My suggestion would be to report the posts you find offensive, and let the moderators handle it.

ETA: Just click the little triangle in the corner of the post. 😉

Thankyou for the suggestion but I never said I was offended, if that was the TONE of my conversation here then you must have misread it, as tone cannot be judged by what we write. It saddens me because so many of the posters have been such great at showing mormonism for what it is, but less abrasively

possibly, but he /she didn’t respond so that was where it was left as far as i was concerned, and I don’t think my tone was aggressive
 
on the subject of being offended, I am not, but lds may well be, is that the object here? If so what might it achieve?

Hi lynnettejane,

Many of us here are former LDS who have come home to the Catholic faith. Most of us former LDS served missions and were married in the temple, held leadership callings etc., so we know whereof we speak. I think we ex-Mormons have earned the right to discuss the Book of Mormon, even amongst ourselves.

No meanness intended. But it is not mean to challenge false beliefs. The bible tells us to do so.

And remember, the LDS Church is built upon bashing other religions. The first missionary discussion teaches that all churches other than the Mormon church are “an abomination” and those who profess the creeds of those churches are “corrupt”.

Early Mormon leaders taught that anyone who received an ordinance at the hands of a Christian minister would “go down to hell”. The Book of Mormon teaches that anyone who dies believing in infant baptism will go straight to hell.

So I don’t think the Mormons have any right to complain about us challenging their beliefs.

Then don’t read things that make you said. The guy made a bold statement so he was challenged. He could not support his statement so some folks made jokes.

Thank you so much. Ive read every book and loved everyone. I was lucky enough to come into it when they were almost all written so I read them all. Then read them all again. I love them, they are brilliant

Not trying to be bossy or rude. It is kinda like “eating ice cream makes me sick” So the doc says “then stop eating ice cream”.

I was just trying to be nice. If you complain about something you read that upsets you, makes you sad, or bothers you, then it is best not to read it.

Sorry if that offended you. Was not my intent. But anytime someone keeps complaining about something, I suggest they stop doing whatever they are complaining about.

Again…I thought Mormons didn’t believe in hell but these stages of the next life.
 
There is wisdom in challenging false and distorted belief systems, as long as it is done in charity.

Even Jesus, when talking with the Samaritain woman at the well challenged her. So He is our example. But it does need to be done in love

John 4:21, 22

Jesus said to her, “Believe me, woman, the hour is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem.

Yes…but He was less charitable with the money changers…so if He is our example…

I admit I wouldnt equate the LDS people, who are sincere in their beliefs, with the money changers.

Don’t they believe in the 3 levels of heaven (Celestial, Terrestrial, Telestial) and “outer darkness”.

Outer darkness being their version of hell.

Or have I misunderstood some of their teachings. (not hard to do, as fluid as it is)
