Thanks Eagleswings. Lost Wonderer blew my comment way out of proportions. Like I said, one needs to read Fr. Amorth’s stuff. There’s levels of being spiritually disturbed. There’s Oprah selling works by newagers on her show, possibly due to be being sexually assaulted by her Baptist relative, and then there’s pedophilia and real hate (not what conservative opinions matter-of-factly put are often made out by the Left to be) that can lead to aggressive acts against children or people or places that do what’s wrong or perceived to be wrong. They’re not possessed, but oppressed, possibly, but even the possessed can have periods of clarity. My original point was, just because you wear a witch costume for Halloween and watch the witch movies and are not affected, it doesn’t mean no one should be effected or if they were tighter with God, they wouldn’t succumb to such and such. That’s the mistake the young-adult Catholics have made, thinking all have evolved spiritually to have no need for externals, and so, for not charitably speaking up and/or trying to halt innovations and banal arts used for the atmosphere of the worship space (which should start with the priest and then the bishop, or starting with him, if the problem applies to him, like not shepherding), their family members or others’ have remained underserved. I think PJP2’s renewal through the youth experiment was a failure. As a result, I think a majority of Catholics voted for Obama. Most I know are theologically and spiritually in danger of Hell. Most of us choose to remain lazy sheep who do only what we can get away with not doing and so our idleness makes us wolves’ food. Therefore, we who read about our faith and hear about it may be safer than most, but we should be looking out for our weaker brethren in the Faith and even outside it, by not participating in their regular services, unlike funerals and allowable marriages, for one thing.

The problem is your logic employs the fallacy of correlations implying causation (a.k.a. cum hoc ergo propter hoc).

Reality defies your logic. Some choose to excel spiritually and become saints and so exteriors are not as important as it is for the majority, who needs a more protective environment with the beautiful angelic Gregorian chant and Scriptural art w/ saint statues. The exception is it seems God protects those kicked out of their churches by their enemies as well. The Chinese knew that well and established their pseudo-Catholic hierarchy of the Chinese Patriotic Church, which some got to. If your logic were tight, more than half of Catholics would’ve not have voted for Obama. It hasn’t worked because those who know better hung out with each other in their fellowship groups and let innovations and wreckovations continue, because they were so interiorly driven, they assumed it must be interiors only for everyone else and criticized those who criticized the wreckovations and innovations. Well, maybe some lip service was given on radio, but imagine what could’ve been accomplished if they had taken action instead of yapping on the radio.
This does relate to making your risque viewing habits OK for everyone because it’s not temptatious to you. We discussed the what works fir you doesn’t work for everyone and I don’t recall you objecting so much.

No offense man but I imagine any and every atheist reading your post to be laughing off their chair by reading this.

Okay back on topic, just because there are a few nuts out there who can’t tell between fantasy and reality, doesn’t mean fantasy magic is a portal to witchcraft. The truth is, a majority of us are capable of discerning what’s real and what’s not so your fears regarding the portrayal of “good witches” is unfounded.
  1. Those who fail to make such distinctions were never right in the head to begin with. Only a buffoon would think mumbling dog Latin is the same as dancing around in a magic circle during the full moon.
  2. The moral decline is in no way related simply because it employs the fallacy of correlations implying causation.

Hi!!!

Read the works of Nicolás Gomez Dávila, a great Catholic writer, he wrote about the things you are discussing here

God Bless You!!!

:):)🙂

I’m still confused about the point FM is trying to make.

I do not fear fairy tale witches, nor mythical creatures of another country. As long as the story presents a clear dividing line between good and evil, any elements can suffice.

If the ‘heroes’ use any despicable means to win, they are not heroes but anti-heroes. Neither can they be doormats to allow evil to steamroll over everyone in sight.

The trappings are not as important as the message.

The thing is Catholics today have lost devotion to Mary. That is why so many people think that sin isn’t a big deal, as if it’s just a word in a dictionary. All the media is about violence, sex, drugs, disgusting humor, and bashing those who stand for virtue.

Mary is the one who brings us to Jesus. The Rosary is a gift from God and every catholic should pray one a day. If you have hours to spend watching anime you have time for a rosary.

I actually had learned a lesson last night that I was losing touch with my devotion to her. She is the Mother of God and she rightly bears the name.

Lost Wanderer do you pray the rosary?

Superstituion increases where Christianity, especially the Catholic Church, decreases. The occult is on the rise. You have kids and women, who feel powerless, thus, going to new agey and classic pagan practitioners instead of those of religion. Those of religions that scoff at the Devil and deliverances or exorcisms have gone to occultists, who’ve made their situation obviously worse. I was reading more of Amorth (who, I believe, warns people not to watch Harry Potter), but don’t claim to be an expert on him or demonology.

I don’t feel drawn to anything like the occult after watching a Harry Potter, though feeling out of luck, but that’s because of the grace of God. Maybe, though, I get my self-empowerment fix by debating here or something like that, instead of the occult. It’s different strokes for different folks, so we can’t pretend what doesn’t harm us won’t harm many others.

BTW I could care less what the Atheists think of what I say. They’ll laugh at any of us with faith, but they’re likely subconsciously licking their wounds (some simply don’t believe, it’s true). They pretend to be rational, but most either were not raised with in a faith tradition or left due to being abused by a member of one and so are thinking upon their feelings–very intense, though, for some, subconscious, negative feelings. We should empathize, but not give them any credibility, especially in the area of faith and morals, even if they’re principled.

