Just like the lamp posts with a drunken Irishman holding on, the picture was an ethnic portrayal from another time.
I think they still call them “Paddy wagons”, don’t they? I think Irish people ought to burn down some buildings and loot some stores because of it.

Nancy Green, who became known as Aunt Jemima, was an excellent cook. In some ways, we’re erasing this woman’s contributions. The stereotypes should go. But not the name.

Nonsense. It’s no more a racist stereotype than the pictures of white “Mrs. Tucker”, or the unfavorable depiction of Li’l Abner.
It is well known that when a director wants to denote that a character is dumb, they give the person a southern accent! ‘Pass the All Fruit Polaner’!

Are you offended by that practice of presuming sothruns are dumb?

Aunt Jemima is a lot better image than this guy!
The Irish chose that depiction of themselves. Not so with Aunt Jemima.

See the difference?

They already did so. Check the Civil War draft riots when Irish folks set fire to a black orphanage, nailed the doors shut and shot at anyone who tried to escape!

See, back then, I think some companies did take some products off the market or maybe better said, changed the packaging and we didn’t really hear about it, it was some sort of committee room decision maybe.

There was a cereal, Rice Krinkles by Post, is this racist? I don’t know if it is racist, I’d say they seem to be using a “stereotype”:

At the least, I’d say it is a “sensitive” matter. This above, was probably very similar to Kellog’s Rice Crispies.

I’m sure some of you triggered folks will flag this post but if we are going to eliminate everything that is racist then I want to stop seeing all white people being portrayed as criminals in commercials for security equipment. Either the advertisers believe only white people are criminals or they’re racist against blacks because they won’t give them acting jobs or they’re too scared to cast another race as a criminal in a fake television ad.

Then maybe to honor her they could change the brand name to Nancy Green’s Pancakes!

Oh, no, I’m with you on this. I hadn’t paid attention to the security equipment ads, but I have noticed that in movies (I don’t watch enough currently popular TV to know, I just watch the news, documentaries, old sitcoms, and Jeopardy!), the villain is almost invariably… a white male.

No, you’re right, this wouldn’t be quite the thing. No harm intended, presumably meant as whimsical fun, but I don’t think this would fly nowadays.

My best friend is EBCI (Eastern Band Cherokee Indian). I asked him: “Jamie, how do you feel about sports teams using American Indians as sports mascots”? Jamie said :To be honest, I don’t care, but they could at least make the mascots look less stupid (referring to Chief Wahoo). (Tbh, no idea whether or not they still use him). He has no problem with the Redskins or Atlanta Braves. He’s also 1/4 Irish, I think he’s probably more offended by the fighting Irish. I’ll have to ask him.

Companies change their logos and mascots all the time for a variety of reasons. When I was a kid there was a cereal called Super Sugar Crisp and the mascot was Sugar Bear. Now it’s Golden Crisp and Golden Bear, I’m guessing because people realized that lots of sugar isn’t healthy for kids.
Pepsi has changed it’s logo, as have SO many brands. What’s the big deal? Why does a company changing a logo trigger people? What slippery slope are you afraid of? Would the world end if companies decided to change their packaging to something that was unlikely to be hurtful to their customers? It makes people who have been marginalized know they have been heard and seen and their history is being taken seriously. That takes NOTHING away from anyone.

Equal rights and consideration hurts no one. They don’t take some of your rights away and give them to someone else, they just give everyone the same rights and respect. Justice, like God’s love doesn’t run out. We can put limits on it, but then we had better admit it is US creating false limits.

Is kindness and respect that threatening?

It is almost as if accusations of racism are designed so that there is no right way to defend yourself, only compliance with whatever outrageous demand is an acceptable offering.

Except for individuals who stand up. We cannot let an anarchist movement made up of relatively small numbers to control us through fear. Stand up and fight back. I see none of this from nearly any if our feckless “leaders” in Congress on either side or much at the state and local level either. We must stand up. If we don’t the alternative is going to be much much worse.

Then you’ll have to put some women criminals in there, too. Face it, the default ‘Everyman’ is a white man – the burden of being in the majority.

Yes, we must keep referring to it as ‘black comedy’, ‘black looks’ and being in a ‘black humor’ no matter what Al Sharpton says. (Is your sarcasm detector working?)

I’m guessing most people who object to this kind of thing are white people who think their objections somehow make them more virtuous than someone else.
I’ve already posted links that showed evidence of black people finding the branding racist. In fact, this whole Aunt Jemima thing blew up recently because of a black woman who explained the history through a viral video on TikTok, and other black people commenting that they always knew it was racist. Certain white people do have a tendency to speak over others and claim certain things are racist but it seems like they do have a tendency to silence other groups when they’re saying certain things are actually racist as well, depending on their politics 😂
