He’s talking about Shippou’s hair tie.

Exoflare, the Japanese don’t consider hair ties or bows masculine or feminine. They are just bows and hair ties.
Yeah, I don’t think they had elastic bands back in Japan’s feudal era. 😉

I think our nation’s forefathers and the British well, before then, had hair bows, but his voice is really high and he has the bushy tail and hair/fur?do. I guess his clothes are masculine (well, a butch lesbian might wear those clothes, including a vest with acorns on it), but his head looked pretty feminine.

Shippou is a kistune. He’s actually a fox who has transformed into human form. The tail is there to tell us what he is. I think the high voice is also a theatrical device. According to some Japanese legends, foxes are yin animals because they are nocturnal. Hence, Shippou’s character reflects this characteristic. It doesn’t mean he is girlish… he’s just not a really macho guy.

This should tell you more about these types of Obake that often appear in Anime…

Edit: I don’t know why Shippou is a kid in this series. According to Japanese legend, Foxes have to be pretty old to be able to transform. Maybe it’s just an act.

Uh huh.

Shippou’s a little boy.

Little boys don’t have ‘masculine’ voices yet.

Kenshin has a similar hair color and style. And in the Japanese original he is voiced by a female. So I guess that makes him - the strongest swordsman of the Meiji era - feminine?

He may be little boy, but he carries a big top!

I don’t know how Kenshin has the power he does, but I like his English voice, OK.

BTW someone said Kekaishi (sp?) didn’t have a good ending. Man, I hated Inuyasha’s ending! It was like the other times they shoot at Nakaku and/or Hakudoshi and they seem to come back, but this show doesn’t show what happens to them. Do they save the boy demon hunter (forgot his name) from that shard in his neck? I was very let down!

Inu Yasha? I hear that the series was resumed and does finally end. I think the anime is to resume too. And I HOPE they will resolve all that, because in spite of all its filler and annoying quirks, IY is right up there behind YYH and Kenshin.

It still looks like a bow to me. Sorry for being honest. 🤷😉

I don’t think just hair ties look “feminine” one way or the other, but Shippo’s looks like a bow. If it doesn’t, then just what is it that causes so many people to think at first that he’s a girl? (I’ve seen a lot of other people state the same thing)

'Cause he’s little and cute and voiced by a woman.

So was little Goku, but I never mistaked him for a girl. (he confused a lot of guys for girls himself early on, though) 😉

We have a resident at the nursing home, where I work, named Anna Mae. Wouldn’t that be a clever name for an anime lover and spouse to give to their daughter?

Err… you want me to be honest? It sounds too American. >_>;; Try something along the lines of Yuffie, Jam, or Viese. It sounds western but it has a strange yet cool sounding ring to it.

Try telling that to the poor child when they get picked all through school and grow up to resent you. 😛

Anyone hear that ‘Welcome to Tokyo’ song on Phineas and Ferb?

“Welcome to Tokyo
Being glad that you are here…”

FunNY.

Riiight, while the music industry gets praise for giving names like Shakira.
Shakira isn’t from the US, and I don’t know what the deal is there in Columbia where she was born. But if she was born here in America and had to start school with that name from the beginning I’d say the same thing. Anyway, you know that’s her real name and not some moniker the music industry gave her, right?

Nooope, that’s her real name all right. I looked it up. Her full name is Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll…

Wow, and I thought I had issues with my own Spanish-long name. XD

Then again, pop culture worships her.

Did you get the pun: Anna-Mae sounds like anime?

I think Japanese anime is so funny, because they are not in our context and can break our conventions. They break conventions by not necessarily direct parody of conventions, like Family Guy does. The humor after the credits on Bleach is like that. Monty Python was like that. They did some things that were just silly. Maybe they aren’t breaking their own conventions, but they can break ours. Does that sound right? I don’t fit into most groups, so I’m kind of a wild card. In this case, I am not an anime afficionado. You can get away with some things as an outsider that would get you scorned, otherwise. I only take religion religiously, but even then, I don’t fit into traddie or novus ordo groups. Like Ichigo, I’ll take on both sides on things that sound like bull. It would be nice to fit into some group, as it can be lonely, but I’m no expert on anything, so there’s no point in trying. I figure I’ll have free fun with pop culture, though being rude can be too easy, as Ichigo should know.
