I agree. It’s a good natured show and it has humor, action and a bit of drama. At least anime seen on Cartoon Network is far more advanced than American ones these days. We used to have good cartoons in the '80s. I liked the modern Batman ones since the '90s (except the universe traveling Batman series, which just isn’t him and including Teen Titans), King of the Hill and Megas XLR (though I didn’t approve of the perverted loser friend and the naked lady painting, the star, though gluttonous, was otherwise innocent and funny in a light-hearted way). Oh yeah, I liked the puns in the animated Beetlejuice series, though it was an '80s series.

At least DBZ has SOME redeeming value.
Yes, the Dragonball metaseries does have redeeming value…ummm…yeah…still trying to see what. Maybe the long, long, l-o-n-g resolution to conflicts? 😃

Anyway, new trailer of the Space Battleship Yamato live action movie: youtube.com/watch?v=zIAXTaxjyXU&feature=PlayList&p=48AC8E235004C9EC&playnext_from=PL&index=149

For those who haven’t seen, the first trailer of the movie: youtube.com/watch?v=TR_u5ftKKkU&feature=PlayList&p=48AC8E235004C9EC&playnext_from=PL&index=82

And it’s still to be seen if this will be released outside Japan…

If you’d ask me it’s the clear line drawn between good and evil, combined with the fact that most of the good characters aren’t always trying to down each other, and that Goku is an innocent with a pure heart, even warning the utterly evil Frieza to get out of the way and save his own life.

Hmm, an NGE fan judging “redeeming value” in an anime… :o

SK, which American cartoons are you talking about where the characters try to bring each other down?

Spongebob? The word I want to use isn’t allowed here. They all just exist to down (instead of word I can’t use) each other. The only one with a work ethic is Sponge, and he’s portrayed as a blithering moron.

Cartoon characters are either portrayed as greedy fools or idiots.

Don’t even get me started on Total Drama Whatsit or Family Guy. I don’t watch that trash but can’t avoid seeing ads for it.

I do watch and enjoy Phineas and Ferb, and also Teen Titans, and other old-fashioned Superhero shows like Spiderman.

The majority of cartoons and Disney shows are simply pagan garbage.

Despite being a Family Guy fan, I agree with you. Most of what’s out there is garbage, heck even most of the anime out there is turning out to be garbage too.

I did enjoy Cartoon Network’s “Adventure Time”, but haven’t been too keen on watching that either due to no story.

Anyone watching the Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood dubs, they’re pretty good.

In anime’s defense, at least a general majority have a solid, continuous storyline (generic they may all be). Most western cartoons I grew up watching were nothing more than gag routines. Just because you have a well-animated filmstrip of a red devil walking on his fat rear, doesn’t make the whole thing any less idiotic.

Quite true.

He Man and Transformers were gag routines?
There is bantering in anime, but it’s better natured than American bantering like Aqua Teen Hungerforce.

American shows didn’t try to understand the enemy, but they didn’t kill them and even tried to save them from death. In most anime, it seems, good guys sometimes kill, but only the wicked that won’t accept their help to reform or their offers to let them live if they stop their evil.

Goku in DBZ being a prime example of mercy toward the enemy. I’m reminded of Frodo talking to Gandalf: “Pity Bilbo didn’t kill (Gollum.)”

Gandalf: “'Twas pity stayed his hand.”

You watch family guy? Why? I used to watch that show before I became catholic. It’s pure garbage. Only show worse than family guy is south park.

On another note the creators of south park actually cencored a muhammad joke. Funny, because they spoke against censoring things out of fear of terrorism when they spoofed family guy in one episode. I heard this news some time ago.

Both shows, along with some others, need to be taken off the air anyway.

Would you be referring to a show called “Cow and Chicken” which was on Cartoon Network?

Compare it to the rest of the majority:

Scooby Doo
Yogi Bear
Huckleberry Hound
The Wacky Races
Richie Rich
Lippy the Lion and Hardy Har Har
Josie and the Pussycats
Snagglepuss
Touche Turtle and Dum Dum
Atom Ant
Dastardly and Muttley in Their Flying Machines
Top Cat
The Flintstones
The Jetsons
The Mumbly Cartoon Show

And that’s just as much as I can remember right now. Don’t even get me started on cartoons from the 90s and beyond. Frankly I can only name around six to seven anime series that could be just as bad and crazy in terms of story (and they aren’t even as mainstream to anime as the one I listed are mainstream to cartoons).

Actually, that’s what I like about anime. They’re not afraid of tackling mature issues such as death, the opposite sex, slice-of-life romance, homosexuality.

Western cartoons on the other hand are subject to censorship by whiny parents.

Yeah. I thank God for anime for taking me away from that gross childish nonsense.

They are subject to nothing but Satan’s teleprompter. As far as I can tell parents no longer care what vomit their kids are exposed to.

Bilbo killing Gollum would be like “mercy” killing. Interestingly, he only gets rebuked, because he was thinking himself, Bilbo and anyone superior to Gollum and not because it sounded like “mercy” killing.

Gollum has a horrible end. He becomes free from the Ring’s grasp but he later relapses into evil, and he was worse than before. In the end, his obsession over the ring killed him.

Gollum… you pity him, but at the same time, you feel he got what he deserved.

What adult (not particularly erotic) toys or pursuits become our ring, whether The ring (I’m not sure what on Earth would be a real life equivalent) or a lesser one (stuff, power, lust)?

That would be news to all the angry soccer moms that got uncut DBZ pulled off Cartoon Network 😦

And how many years ago was this?

And where are those diligent moms in the case of that heinous dentist show or just about any other Disney or Nik or CN cartoon?
