According to a Facebook post by Raymond Arroyo which was shared by EWTN, a NY court ordered the Archdiocese of New York to transfer Sheen’s body back to Peoria. This should hopefully mean his beatification is imminent.

Arroyo is the first source to break this news, but it will surely be in the larger Catholic media soon enough.

Let’s not get excited yet. It got remanded to the same judge who ruled in favor of Peoria the first time. So all she did was rule in favor of Peoria again.
Let’s see if the Archdiocese of New York is going to find some grounds to send the case up on appeal again…

How do you know how Sheen would feel, in all honesty. How do you know what he would think?

People who are up for sainthood have humility. Sheen was never the type to want a big fuss made over him in real life. Why would he want it now?

More importantly, why are you taking such umbrage at a remark that the average person reading this would completely understand?

We need someone to act like King Solomon and resolve this impasse. I suggest we move his remains to Los Angeles, an impartial location, and get on with the canonization!

Well, I believe the issue comes from New York deciding not to pursue Sheen’s cause and Peoria opening up their own cause. I’m pretty sure Cardinal Egan promised Peoria that Sheen’s remains would be transferred to Peoria if his cause progressed. The NY Archdiocese has since reneged on that promise.

Why send Sheen to LA, a place he had little-to-no connection to? It makes sense that’s his remains either be in New York or Peoria.

Not taking umbrage. I just know that Sheen self-admitted that he was challenged with the vice of vanity.

I tend to question people when they assume they they know what another person is feeling, what another person is thinking. Presumptious I guess is the word I may be looking for.

My thoughts have always been that he did want to be interred in NY as per his will, but he would also have been obedient to whatever the Holy See said. Since they said that the wishes of the family should be upheld, he would have gone “ok”

But did he really ever want to be buried in Peoria? No. Even in his autobiography he was honest on how he didn’t particularly for the area and was more of a city man.

He actually wanted to be buried in the plot he picked out for himself, which was neither in St. Patrick’s nor Peoria. The boat has sailed on that given that he will likely be canonized, which I am sure he did not anticipate, as presumptuous as you might think I am being to suggest I know what he would think.

So, the Archdiocese is not going to respect the wishes of his niece or honor Cardinal Egan’s promise to Peoria? What a joke.

The statement by the Cathedral implies that Sheen wanted to be buried in St. Patrick’s which is not the case and was already pointed out by the courts… twice.

I can’t help but think NY would act differently if there was an outcry.
The reality is, however, most don’t even know who Sheen is, never mind care.

I have a question that I really don’t know the answer to.

Considering the whole idea behind Church vs State and Freedom of religion, how beholden to the courts is a church?

You know, the whole church law vs secular law problem

Could this issue have stirred up concerns of even great value and implication for the church moving forward?

That’s a good question, and one that I don’t entirely know the answer to.

Peoria is better. When he rises from the dead he should at least be able to walk a block or two without encountering horrible scandal.

🤔 Although Sheen was such a champion of fighting such scandals, his walk might first go to the Peoria Travel Bureau to book tickets back to New York.

Side effect: Perhaps some relics of his could be left at St. Patrick’s to call his life to mind to the many New York visitors. ✝️
