I didn’t really enjoy it or think it was that interesting until the part where they break into the Seireitei, and the story started focusing on the soul reapers instead of Ichigo’s schoolmates. The only reason I even stuck it out till that point was because the first episodes I saw were from later on and I wanted to get all the backstory.

PS. I really don’t like Ichigo that much either lol
It’s funny but Bleach and Ichigo do not compare well to Yuu Yuu Hakusho and Urameshi Yuusuke, even though both are serious fighters. Ichigo seems psychotically violent even in the first ep while YYH manages to arouse sympathy for Yuusuke, even though he’s a self-styled punk and calls himself ‘the number-one delinquent’ of his high school.

Maybe it’s because we can see Yuusuke through Keiko’s eyes, and she knows the truth about him.

Then extend him the same courtesty and back off.
Um, I’m sorry what’s my disorder? Oh right. None.
Having scruples is not a virtue. Its high time you stop defending it and acting like it is. You’ll only encourage him and the irrational world views it produces (e.g. pentagrams are satanic symbols).

Seeing as how you like to defend stuff like Harry Potter (and the Fantasy genre in general), I don’t understand why you think Eagel won’t end up adopting the same views as the critics you’ve argued against. I mean, what with this tendency to see the occult in everything.

Since EW is not even suggesting that you not play a game with pentangles or whatever, why do you act as though he is?

He’s simply expressing his own misgivings, not demanding anything of you. I’m not sure where you got the fact that ‘having scruples’ isn’t a virtue, but why behave as though EW’s question was a personal attack?

Because he is implying that something is demonic and no, that is not expressing his misgivings and yes, it does come off as demanding. Can’t you see the parallel of what he says with guys like Jack Chick?

Not in the least.

Why does this disturb you so much? EW was just asking, not demanding.

How does seeing the demonic in every single fantasy symbol not sound like Jack Chick? Its quite obvious that using pentagrams in RPGs is A-okay because its just a friggin’ shape. No demons will come out and haunt you. It is not like using a ouija board. So hence, I have every right to tell him to keep his scruples in check.

Most curious, since it was neither a demand nor aimed at you.

Oyasumi nasai!

I watched almost all of the Wolf’s Rain series. I have the first complete collection but when I bought the second the first disc didn’t work. =( Ah, well, at least other two did.

It was a really good anime. I especially like Kiba and Tsume. Even though Kiba doesn’t see his pack as a pack, he defiantly is the leader of them. His love for Cheza really causes a tension between him and the pack but in the end it was Cheza who gave him the strength and courage tio press on in the most difficult of times.

Tsume is an interesting character. He sort of the angry loney type pf guy (you find a lot of those types in anime). Even though his attitude can really put tension in the pack, he’s as loyal as he can be.

Hige was pretty funny. He has this sort of comical role in the beginning of the story but as it progresses he becomes a more serious character.

Toboe was an interesting character. He was a wolf who was raised by an elderly woman so he is used to being around humans.

Blue is defiantly a character of interest. At first she works with a wolf hunter named Quent to hunt Kiba and his pack. Later she meets Cheza and she realizes she herself is half-wolf. Her bond with her and Quent becomes of the virge of breaking when Quent finds out.

Quent is a person who you can feel bad for even though he’s hunting the wolves. He lost his family and he thinks it was wolves who killed them. Ever since he’s been a drunken man armed with a hunting rifle on a quest to hunt every single wolf that still existing. You feel pity for him because he is just a lost man who is distraught after losing his wife and son.

Hub and Cher are two nice characters. When I saw them at first I didn’t think these two would play such a huge role but they were very important characters, esspecially near the end of the story.

Darcia… You feel bad for him because he just wants to be with his wife Homana, but after seeing some of the things he does and the pain he causes to others you end up to hoping for his downfall.

