Black Rock Shooter !

I’ve seen that OVA recently too, I hope they do a sequel soon.

Blessings!

Other than Trigun, what other anime did you like so we can recommend shows that fit your taste?
Off the top of my head…
I’ve enjoyed The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (1st season, and the Haruhi Chan shorts), Ergo Proxy, Samurai Champloo, Witch Hunter Robin, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Cowboy Bebop, Eden of the East, and Five Centimeters Per Second (depressing, but the art is beautiful).

Now the above titles have varying degrees of fanservice (some little to none, some a lot. If any of you have seen any of these titles, you’ll probably know what I am talking about).
I’m trying to find titles without fanservice (or at the very least, minimum).

As of recently, I’ve been streaming shows such as Chi’s Sweet Home (don’t judge me :D) and Gosick (Japanese pronunciation of Gothic) through Crunchyroll, a legal streaming site.

Didn’t know Chi’s Sweet Home had an anime.

There’s not much fanservice in most things, like Gosick and Haruhi, that are based on light novels.

Toradora is a sweet romantic comedy about a big, scary-looking nice guy and a petite, dainty, psycho girl. One day she accidentally puts a love letter to his best friend in his bag, and he discovers her best friend is the girl he likes, so they agree to help each other out.

Chrome Shelled Regios is some weird post-apocalyptic thing with walking cities and combat specialists. It’s not bad, but I’m not sure it’s out here.

Ookami-san to Shichinin no Nakamatachi (Wolf-san and her 7 Friends) is coming out here, I think, and it’s about a sort of “troubleshooting” club at a school where everyone is named after a fairy tale character. There’s a lot of risque humor, but little fanservice.

Baccano is out here, and it’s crazy good (I especially like that the flashback has a quote from the first book of the Corpus Hermeticum, when an alchemist summons a spirit), but very, very violent. As in, guys get their faces held against the tracks behind a moving train. Oddly enough though the protagonists are all such good people, you don’t even care.

Finally, the greatest of all light-novel based series: the Slayers. It’s sorta a cross between a fantasy parody and straightup fantasy—and it has some of the best characters in everything. I recommend this one wholeheartedly, without reserve; there’s no fanservice.

Which reminds me, there’s also a series called “Baka to Tesuto to Shoukanjuu” or “Idiots, Tests, and Summoned Beasts” about the worst class in this school where students can battle using their test scores and holographic avatars. I don’t know if it’s out here, and it does have fanservice: but it’s all of a guy who looks like a girl. Because the people who made it enjoy messing with their audience.

Oh boy, my siblings just love that show and they simply just adore Hideyoshi (the girly-looking girl you’re talking about). Guys like him are called Traps. Grrr, I hate traps. -.-

Not that I’m saying any of that is really sinful or wrong but it does gross out otakus like me who are, well hehe, very proud of their sexuality. (Even to the point of shameful, chauvinistic impulses via a chronic attraction to harem situations the likes of Love Hina made popular. 😊)

Inu Yasha Season 6: back to huge, steamy hunks of rancid filler.

How many eps would there be without it? Fifty or so?

Accidentally stumbled on something called Deltora Quest. Don’t hate the dub, which is unusual. It’s a faux-medieval setting with some kids and a big bearded guy on a well, quest. I would probably love it in Japanese. Doesn’t look like lots of fanservice.

Anyone seen this? Heard of it?

I have seen a trailer of it back at my aunt’s cable TV when I stayed over her place during Christmas break. I’ve been looking for sources to watch it but none of them have provided yet. I hear it’s based on a book though.

The two things I find hilarious about Hideyoshi are, 1. he doesn’t just talk like a man, he talks like a very old man—generally nobody under 60 uses “washi” as a first-person pronoun. And 2., the deliberate “Ha you thought it was a hot girl but it’s a guy bwahaha” aspect of the way they use him, is the kind of gag nothing Western could ever do, without having to attach some kind of agenda to it.

You know what, you might actually be very right about that. It is kinda impressive. >.>

Still, that don’t change my distaste for Traps. Grr. I hate traps. -.-

No more Traps! No more Traps! No more Traps! DX shot

Why oh why? Whatever have them traps done to you? 😉
Personally, I’m amused by them traps during the few times that I’ve encountered them in Anime. I actually find the Hideyoshi phenomenon funny because even though they clearly state from the start that he’s a guy, the self-professed masculine cast of Baka-to-test as well as (some) viewers still fall for his trap-service.

It’s like this. T_T

Seeing a girly face on a guy’s bod and clothes (a.k.a. teh bishie)? Fine
Seeing a girly face on a feminine guy’s bod and clothes (a.k.a. teh pseudo-shota)? Maybe.
Seeing a girly face on a girly body, in girly clothes, and tried to make fan service scene out of it?

FORGET IT!!!

MY EYES!!! THEY BUUUUURN!!! DX

I’m also going through Inuyasha right now and this is what gets to me a little bit. And I’m only on the second season or so (whatever part is currently playing on Adult Swim).

I know. I like the character and background design, settings, plot, seiyuu, you name it. That’s why I keep buying the series. Plus, I hear they FINALLY ended it. Gotta see that.

What is the title or performer of that somber flute music you hear sometimes during some Inuyasha episodes?

The flute is what interests me and it’s instrumental. It’s played during the closing song of, I think, the episodes playing on Adult Swim, nowadays.

I noticed last night that the ‘music’ is by Wada Kaoru—they mean incidental music, I’m sure, but are you talking about an opeining or closing theme? If I don’t know the name of the theme (Inu Yasha has like ten opening themes and ten closing themes) I can’t tell you.

You just need to catch the credits, which tell you who performed the theme.

I don’t watch Adult Swim, I watch the eps on DVD.

Yeah, I was talking of flute music played during some episodes. I’ll check out that name.
