I’ve heard so many people say the Mayans knew every future event perfectly. Yet the people who read it can’t predict the immediate future. They didn’t know the outcome of major wars, elections, Y2K or inventions in recent times. I’d like to get hold of the calendar and a good text on the Mayan language and see for myself but there’s a lot more important stuff I need to spend the rest of my life on than that.

I’ve Always wondered what would happen if they applied the ‘bible code’ to the full cannon, and not the protestant partial cannon…

My guess is that it would be something like this…

“Were sorry, the prophesy you are looking for does not exist… if you need help please contact your local priest”

In Christ

 Suppose it said, "…And starting in the 1520’s a group of heretics will lead many Christians astray … "

i just saw the show on tv yesterday about the mayans and their calendar and the date of dec. 21, 2012. it was very interesting. it showed the observatory that they had built and on that particular date there is some type of astronomical event that is supposed to happen, it always amazes me when people of ancient civilizations build structures which coincide with what is in the heavens. how accurate they were. gives me chills. it did say, i think, that the calendar doesn’t necessarily end, it can continue.
if anyone ever gets a chance to see the show, i highly recommend it. might have been on the national geographic channel. if the priests who landed with hernan cortez hadn’t burned all of the information they had found, we would have such wealth of information about the mayan culture and all that they knew. unfortunately, the catholic priests saw it as having to do with witchcraft or the devil and destroyed most of what they found. 4 books survived. i wouldn’t be so quick to make light of the mayan civilization and their achievements in astronomy. did not God create Heaven AND earth?

LOL!

LOL! They still might mistake those “heretics” for the Pope himself.

A few months back I saw this special on the History Channel call “The Bible Code”
If I were you I would not watch the History Channel. I used to like that channel because I thought it was educational and interesting. I don’t watch it anymore because they spread lies about the Catholic faith. I’m sure not all the programs they have are lies, but I can’t waist my time scrapping through the programs to see which programs have lies and which have truths, and even if some programs have truths, I’m sure only parts of it are true and some false.

😃 I stick with EWTN. and for a change of pace and something interesting for me, I love watching NatGeo for Cesar Millan on his show “The Dog Whisperer.” 😃 and also those “earth” shows on NatGeo are great, especially on HD! I also like watching those game shows that have trivia questions like “Duel.” 😃

Why do people always try to predict the end?
Doesn’t the bible tell us no one but God himself knows when it will be? So there can not be any man on earth who could know it or predict it. And not sure but doesnt the bible also say that trying to read the future is wrong as well?

It would seem to me that people would be better off trying to live the best they can for god each and every day and not worry about the future. Today could be a persons last day on earth for one reason or another and thats what we should focus on.

BPBecause it sells really well? 🤷

I’ve noticed that several people have said this it isn’t true, but no one has said why it isn’t true, or how to avoid falling for things like this in the future.

My suggestion to you is to learn about cognitive and statistical biases. People think that they are far more rational than they really are. We all make choices and leap to conclusions without really thinking them out. The Bible Code is a prime example of this.

What the Bible Coders are doing is taking text and writing it out in a grid.

SOTHEEFF
ECTISTHAT
YOUWINDU
PWITHTEXT
BOXESINSQ
UARES

I didn’t do a perfect square because I didn’t feel like spending a long time formating, but you get the idea I hope. The grids aren’t standard sizes. The grid can be 5x5, 12x12, 21x21… it doesn’t matter at all. Then they do a skip search. They pick either 4th letter, or 6th letter, or even -3rd (meaning they can go back or forwards). They can also try different searches on the same square.

This is a prime example of something called “selection bias”. The problem is that they are constantly changing the search parameters until they find something. Given enough text, and a flexible enough skip search, you will always find meaningful messages. It would be impossible not to. People have recreated this effect with Mobey ****. But you could do it with any book that is long enough. (So, the Catholic Bible would actually be easier to find “codes” in than a protestant Bible because it is longer.)