Only on occasion. 😛
I’m not exactly a pious type of Catholic.

By “grace of God” if you mean a functional brain. Yeah perhaps, you and a grand majority of the rest of the human race. C’mon man let’s use our heads here. How stupid would a person be to think real life occult is similar to fantasy fiction? Have you even tried drawing a comparison yourself? Believe me, it’s a sharp contrast. You don’t need to be Plato or Einstein to figure it out.

I find that you give their ability to argue from their down-to-earth perspective waaaay too little credit. Please tell me you’ve never argued with one if this is what you believe about them.

Oh, and Bleach may have finally reached awesomeness. I was restraining myself when plotkai resulted after plotkai after plotkai after oh no wait more plotkai.

Without revealing much, it went something like this:

Captains: Orly?

Aizen: Yes, rlly.

Captain Yamamoto: Orly rly?

Aizen: Ya rly.

Ichigo: Wait…orly?

Aizen: Yeah, really.

Finally, this week introduces a possible start to an explanation, something of a narrative. I practically had a nerdgasm when I saw who shows up this week.
You’re making me actually want to read Bleach manga again. I stopped reading after the villains’ power came down to hype and stopped due to God-moding on the good guys’ part.

Aizen is definitely starting to come out as a real villain, but the storyline comes and goes in fits, if that makes sense.

Now I’m definitely piqued.

I’m hooked on Monster now. It’s nearing the finale and I’m hoping that it ends unexpectedly.
EDIT: It has 74 episodes and I’m on 48. This series is gonna be expensive with only 15 episodes a box set!

That’s a broad generalization for the Atheists’ side. No one born and raised Christian just does disbelieves without some negative emotions which may or may not be validated (some are abused or raised in a Marxist or non-practicing home, but most were raised Christian, Jewish, Muslim, etc. and have the impression religion and/or God OKed that). No person goes around like a Vulcan. If they’re not like Dawkins, they’re driven by emotion and not real logic when they’re peaceful types.
I believe Fr. Amorth is concerned about Harry Potter, but maybe he doesn't use his head. People will believe what they want to believe. If some predisposed to distrusting the Church hear from the mainstream press that the Vatican didn't do such and such about some abuse case, they'll say "There they go again", and won't look for the truth. Kids and women who feel disempowered will try the occult (some kids abuse animals, but that's another story). It is not a myth that occult stuff is shown in the movies and more, I understand, are in the books. If kids want to try the spells, because they think they'll work, it will hurt their soul, even if the spells are not real (they may be real). The occult is on the rise. Some people are buying this. You guys aren't seeing the big psycho-social picture, I think, because you don't want to or your temperaments don't predispose you to seeing the irrational side of people. I don't know what it is.

I was RAISED with the ‘irrational’ side of people. No one knows it better.

I’m still trying to see your arguments.

Sorry but you’re the only one generalizing here. To say to an atheist that they are driven by emotions is not only the worst argument, it’s the most ironic way to even insult them. If you can’t even submit yourself to the logical rules of debate like they do, you won’t be doing Catholicism any favors if you ever debate them (and I seriously hope you don’t until you learn to avoid making fallacies).

This still doesn’t answer the question: How stupid do you have to be to confuse fantasy with reality? You really should compare the stuff you’ve seen in fiction and what you see in real life occult/New Age/pagan practices. They don’t produce blizzards or giant spirits any more than real exorcism produces flashes of holy light or summons holy weapons. Reality would sooner fall apart than have those things happen.

Yeah, I’m still not getting the point either. I’m seeing a lot of arguments and statements being made, but WHAT is being proven here? That stupid people take fiction way too seriously? Don’t we already know this? That mentally unstable people can take ANYTHING and twist it into something harmful, sinful? We already know that too.

PLease, FM, just tell us; WHAT are you talking about? Put aside your points and counterpoints for a minute, and just tell us. Are you trying to show how fiction is evil? Are you trying to show how fairy tale magic supposedly leads kids to the occult? Or are you just telling us more of the same stuff we already know; there are stupid people and even stupider parents in the world?

I mean, come on. If fantasy magic was so dangerous, it would be a much larger scale problem. YOU LOOK at any child who “got into the occult” through harry Potter, and I’m sure you’ll see a kid who had a lot of issues BEFORE the books. Abused kids, neglected kids, kids with behavioral and mental disorders. Normal, healthy children are NOT that dumb.

I mean, when I was 16, I started reading Tokyo Babylon, a manga about an omnyouji, who’s magic is a LOT closet to the occult than Harry Potter. I read this at one of the lowest points in my life, where I was mentally unstable nd prone to temptation. And I STILL didn’t try to go out excorcising spirits like Subaru for a power kick. Of course, Tokyo Babylon does a better of than HP of saying straight out, DON’T TRY THIS, YOU’LL GET HURT! In fact, one whole volume is spent showing what happens to normal people who mess with the occult (it ain’t pretty) but all the same…

Lady and Gentlemen, we have a problem:
cnn.com/2010/WORLD/asiapcf/03/30/japan.video.game.rape/index.html?hpt=C1

The game itself is old news, but people are going to misunderstand that all anime is like this.

Well, all anime is an excuse to draw teenage girls in school uniforms with short skirts that disobey the laws of physics, but very few people will be able to tell the difference.

But seriously, how in the non-denominational perdition do we draw that line in the sand when you can alllmost do the same thing in God of War 3, or enjoy the boobie-physics in Dante’s Inferno?
