

Since all the contradictory personal interpretations of Scripture by Protestants cannot all be correct, Sola Scriptura has failed innumerable times.

I think it is a call for scriptural anarchy (interpret as you wish because we are all guided by the Holy Spirit) or we can all create our own churches.

Which Scriptures? The ones Luther took apart and rearranged?

Very few are “hateful,” but it gets under our skin when somebody ignorant of Catholicism jumps ship and starts firing back at us. Every time one of these people run to a new church and proclaim how great it is to finally know Jesus, they reinforce the LIE that Catholicism somehow doesn’t know Christ.

Basically, it creates a lot of work for us stupid enough to do apologetics.

Also, humility goes a long way, and when someone is both ignorant and smug, and perpetuates lies and steretypes about us, we get a little “tense.”

Why should I care about Luther? If it had not been Luther, it would have been hundreds of others, Luther was wrong about so many things why should I care what he thought? Catholicism failed because it could not stand up to the scrutiny.

And now we’ve gone down the rabbit hole.

Failed? Please step away from the glue…

Good point. I am always amazed at some former Catholics who wave their credentials as such and yet are cosmically incapable of correctly articulating a single Catholic teaching. This may speak to the horrible scandalous state of catechisis in the Church, but it has little to do with the actual teachings.

That reminds me of a question, why is your interpretation of what is religious truth different from my interpretation? Catholics interpret too you know.
I suggest that you go and read carefully the writings of the early church fathers and see if what you believe and what your church teaches aligns with the interpretation of the Word of God that those holy and brave martyrs gave their lives for.

Yep we interpret…but we check against the guys who were discipled by the apostles…you base yours on what limited understanding you have or upon what some modern day preacher says who, (in most cases) wouldn’t know Ignatius of Antioch & Polycarp from Mickey Mouse and Fred Flintstone.

Who was closer to the source? Certainly not some guy who dreamed up some new winds of doctrine 500 years ago, or worse, still one of his modern post reformation offspring!

Thats kinda the way I took it-it seemd to be an attempt to claim that Christian Faiths are interchangeable.

I dont beleive they are and i also believe, as our Church Teaches, that one who leaves the Church is at greater risk than one who never belonged in the first place.

Jesus was a failure? Now that is an interesting theology.

Trash! The only thing that has failed…(and terribly so!) is the myriad of n-C churches that are tossed around with every wind of doctrine and yet stand before those who remain faithful to our most holy faith and assert that they have not. You steal sheep from each other and few of you can peach the gospel without bashing the Catholic Church or some other group of believers for not being likwithing Christianity. THOUSANDS of divergent churches and teachings and foolishly asserting that there is such a thing as absolute truth while then immediately telling the world that some aspects of Christian faith are not really even necessary for salvation. Thus telling them that absolute truth is not really important.

Errors, deceptions, and egos…and absymal ignorance of Christianity…all the while waving a Bible and pounding their pulpits.

Been there, done that, It’s DEAD wrong.
No thanks!

The man that founded your religion is even further from the Truth than Luther was. What is the church you go to again?

Please don’t tell me the founder of your Church was Jesus, by the way. He only founded one Church and it wasn’t the “denomination” you belong to.

Which of God’s laws don’t you think He’s really serious about?
I think of this when I hear “we agree on the essentials” from NCCs.

I wonder why God would bother revealing something to us that wasn’t essential?

What could someone hear revealed from God that we can take or leave?

We have a definitive guide. You rely on traditons from sources you cannot identify while we trust the writings of the men who knew Jesus.
A number of men knew Jesus. Why do you trust in a certain set of writings of a selected few who knew Him? Why do you trust in a set of writings by a man who only came to know Jesus after He was resurrected? Why do you trust in a New Testament book with uncertain authorship? You do so because, whether you know it or not, you presuppose the reliability and infallability of Sacred Tradition.

If you throw out Tradition, you must throw out your Bible.

Sources we cannot identify? You really should read up on Church hisory.