Confirmation bias is also at work. Confirmation bias is when you only look at the information that confirms your theory, and ignore the information that would cause problems for the theory. People have used the same method that the Bible Coders use to find the following phrases in Bible Code:

God is Satan.

Satan is Lord of the world.

The Bible Code isn’t real.

Unless you find it likely that God is giving people the message that He is Satan, and is lying about giving you that message, then it throws doubt on the whole theory.

Instead of telling you not to watch a certain channel I would suggest learning more about critical thinking. Start asking yourself, "In order for this to be true, what would also need to be true, and possibly more importantly, what… if true… would prove this theory false. If you can answer that second question, you can actually test out theories for yourself.

Edit: I can’t believe this site won’t let me post the name of one of the most famous books in the English language. Especially considering that the word it bleeped out is an popular nickname.

Further Edit: Sometimes people following this code will point out that the “message” is one or two letters off. I just realized that if I had added one or two more words to that box I could have made the message “Sideline is right.”

the bible code and the mayan calendar are two different things.

i believe the first post mentioned the mayan calendar, not the bible code.

The title of the thread is “The Bible Code and 2012”.

Speaking of selection bias…

The Mayan calendar has to do with Dec 2012. Which is coming up soon! Everyone better stock up on MRE’s so we can hide in our homes.

If that is not the end of the world…then…

I don’t know what is. WAIT! My phone only goes to December 25, 2088. Therefore THAT is the day of the end of the world (if 2012 isn’t)

LOL - i am not sure the mayans were predicting the end of the world, but possibly a “big event” from heavens possibly.

If this is something that was first encoded in Jewish text, wouldn’t the end of the world have happened roughly 3000 years ago?

i wish they would not have titled this thread the bible code and 2012.

2012 has nothing to do with the bilbe code. 2012 has to do with the mayan calendar and the date of december 21st. on that day the world might end, or there could be a big heavenly event.

watch for the show on the national geographic channel about the mayan civiliation and their knowledge of astronomy. very interedting.

Try typing “Bible Code + 2012” into Google and tell me that they are unrelated. The 122,000 hits suggest that more than one person has linked these two ideas together. The Bible Code apparently predicts a comet will impact the Earth in 2010 + 2012.

Actually, if you look at almost any site telling us that the end of time is fast approaching you will find the date 2012 on the site. Although that date was originally marked for significance by the Mayans, it has been glommed onto by half the conspiracy theorists and end-time predictors for last 80 years.

I spent 2 years studying pre-Columbian cultures of Central and South America in university. I think I’ll pass on the show. Those types of show generally just make me angry.

the bible code does not really interest me. i think you could probably find in there whatever you wanted to find.

i do find the mayan culture interesting. some of the shows on history channel, national geographic, discovery can be a little biased, but at the same time, they cover many interesting topics.

we only have 3 1/2 years until december 21, 2012 to see if anything does happen. so far, this century has already been a calamity. i envy the earlier civilizations that were able to appreciate the heavens more than we are able today with our busy lives and bright lights of the cities. the island peoples used astronomy for navigation.

i find the connection between their sophistication of the heavens with their architecture very fascinating.

Remember that TV programs are made to capture viewer attention so that you will stay tuned and sit through the commercials.

Really.

The Mayan “long cycle” began with a momentous date associated with one of their kings. Their mythology associated this event with re-creating the world (an event with no substantive evidence besides mythology). 2,000 years later, when the current “long cycle” ends and the next one begins, the Mayans projected that their civilization would go through another re-birth and world would be re-made again.

The Mayan civilization diminished to near-obscurity quite a long time ago. Then along came the National Enquirer, the Weekly World News, and the Star (to name a few of the better rags).

Maybe the Mayans stopped at the year 2012 because they were tired of making calendars. How long would you expect them to make calendars? Forever? They didn’t have computers to run cycles for them.

Also, I might be wrong, but they didn’t predict Europeans coming and wiping them out did they? So…that would really be “their end of the world”. Why would they care about future generations? They didn’t even know God!
