Does Maureen Dowd consider herself a Catholic? I know, from occasionally reading her articles that her mother and brothers are strong and conservative (Republican) Irish Catholics–to her great dismay. What is her story? She is so shrill, I can’t stand reading her columns. Is she married? How old is she? Kids? If she only channeled her intelligence and sarcasm in a less aggressive way, she might be effective. She’s like a pit bull. 😦

Dowd speaks in detail about her conservative family members in this Booknotes interview with Brian Lamb. Her mother and brother are very conservative.

I think anyone who read the piece in Sunday’s (12/12) NY Times shares the disappointment. It was a clunker. And yes, Ms. Dowd has a sharp tongue, but since when was a milk-toast columnist a success? Hers is the first opinion piece I search out every week and I am rarely disappointed. Is she Catholic?! Who cares…I don’t need faith credentials to appreciate incisive writing skills nor do I need to agree with everything a columnist writes. If I don’t have that kind of congruence with my own spouse why should I expect it of some stranger?

Yep, she can be biting… but I liked it and find much truth in it.
