There’s a certain style we associate with manga, the big eyes, small nose and mouth, etc…
Although that’s generally just a generic ā€œmangaā€ style… Since manga just means comic in japanese, it’s not really that art style… I’ve seen a lot of variation with japanese manga…
But alot of original english language manga seems to have very similar art styles, copying the generic ā€œmangaā€ style that you see in mainstream anime.
Yes, and yes. If you’ll ask me, I’d say that there’s probably as many art styles as there are artists. No mangaka has an art style that is exactly the same as another one. And in some cases, they might even change their style a number of times in their career. Thus, speaking of a stereotypical ā€œmangaā€ style as some Westerners do is actually incorrect and rather ridiculous IMHO; kind of like speaking of a ā€˜Western’ style. 🤷
But, on other subjects… VEGETA, WHAT DOES THE SCOUTER SAY ABOUT YOUR SEASONIN-
You know, I should stop while I’m ahead. xD
It’s…1009. Sorry did I read that right?

BTW, one of the most strangest things I’ve ever discovered in my life is that the cult Aum Shinrikyo (infamous for the Sarin gas attack on the Tokyo subway in 1995) had made its own anime - for recruitment purposes - in its heyday…featuring sonshi Shoko Asahara. 😃

It’s actually as good as that march (with matching coreography) or that blatant Space Battleship Yamato rip-off that they’ve also come up with.
Though you’ve got to ask: does repeating your own name count as a chorus? Shōkō, Shōkō, Shōkō, Shōkō, Shōkō, Asahara Shōkōā€¦

Because as we all know, 4Kids is so allergic to anything that smacks of religion? 😃
4kids cracked me up with One Piece, more so than Yu Gi Oh.

In one of the episodes, they edit out something that vaguely, VAGUELY, resembles a cross.

… … … Then they add in a joke about Adam and Eve. In the same scene.
Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?

Actually, I’m a big time sucker for what is often called stereotypical ā€˜manga’ style. However, I actually prefer calling it the Moe-style cuz it’s kinda more fitting. Big eyes, round-faces, small nose and mouth, and -]nice bods/-] anatomically well-drawn figures… it’s cute, it’s kawaii, it’s… MOE!!! @w@

I prefer to stay happily amused with them. Plus Kenshin’s right, they handled Pokemon wonderfully way back when. Apart from the rice ball = donut stuff.
Which just led to confused little children thinking ā€œWHAT THE HECK- THOSE AREN’T DONUTS!ā€

Although I was a silly child, and never noticed.

But on the subject of saturday morning dubbed anime…

Ohhhhhh Fox Kids and your bright ideas.

That’s about the only thing I didn’t like about the 4Kids Pokemon: Those. Are. Not. Donuts!

I did a little artpiece today. Unfortuantly it became ruined when I attempted to do it with colored pencil. Nevertheless tell me what you think.

Maybe I’m easy, but I like the pic, Eagle’s Wings.

Gluttony! That’s who I meant! Thank you! I must have seen the Greed character in the episodes of FMA following here CN stopped to go back to the start.

Why, what went wrong? Colored pencil is about my favorite medium.
Well, the picture has more color to it than what you see here. My scanner didn’t pick it all up. I don’t know how to fix it so that it looks more coloful without ruining the pictures. I may have to start trying markers. If not, I’ll have to stick with digital coloring.

Naaah, keep at it—colored pencils are easier to master than markers. Stay with a light touch and follow the contours of your drawing to enhance it. Don’t try to shade over your base color—shade separately until you have the basics down.

Good luck.

Wanna show me some of yours?

Wanna show me some of yours?
Sure.

This one’s a bit odd, as it’s basically an ā€˜outline,’ but I like the effect:

A bit more conventionally done (but still on that gridded paper I like):

There are several good books on colored pencil techniques and probably also some web info.

PS: What I like about colored pencil is that you can have loose and sketchy effects or all across the spectrum to almost oil-paint intensity. And no set-up! 😃
