I like how at least two people have already rated this thread down for no reason. šŸ˜›

Probably people who didn’t even look at the thread, never watched an anime in their life, and the type of person who actually thinks stuff like ā€œall anime is pornā€ (yes, these people really do exist!)
Sad but true. That or there’s also the other extreme who think anime (being a cartoon) is ā€˜kid’s stuff’. I’d hate to see the looks on these people’s faces when they watch stuff like P&SwG. (Google it if you dare.)

Winnie the Pooh would sometimes say something is a bother, as does the hommunculus, Sloth, from Full metal Alchemist. The picture poster saw this too. I wonder if there was a coincidence? If not the writer of the work, the translator might have been a Winnie the Pooh fan.
It must be the translator; what Sloth’s really saying is ā€œmendokuseeā€, or ā€œsuch a hassleā€. I think it’s also the thing Shikamaru in Naruto says a lot.

Hilarious. Messed up. Occasionally moving. Fanservice in a work with a middle school demographic is something I’d just as soon do without.
I have only read the first few chapters and I don’t see much fanservice to be honest. :\

Yes, well I’ve read the first, oh, 100 or so, and every few chapters it has Nagi or one of her two (13-year-old) friends in a sultry pose as the frontispiece. It’s quite tasteful—indeed it’s practically a how-to of how to make something sexy without being brazen—but even that’s a bit much with a girl who ought to be in middle school.

Though its target audience is about that age, too.

I expected as much. Sounds good actually. I can’t say it bothers me as much seeing as how in the anime world,13-year-olds end up becoming more OP than adults twice their age. :\

So I dropped Hayate because I got sick of the fanservice and a general loss of interest. Are there any good titles around without fanservice?

Are there any good Spaghetti Westerns without violence?

Oh, wait, Spaghetti Westerns reminds me: Trigun pretty much has no fanservice. And the manga is vastly better than the anime (if you can follow Nightow’s weird art).

There’s very little fanservice in the anime ā€œGungraveā€, by the same guy.

But frankly, if you’re cutting out fanservice altogether you’re gonna miss some of the best things ever. GunXSword, for instance, is one of the most intelligent stories I’ve ever seen, but it has a lot of fanservice (let’s just say one of the characters calls herself ā€œCarmen 99ā€ā€”and 99 cm is 39 inches). Gurren Lagann is pure awesome—it actually posits ā€œawesomenessā€ as a law of physics—but the sniper lady might as well have been named ā€œMiss Fanserviceā€. Sora wo Kakeru Shojo (the Girl Who Leapt Through Space) has probably the most fanservicey spacesuits I ever saw, but it also has a raving egomaniacal space-station AI who’s responsible for some of the funniest monologues in the history of monologues (they’re also fairly researched, if you follow the speculations on space colonization).

I’ve seen the Trigun anime, I enjoyed it. I dropped Gurren Lagann halfway because I lost interest. Oh, and I believe you’re talking about ā€œThe Girl Who Leapt Through Timeā€. If I recall correctly, one of my favorite scenes was when the lead character’s little sister thought she was trying to ā€œcommitting suicideā€ because she ate her pudding 😃

I assure you, I am not. I am talking about Sora wo Kakeru Shojo, not Toki wo Kakeru Shojo. There aren’t any egomaniacal space-colony AIs with antimatter cannons who sound like LeLouche Lamperouge in Girl Who Leapt Through Time.

I just thought I’d come here and say that I’m watching the Black Rock Shooter OVA in case anyone’s interested. I don’t think it’s full of fan service (unless you count the outfits, even though they’re not even that risque) and the action’s pretty good. šŸ˜›

How are you finding it? I’ve read that the action was engaging but the plot left a lot to be desired of.

Speaking of Black Rock Shooter and show recommendations, I recommend that everyone here check out Fractale, Yamakan’s (Yamamoto Yutaka) latest creation. The show is currently being simulcasted (1 hour delay from JP) at Funimation. So check it out over there, or if you don’t like poor 360p quality, get it from someplace else.

From what I have seen in it’s first episode, Fractale from it’s art animation and storyboard draws inspiration from Ghibli and Gainax classics. Unsurprising since he is inspired by Miyazaki and is a big Hideaki Anno fanboy. Also this show is on Fuji Tv’s famed Noitamina block so I have high hopes for it. šŸ™‚

Oh I’ve already watched it a long time ago and I really do like it. It’s only now I got myself my own copy. šŸ™‚ But yeah, there’s still much to be desired story-wise because a lot of things remained unresolved. However, people suspect it’s because there might be a sequel in the works but that’s still speculation for now. I sincerely do hope they make one though. 😃

On the other hand, I’m still more in a mood for fantasy right now so I’m reading a manga I’ve just recently stumbled across called Bara no Maria. No visual fan service so far but the dialogue is kinda pervy. The leading lady is pretty cute though.
