Why would one stay when their church and its teachings are false? Ill never get itYou will never get a response when they know you have too much fact for them to fool
To keep their families together. Why would one stay when their church and its teachings are false? Ill never get it![]()
Whos passing judgement? I was asking a questionTo keep their families together.
For some people to leave, their marriages are destroyed, they become estranged from their children, their siblings, their parents etcā¦
Leaving Mormonism is no easy feat if your family is Mormon.
Unless you lived it, and fully entrenched in it, be careful about passing judgement on those who are caught in itā¦
There is so much pain, so much destruction to many families.
My apologies. Itās just when you said āIāll never get itā that I felt it prudent to express caution.Whos passing judgement? I was asking a question![]()
If there is a cult aspect to the LDS Church I think this is it. The external preassure brought to bear in order to keep the flock intact is incredibly powerful. How many of us desire to have our lives torn apart, especially with family members? I salute all of you ex-Mormons for your courage. My apologies. Itās just when you said āIāll never get itā that I felt it prudent to express caution.
Leaving Mormonism is a horrific, very painful and painfilled experience for many. Itās one of the reason people DO stay LDS, although they dont believe in it. So their families wonāt be ripped to shreds.
Many former Mormons live lives of a great deal of anger, resentment, bitterness, in their post-Mormon years because of the destruction they experience. And many just chose to quietly go along, even though they know itās false, to protect their families from that very destruction.
Agreed. If there is a cult aspect to the LDS Church I think this is it. The external preassure brought to bear in order to keep the flock intact is incredibly powerful.
Better late than never, eh? I just saw this.McMullen stated on another thread that the main reasonā¦where he ādraws the lineā at not being Catholic is the Book of Mormon. That has me puzzled. So, I want to ask him some questions. I doubt he will respond, but I hope he does.
We can start with these questions. If the Book of Mormon is THE SOLID THING that keeps you LDS, then I am certain you have answers to these questions.
- Where, specifically, did the Book of Mormon take place?
- Where, specifically, is Zerehemla?
- Where, specifically, is Bountiful?
- Does it bother you that the Book of Mormon was changed to reflect the knowledge that blacks were not becoming white?
- How do you explain a young man in 1830s America translating plates in Reformed Egyptian and his translations are almost word for word the same as English Scholars in the 1600s translating the Bible from Greek and Hebrew?
- How do you explain the several similarities between the Book of Mormon and A View of the Hebrewsā¦a book written by man who was a preacher at Cowderyās Church and a book that Joseph read?
I appreciate your time.
you spent more time on your name than you did answering the questions.Better late than never, eh? I just saw this.
First off, I donāt know how you can spell my name wrong since youāve only seen it in print. Itās rmcmullan, with an āaā, not an āeā.
Thanks for your interest in the Book of Mormon. Other than asking me, how have you tried to research your questions on the BoM?
When you answer the questions you will be late; at this point you are still never.Better late than never, eh? I just saw this.

I was just messing with you. I know you donāt really want to know.you spent more time on your name than you did answering the questions.
Go figure
Really? That is how you are going to answer this:I was just messing with you. I know you donāt really want to know.
I find your refusal to answer simply amazing. No wonder people get frustrated.Originally Posted by TexanKnight

St. Peter our first Pope asked us to be ready to defend our faith. The great beauty of Catholicism is that it is so easy do. Faith and Reason is a wonderful gift the Catholic Church has for us. Iāve never been at a loss to defend my Church.I was just messing with you. I know you donāt really want to know.
nice dodge.I was just messing with you. I know you donāt really want to know.
If it ever lead anywhere, it might be worth somebodyās discussion. If the Pope spent all his time with hard hearted and stiff necked people, heād be wasting his time too. If you want honest, you can just say, āI donāt really care about your answer, I just need some ammunition to fire at you withānice dodge.
I didnāt figure you had the answers. I just thought you would be more honest about it and not dodge like this.
Be Blessed
There is no truth to it. They rely on God/Jesus being a liar. Thats the only way their religion will work. And I agree with āI dont knowā but its not in their vocabulary.Itās kind of the point of the board to discuss topics like these. Obviously we donāt all agree as to what truth Mormonism contains but I, for one, who be interested to know how a Mormon might respond to these questions. I lurk on nearly all the Mormon conversations because I am interested in the subject. I also think āI donāt knowā is perfectly acceptable response.
