Kind of. Is that the one with the martial arts guys who look like triplets? That series was hilarious (at least for the first 2 DVDs)! The one with the old guy who goes psycho is a favorite and so is the one where he tells the girl he blew up her love letter to him and the photography one where he sets up the booby traps, but the both ones, where he fights in the Bontakun outfit, where maybe my most favorite of those. I like comedies of error and that was one of the best ever!

Teen Titans, risque? I watch that all the time. Don’t see nothin’ of that nature.

Which version did you see—English or Japanese?

Because I’ve seen both and I’m not sure what it meant either. That the two guys are so evenly matched they just keep fighting forever? What’s the point?
I saw the English dub on Adult Swim. At first, I didn’t think the series had a lot of depth and art style kinda turned me off but it grew on me. Yeah…at a loss for the ending…

I started out with AS, but then I had to see it in Japanese. Can’t even recall most of the character names, but I remember ID-ing the character design team as the ones who worked on some of the Gundam series.

In spite of some appealing characters (the little girl, and some char. I think was named Straight Cougar) it was equally incomprehensible in either language.

I saw this mentioned earlier in the thread but did not find any consensus.

Where do you stand on downloading or streaming anime on the internet?

For my house, our rule is this. You can’t steal something that’s not for sale. In other words, if I can buy a subbed or dubbed version, not counting the Chinese bootlegs, then I won’t download. But if I can’t find it for sale, then I will download. (I will download the first two or even three episodes of a series before buying sometimes. Just to preview the anime.)

So, any word from the authorities here? Is downloading stealing even if you can’t buy it?

If you can find it at the library or it’s on tv, I figure I could download it. Still Bleach is online at animeseason.com (so are many others), do I figure that’s OK. Another site has Inuyasha.

I’m not sure whether ‘downloading’ is the same as ‘watching on YouTube.’

If I’m considering a purchase of a whole series with which I’m unfamiliar, I’ll watch ONE on YouTube if it’s there. (Wish I’d done that with Reservoir Chronicles!!! KYAAA!!!).

I saw one Hamtaro in Japanese and looked for it, but can’t find it for sale anywhere.

That’s how I ended up buying GaoGaiGar. Bokura no Yuusha Ou!

I really can’t see how you can steal something that’s not there in the first place. People don’t sell anime here as far as original licensed stuff goes. It’s always pirated.

But seeing as how my family wants to move to the U.S. soon, I’ll be switching to licensed dubs myself in general. They just seem to have a better quality (and aren’t jacked up by shipping fees ).

Although… I might have to make exceptions to companies I’ve decided to boycott because of their awful overall record in dubbing anime. (cough4Kidscough)

I also have to be convinced that people over there have stopped treating anime on the same level of kiddie cartoons like Spongebob.

You’re moving over here?

👋

Oh come ON! Pokemon dub! Teh best!

Spongebob isn’t all that kiddie-safe either. 😃

It’s still in the works but my parents are really planning it, it seems. :
Most of my family on my mother’s side live there now.

Okay, I’ll make some exceptions.
Can’t say I’ll buy their butchering of 5d’s though. I so know the original is not for kids. It’s not shy of showing a bit of blood and (slight spoiler) a character falling to her death. (Could be a bit more brutal though.)

Keep us posted on the move and ganbatte!

Wow, you’re moving here. Interesting

I need to check that one out! YYH, Wolf’s Rain and Princess Tutu. I ean, I’ve ONLY been obsessed with Code Geass for over a year, so…I think it’s time to try another show!
I’m the sort who pretty much obsesses over one show for FOREVER.

I largely went by Toonami and Adult Swim for my anime, though I like the light-hearted kind, not the bad-boy kind, so Fooly Cooly and Samurai Champloo didn’t grab me. If I want attitude in a show, there’s plenty of live action shows for that. The closest live action shows to the anime I like are NCIS and its sequel with their friendly teasing and slapstick…

I never watched Toonami or Adult Swim. Until I got into Code Geass, Pokemon and Cardcaptors waaay back in the day were the only encounters I had with TV anime

Voltron was, I think, the first anime we children of the '80s had, but didn’t realize it. Transformers was too, I think…

Transformers is sort of anime. I mean, from what I remember, it was animated in japan, but written and developed in America