I didn’t like how lady Jagara was dressed. Why is it that the japanese have no problem making things look erotic? But other than that it was a really good anime. I actually got anxious to see how it ends and the least time I felt that excited was when I was watching LOTR: The Return of the King. I just wish that the first disc of the second season wasn’t damaged because I can’t say I saw the entire series.

I never really saw Wolf’s Rain apart from the intro, back when it was being shown on CN. How long a series was it?

I just watched Ponyo—enjoyed the first part, but the Disney communists may have tacked on a save-the-planet message that wasn’t in the original.

My Japanese isn’t good enough to know on just one viewing, but I did catch one or two obvious not-literal translations.
Excuse me, but… That’s complete nonsense, please educate yourself before posting… Miyazaki goes on, and on, and on about saving the environment in many of his films.
It’s layered on thick in Spirited Away, in Nausicaa…
Along with that, Miyazaki also manages to slip a strong anti-war message into any movie that doesn’t have the “save the planet” message, aswell as very strong feminist tones.
It was there from the beginning, Disney didn’t change anything.

While I do love some of his movies, his repetitiveness, and messages get old.

…

Anywho, on a current topic that people here are still actually discussing… Wolfs Rain is 30 episodes… but four of them are pure recap, and should be burned in a fire…

(And hello there, anyone mind if this protestant slips into your little anime thread and hangs out awhile? 🙂 )

I trust therefore you will take your own advice and reread my post. I made a valid statement. I speak a little Japanese and I refer to a particular speech in a particular movie.

Disney is openly pagan in its Gaia-worship. I don’t care what Wiki says about Miyazaki; I live behind my own eyes.

As to whether you ‘can hang out’ or not, please pull up a chair. We don’t check IDs at the door.

Sorry but I’m with him on this one. I hail Miyazaki as much as any other anime fan but it really is true regarding the themes of his movies. I’ve seen the Disney versions of Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, and a subbed version of Howl’s Moving Castle. Believe me, they are not censored and there is not much to deviate from in terms of translation. He really is a clear-cut anti-war environmentalist.

Yeeeeaaaaahhhh… But very few dubs translate directly: Dialogue actually has to be changed to fit with the lip flaps of the original animation.
No matter how you view Disney, you gotta admit… They’ve no reason for them to add something that was already there.

I’ve seen all of Miyazaki’s movies, and if there are a few things you can count on, they’ll be:
Save the forests.
Stop throwing your garbage in the river.
Guns are bad and kill people.
Blob monsters. (Okay, that last ones a bit silly, but they’re in Howls Moving Castle, Spirited Away, Mononoke there’s some blobby-ness in Nausicaa… Yeah.)

Personally, I didn’t like Ponyo. I rolled my eyes when I realized it was just more about the environment, and the same old same old that he’s always written.
I really prefer his older movies, like Nausicaa, Castle In The Sky, Kiki’s Delivery Service, and Princess Mononoke.

I’m really not sure on the medium as a whole…
Well you’re a parent and I can see why you are concerned. However, stuff like anime are just like comic books, video games, and movies. You really need to educate yourself well on the subject (or at the very least consider the words of experts and experienced enthusiasts) before you can exercise judgment.

Its not as hard as you think though. You can always just start with a request for recommendations. That’s how it always starts. 🙂

So you claim. But I see MANY more layers than just that—including Nausicaa as a Christ figure. Even if Miyazaki did not consciously mean it, it belittles the power of the Holy Spirit to discount the possibility.

That’s like looking at any cartoon and saying about the creator, ‘This guy is a clear-cut animationist!’

@ Suni: Once again, I invite you to actually read my posts. I can sometimes tell when the sub differs from the actual Japanese words. That’s all I said - no more and no less.

Yeah well if you like to read into things and have your own interpretation, that’s fine by me. I’m actually quite fond of putting forth reader-oriented theories in fiction myself.

Just respect the fact that we’re capable of reading meaning into it as well, even if it does differ from your understanding of a film.
