I have been into town this morning to do some shopping .

I spoke to Ingrid , a German lady who said that she isn’t interested in football but will be watching tonight because England are playing .

I spoke to a man whose two boys I used to teach , both getting into the school football team . He was confident that England will win 3-0 .

I was 20 when England won the cup in 1966 , but I have never witnessed the excitement there is this time round .

Is the fever pitch of the excitement due to this being a young team that people did not expect so much of? That they and their coach came out of nowhere to overachieve? And what will the letdown be like if they lose the semi-final to Croatia or the final to France? It must be a crushing responsibility to play on that team.

France versus Croatia! Yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss!!!

I don’t know if I can even watch the final! The semi-final was so exciting! Thank goodness we did not go to penalty kicks!

Are you a Croatia fan? I would have thought England v. France would have been the better match up. (Not saying Croatia didn’t deserve to win, just that from a marketing standpoint France v. England might have drawn a larger audience.)

I’m sorry, England fans. It was not to be, but your boys put on a fine show.

Well done Croatia , the better team on the night .

Well done England for putting some faith back into the national team .

I think France will still be the winner, but it would be a big mistake to discount Croatia. They are good!
I picked Belgium to win by a nose yesterday against France, and England to sock Croatia today (maybe on penalty kicks) so I’m giving up prognosticating.

Croatia was the better team and it was a deserved win. England did give it their all, so credit to them for that. This might be Croatia’s Cup, though the thought of that makes me slightly ill. It is a toss up if France can beat them. They were the stronger all over the field, no question; frankly they had a tougher time with Denmark and Russia.

Actually, no, I’m not. I’m Brazilian, so I was a Brazil fan, but when they were eliminated, my loyalties went to France since my dad had a bit of French in him, and I’ve lived in France. I just wanted Croatia to win this match because they were such underdogs. Everyone expects great things from England, Germany, Argentina, Brazil, but not Croatia.

Croatia is going to win the world cup. I read the palms of all the team members; it’s the same every time.

They’re punching above their weight for sure, but so were Belgium. I like Luka Modric, but I felt England (the country) needed this win more than Croatia.

I don’t see why France couldn’t beat them in the final.

I’m going with Belgium over England for third place. I’m usually pretty good at predicting. We’ll see if that hold this year. 😉

Have you seen the size of their feet? Of course, Croatia is going to win. The math backs it up.

That will be a good game. I like Belgium a lot. I still can’t believe they lost to France yesterday (whom I was officially ‘rooting for’).

Don’t underestimate Croatia. They are skilled and play to the death and are not above getting dirty. England just couldn’t match that - I don’t know if France can. After England got that first goal, it all seemed too effortless - the whole first half. Reminded me of France defending Belgium yesterday. However, Croatia came on in the second and England went into deer in the headlights mode. I think you have to FIGHT Croatia. France is about style, elegance, skill. We’ll see.

I wouldn’t dream of it! I think at this level sometimes superior strategy or even a bit of luck determines the outcome. Remember that even Russia held on to nearly oust Croatia until they lost on penalty kicks (which is always a bit arbitrary ultimately).
